Honestly this is the biggest problem for me. They say that the reason not all the Pokemon are going to be in the game is because of animations. But so far, outside of the brand new Pokemon, all use older animations.
That really is the thing here. Like... i still need a good explanation as to why these pokemon arent going to be in the game. Game freak said they were cutting Pokemon to focus on animations but the animations we see are clearly re used. I've played all the games, the newer ones out of loyalty to the series. I have found the newest games (Gen 7 and onwards the most) extremely disappointing in terms of quality and lacking gameplay. While I don't enjoy how easy it was to get lost in the very first games (like Gen 1-3) it's now grabbing you by the hand, attaching a GPS, and still leading you exactly where you have to go. And it limits exploration (especially in Gen 7 iirc) making it unenjoyable.
I am a casual player and I only have played the old games (Generation 1-4). When I watch poketubers play the 3d generations, I would become very weirded out by the games, I don't know why until I stumbled upon DistantKingdom and it finally realized that the older generations who are in pixels looks more alive than the 3d games.
I legit had a friend who defended sword and shield with a passion and stated that past pokemon game animations werent that great either and the animation quality didn't detract from his enjoyment no meke it a bad game... I didn't even know the game was bad at this point just simply cause I didn't play it. He was arguing against points I didn't even make yet, fervently defending the game for like 30 minutes hardly letting anyone else speak, 2 others in the call complaining about the quality of the game as they bought and played it and we're mixed on it... Anyways dude actually insulted past titles by saying sword and shield had better animations that "didn't bother me"... Pokemon stadium had better animations than this...

Even if they’re different animations (they aren’t) and they just look really similar, gamefreak is still in the wrong for lying to us. People like to find little reasons here and there, or whatever but the inherit problem is that gamefreak promised us something and never delivered.

The whole point is game freak lied. They said no National dex due to good animation aka a lie. No one complaining about bad animation just how they lied too iur face. Charging 60$ for something with less content then a 40$ games with more content on a hand held system with less specs. The fact someone would be so blinded means they accept anything thats pokemon even if it was trash. Note that means it would hurt the games in the long run due to people accepting little for more, allows them to keep doing it and the game will stagnate.
Only just started watching these videos since I really wanted to stay away from this bullcrap fighting that's happening. But I wanted to bring up the animations from human characters. I feel like GF was looking to improve those moreso than the animations from Pokemon since they had to take so much time, effort, and (let's be honest, this is the big one here) money to make the 3-D models. They look samey and bland, but it's a lot they sunk into it. From a business perspective, I get why they've used them for nearly a decade (oh God it's been a decade). But then you look at the places where they haven't sunk a lot of time into: humans. Yes there are the exact same generic animations, but look at some of the ones for the new gym leaders or Olenna. Bea looks like she's ready to fight on her own, even though her Mon's really dont. And Nessa's introduction where she kisses to the crowd, nice. The Pokemon animations aren't what improved, the human characters were. I just dont think GF thought about why we play these games so much...ya know...the name of the game. GF didn't lie, they gave us improvements, but admittedly they were very misguided in where they put their effort in improvement

@@zenith2876 No, I'm totally in the same boat. I wish they'd go for a little more for the extra $20. Which they might, we still haven't seen the *entirety* of the game. It might have features, new or returning, which blow our minds. And honestly the National Dex cut was probably going to happen at some point, and around the 1000 pokemon mark was probably a decent enough start for it. It'll suck from here on out because every game will come with the worry of if your favorite Pokemon will be in this game, but it had to happen at some point.

Not only is that awfully worded. It's fucking wrong. Put the 3DS model and switch model side by side and swap the textures with each other. See how they swap perfectly. See how their polygon counts are very similar if not the same. So we can conclude they are the same model. And thus have proven what they are. Twitter is stupid.
And recreate models to look the exact same, which would consume more time than remaking from scratch, unless Gamefreak used the 3DS models as a base similar to what Sakurai and his team did for the old characters for Smash Ultimate

Well people had a stupid criticism of Sun and Moon about it being a "legngthy tutorial" despite your character in the game never traveling around with Pokemon before, but at least they weren't TRYING to hate on the games like these Animation Gripers. Reused animations are fine if the animations are of nice quality. The animations in Refresh/Amie are very nice animations while some of the battle animations are not so nice.
That's because this is Nintendo vs Game Freak. Nintendo polishes the hell outta their games because the games are the most important source of money for the company. Pokemon, on the other hand, makes the most money via merch sales, and then the games, and then the trading card game, and then the anime and movies. The games don't get much love because the focus is on showing the Pokemon in the game, giving them personality and making people fall in love with them in the anime/movies, and making people eager to get them in the TCG and buy products based on them in the form of plushies, key chains, figures, stationary products, and even clothing lines. The games could disappear and as long as the anime stayed good (which it actually isn't too bad right now), the company still makes millions from merch.

I don't mind the reusing of animations. Heck, some of those animations are really cute. When they claim to be removing core features for higher quality animations, when they are so clearly copypasting animations when they're not just wiggling the model like a figurine, THEN I have an issue.

I lost so much respect for Joe Merrick. How could these people not see the bigger picture on these reused animations. GameFreak has specifically stated that the dex cut was to make the Pokemon "more expressive." All we're seeing is reused animations. But hey enjoy your shallow game with half the dex and no post game for $20 more.
It is for a number of reasons. He has a site to run, he at times get access to the game and inside info, and his coin: all depend on the game Pokémon game doing good. (Not sure if that is all)

i think many people are actually aware that what youre saying is true, but are in denial about their disappointment. they would actually rather attack a confrontation of the truth than accept that gamefreak is lying about adding emotion to old pokemon and needing to cut others because of it. im not buying swsh, even as a huge pokemon fan, cause it doesnt do what every other nintendo franchise that got brought to switch does. by this i mean, the formula is identical, yet there is no improvement. breath of the wild, mario odyssey, smash bros ultimate, yoshi's crafted world, fire emblem 3H, honestly even lets go pikachu/eevee-all of these games either made drastic changes to what we expect from the franchise, or improved upon the norm so solidly that there's no denying the fun of playing the game. but here's SwSh, and it's advertisements are basically identical to what they said about XY. "new pokemon, play with pokemon outside of battle, prettier graphics." oh, but as a bonus, some of your old pokemon are gone now. thanks for making these videos, you're the best
It's not just that. They actively rip features from previous games out. (Z-Moves, Mega Evolutions, Contests, Difficulty settings from B&W, Battle Frontier, Pokémon following you etc.) While games like Fire Emblem only improve and add new stuff and make the experience better... And more expansive and greater. Pokémon Sword and Shield on the other hand though? The only features that I've noticed that they've added are pop-ups, slow framerates and the shrunk Pokémon in size (Tyranatar.)
Some people actually don't care. It's why battle simulators like Showdown are so popular. People like me want to enjoy more than battling, so we play the games in its entirety. Now, that doesn't mean I think battles should be forgotten about entirely, I actually wish the graphics and animations were better. I play with animations off because what we've had for years now is boring and uninspired to look at. But most of the people who are complaining about DK are the same people who only play simulators, or play animations off. As for SwSh itself, I actually like the formulaic design. I'm fine with small addons, like the ability to change the layout of the Safari Zone, or the ability to cook food. But the rest I want the same. Call me what you will, but I hated Lets Go. It wasn't fun to play, and only the dress up part of the game was actually enjoyable. But I also want improvements for this franchise. It's the first time a main game is on consoles, it should be the best it can be. Not for the fans, companies don't care about us. But because first impressions matter. First impressions will determine how the series goes forwards in a new era. These first impressions are less than tolerable.

The Gameplay, Story, Music, setting is refreshing, very much still truthful to the series and even had sooo much content... Basically 3 50 hour long Stories. Head tracking has been in the games since forever when you feed your pokemon stuff and their head follows the stylus presses, its like these idiots never played a pokemon game in the first place yet defend it so adamantly
If GameFreak said they couldn't include the National Dex because they need to make their deadline, that the deadline can't be changed because of too many products/merchandise/shows hinge on the release of the new game and cannot wait, I would have been unhappy, but it's understandable. What gets me is what they actually said: to provide "high-quality animations" and to make the existing Pokemon "more expressive." So, porting animations and models from previous titles is considered "high-quality" now? It's literally just the same exact models, just updating them with different textures. That's what my problem is. Not the fact that the National Dex is gone. It's because they lied.
Not to mention they already made most of the Pokémon models and animations for XY and had no issues adding in non-Kalos Pokémon, even if it did take months for Bank to come out.
Even then you could argue against it because we're not in the dark ages anymore, nowadays games receive patches, updates, and DLC. It would suck for them to lock the National Dex behind DLC, but I think many people would prefer that over so many Pokemon being cut.

Take Mario Party 4 for example, the board was just a simple platform hovering over a backdrop, as opposed to the previous 3 Mario Party games, where the board was integrated into the map itself. Was this done out of pure laziness, I don’t think so. I believe, (and again, I could be missing something obvious) that because the game was forced by Nintendo to come out in November for max profits, so they had to cut corners on a lot of things. Still not great, obviously, just my thoughts of the matter.

Honestly I wouldn't care if they're using the same animations, but ONLY if they're going to make NEW animations, that's where I can consider that they're lazy. And that excuse of cutting the national dex for improving the animations and quality is really bullsh*t. I don't see any improvement, apart from the new animations from the Dynamax. I wouldn't consider Pokemon Sword and Shield as bad games, but that doesn't mean those games are going to be considered mediocre, wasted potential and other similar things.
Dynamax pokemon use near enough the same animations, the animations are simply slowed down to give the illusion of weight, so they are essentially the same.

The thing is... Whats so hard about importing the other Pokémon? That's 10 minutes worth of work if that.. Just reuse the stats and you're done And then i hear people say shit like "but it's not that easy to import Models!" well yes it is... You can see that in the game and models are done separately in a Model Software like Blender... Animations are done the same way xD "but what if the engine doesn't work with those programs" then Gamefreak is fucking dumb! Cause they make their engines themselves Xd

I may be neutral but the more I see those tweets, the more I'm convinced how ridiculous these um... anti dexers are. I mean there are some good things about Sword and Shield BUT I'm still concerned about these models and I've been saying this since this whole controversy started. All these reused animations for each and every (old) Pokemon and I expect GameFreak to do better than that. Also I really appreciate the evidence you gave us on Twitter and in this video :)

The tilting head thing was in the 3DS games, too. Pokémon looked at where you touched on the touch screen, or if you weren't, looked at where the 3DS thought you were based on information from the internal camera.

I'm honestly sick and tired of people assuming we are complaining about them reusing animations and models. We are not! We are complaining because even though they are reusing models and animations, they claim they cannot continue to support all of the Pokemon despite it being proven that the 3DS models are more than capable of being elevated to work on the Nintendo Switch. Hell, they could even keep all the sub-par animations of they wanted to, if it means I get the entire roster complete with forms, megas, and z-moves, I'd be fine with them reusing assets.
Pokemon Ultra Moon is 3.45 GiB, which is hilarious, considering its on worse hardware and has less space. Sw Sh has cut SO many corners it's getting bizzare. Why are they so lazy?

Here's the thing I don't understand: why do people defend this crap? How can you get people who are like, "No no, I DON'T want all of the Pokemon in the games, and I want the same quality of animations that we had on a handheld console with less than half of the power that the current console has, and you should too." Imagine you're in a restaurant and you order a steak. The steak is alright, not a lot of flavor, but it's relatively inexpensive. Next week you decide to go back to that restaurant again. The waiter says, "Oh, we've got an improved version of that steak with higher quality", and you're like "Yeah, I'll have that." They bring out the same steak, but the portion size is cut in half, it has the same sub-par flavor, and they've put it on a fancy new plate. They've also added another 1/3rd of the price to it. You decide that this is unacceptable, and make a complaint to the waiter about it. He says "Well they cut down the portion size to improve the flavor", and you tell him, "Nah mate, you just cut it in half and put it on a new plate." Suddenly, the family in the next table over tells you to "stop complaining and enjoy it", and to "stop acting so privileged".
It's kind of creepy the leagues people go to defend this game. The people criticizing and the BBND movement literally only want a better game. But then defenders go as far to say "don't bring back the national dex we don't deserve it!!" That's fucking crazy. Having the ND in the game makes everyone happy and satisfies many customers. So why are you shilling so hard to the point where you think you and other customers don't deserve to be happy??
People simply believe playing as the "positivity police" means they're in the right, or something. I mean, they just interpret any complaints or criticism towards the game as an inherent bad thing, bc it's negative and obviously anyone negative on the internet is just a hater or the bad guy, and then they desperately try to silence you. You know, bc their the "true fans" who enjoy Pokemon no matter what and we're just the nitpicky assholes being toxic. (Ofc, don't get me wrong, both sides of the coin has toxicity but that's not the point.) These people practically fish for it, and try to stomp on it. Example being the thread in this video, people really wanted to believe the tweet about him stating a fact about the animation reuse was implying that it was a bad thing, when he was just- you know, putting a fact out there, nothing more. Point is, there's nothing wrong with striving for more when it can be more, and actually having standards instead of just accepting whatever's on your plate.
The fact that this video needed to be made at all tells you everything you need to know about how INCREDIBLY stupid and braindead people on Twitter and the internet are in general. Those people spamming you on Twitter really makes me sick.

Take cod modern warfare for example, the game has/had no minimap but it is a core feature of the game (like pokemon in pokemon games) and the community complained about it with polls getting around 90% to add the minimap Infinity ward (the dev) now changed it and added the minimap Complaining changed the game for the better and this is why videos like this exist
My god even just watching this you can see how low Pokémon has gotten as a franchise. How can the Stadium games, Colosseum, Gale of Darkness, and PBR, games that were made decades ago, have more effort than a Pokémon game in 2019? This is just embarrassing. @@TheGoldenDunsparce actually the pokemon games on gamecube and wii (pbr) were from GS not gamefreak which are the same people that brought more not well known games on the 3ds like the denpamen series (4th game being japan exclusive lame. ) they at least cared about the pokemon games as a whole and even went above and beyond with the pokemon models and animations and even their icons for the pokemon were different depending on their shiny and non shiny forms. Jirachi for example: normal jirachi is awake in the icon for it in pokemon Colosseum and gale of darkness when in battle or so when shiny jirachi is asleep and wrapped up in its wings like in the anime which is a nice touch
One of my friends brought this topic up recently; initially subtly hostile that I disliked this game enough to boycott it. He admitted to not knowing what the problems were, due to being outside the social circles. I explained the lack of pokemon, and the lie about "high quality animations" and instantly he did a 180 and was disappointed with TPC and GF. Some people are just more level-headed, while others sniff out people to be mad about.

Reuse of animations are a big deal only because it was used as an excuse for cutting content.
This is the part I think most folks are missing, Kingdom even stated this at the end of this video. Game freak said they were cutting Pokemon to focus on animations but the animations we see are clearly re used. Even if dynamaxing takes a toll on SwSh we're supposed to believe in 2019 a multibillion dollar company can't optimize their own game!?

I've played all the games, the newer ones out of loyalty to the series. I have found the newest games (Gen 7 and onwards the most) extremely disappointing in terms of quality and lacking gameplay. While I don't enjoy how easy it was to get lost in the very first games (like Gen 1-3) it's now grabbing you by the hand, attaching a GPS, and still leading you exactly where you have to go. And it limits exploration (especially in Gen 7 iirc) making it unenjoyable.
I am a casual player and I only have played the old games (Generation 1-4). When I watch poketubers play the 3d generations, I would become very weirded out by the games, I don't know why until I stumbled upon DistantKingdom and it finally realized that the older generations who are in pixels looks more alive than the 3d games.
I legit had a friend who defended sword and shield with a passion and stated that past pokemon game animations werent that great either and the animation quality didn't detract from his enjoyment no meke it a bad game...
I didn't even know the game was bad at this point just simply cause I didn't play it. He was arguing against points I didn't even make yet, fervently defending the game for like 30 minutes hardly letting anyone else speak, 2 others in the call complaining about the quality of the game as they bought and played it and we're mixed on it...

The whole point is game freak lied. They said no National dex due to good animation aka a lie. No one complaining about bad animation just how they lied too iur face. Charging 60$ for something with less content then a 40$ games with more content on a hand held system with less specs. The fact someone would be so blinded means they accept anything thats pokemon even if it was trash. Note that means it would hurt the games in the long run due to people accepting little for more, allows them to keep doing it and the game will stagnate.
Only just started watching these videos since I really wanted to stay away from this bullcrap fighting that's happening. But I wanted to bring up the animations from human characters. I feel like GF was looking to improve those moreso than the animations from Pokemon since they had to take so much time, effort, and (let's be honest, this is the big one here) money to make the 3-D models. They look samey and bland, but it's a lot they sunk into it. From a business perspective, I get why they've used them for nearly a decade (oh God it's been a decade).
But then you look at the places where they haven't sunk a lot of time into: humans. Yes there are the exact same generic animations, but look at some of the ones for the new gym leaders or Olenna. Bea looks like she's ready to fight on her own, even though her Mon's really dont. And Nessa's introduction where she kisses to the crowd, nice.
The Pokemon animations aren't what improved, the human characters were. I just dont think GF thought about why we play these games so much...ya know...the name of the game.
GF didn't lie, they gave us improvements, but admittedly they were very misguided in where they put their effort in improvement

@@zenith2876 No, I'm totally in the same boat. I wish they'd go for a little more for the extra $20. Which they might, we still haven't seen the *entirety* of the game. It might have features, new or returning, which blow our minds. And honestly the National Dex cut was probably going to happen at some point, and around the 1000 pokemon mark was probably a decent enough start for it. It'll suck from here on out because every game will come with the worry of if your favorite Pokemon will be in this game, but it had to happen at some point.

Not only is that awfully worded. It's fucking wrong. Put the 3DS model and switch model side by side and swap the textures with each other. See how they swap perfectly. See how their polygon counts are very similar if not the same.
So we can conclude they are the same model. And thus have proven what they are.

Reused animations are fine if the animations are of nice quality. The animations in Refresh/Amie are very nice animations while some of the battle animations are not so nice.
After watching Luigi's Mansion 3 gameplay, Sword and Shield looks like an unfinished tech demo.
That's because this is Nintendo vs Game Freak. Nintendo polishes the hell outta their games because the games are the most important source of money for the company. Pokemon, on the other hand, makes the most money via merch sales, and then the games, and then the trading card game, and then the anime and movies. The games don't get much love because the focus is on showing the Pokemon in the game, giving them personality and making people fall in love with them in the anime/movies, and making people eager to get them in the TCG and buy products based on them in the form of plushies, key chains, figures, stationary products, and even clothing lines. The games could disappear and as long as the anime stayed good (which it actually isn't too bad right now), the company still makes millions from merch.

I lost so much respect for Joe Merrick. How could these people not see the bigger picture on these reused animations. GameFreak has specifically stated that the dex cut was to make the Pokemon "more expressive." All we're seeing is reused animations. But hey enjoy your shallow game with half the dex and no post game for $20 more.

(Z-Moves, Mega Evolutions, Contests, Difficulty settings from B&W, Battle Frontier, Pokémon following you etc.)
While games like Fire Emblem only improve and add new stuff and make the experience better... And more expansive and greater.
Pokémon Sword and Shield on the other hand though? The only features that I've noticed that they've added are pop-ups, slow framerates and the shrunk Pokémon in size (Tyranatar.)
Some people actually don't care. It's why battle simulators like Showdown are so popular. People like me want to enjoy more than battling, so we play the games in its entirety. Now, that doesn't mean I think battles should be forgotten about entirely, I actually wish the graphics and animations were better. I play with animations off because what we've had for years now is boring and uninspired to look at. But most of the people who are complaining about DK are the same people who only play simulators, or play animations off.
As for SwSh itself, I actually like the formulaic design. I'm fine with small addons, like the ability to change the layout of the Safari Zone, or the ability to cook food. But the rest I want the same. Call me what you will, but I hated Lets Go. It wasn't fun to play, and only the dress up part of the game was actually enjoyable. But I also want improvements for this franchise. It's the first time a main game is on consoles, it should be the best it can be. Not for the fans, companies don't care about us. But because first impressions matter. First impressions will determine how the series goes forwards in a new era. These first impressions are less than tolerable.

Head tracking has been in the games since forever when you feed your pokemon stuff and their head follows the stylus presses, its like these idiots never played a pokemon game in the first place yet defend it so adamantly
the whole idea of bias is that people stick to opinions and thought so aggressively, that they are ignoring and going against logical thinking.
If GameFreak said they couldn't include the National Dex because they need to make their deadline, that the deadline can't be changed because of too many products/merchandise/shows hinge on the release of the new game and cannot wait, I would have been unhappy, but it's understandable. What gets me is what they actually said: to provide "high-quality animations" and to make the existing Pokemon "more expressive." So, porting animations and models from previous titles is considered "high-quality" now? It's literally just the same exact models, just updating them with different textures.
That's what my problem is. Not the fact that the National Dex is gone. It's because they lied.
Not to mention they already made most of the Pokémon models and animations for XY and had no issues adding in non-Kalos Pokémon, even if it did take months for Bank to come out.
Even then you could argue against it because we're not in the dark ages anymore, nowadays games receive patches, updates, and DLC. It would suck for them to lock the National Dex behind DLC, but I think many people would prefer that over so many Pokemon being cut.

Was this done out of pure laziness, I don’t think so. I believe, (and again, I could be missing something obvious) that because the game was forced by Nintendo to come out in November for max profits, so they had to cut corners on a lot of things. I'm honestly sick and tired of people assuming we are complaining about them reusing animations and models. We are not! We are complaining because even though they are reusing models and animations, they claim they cannot continue to support all of the Pokemon despite it being proven that the 3DS models are more than capable of being elevated to work on the Nintendo Switch.
Hell, they could even keep all the sub-par animations of they wanted to, if it means I get the entire roster complete with forms, megas, and z-moves, I'd be fine with them reusing assets.
I'm impressed that 32GB cart can't fit more than 800+ pokemon like 8GB cart did before on console that is less powerful than a wii or a gamecube.

How can you get people who are like, "No no, I DON'T want all of the Pokemon in the games, and I want the same quality of animations that we had on a handheld console with less than half of the power that the current console has, and you should too."

I mean, they just interpret any complaints or criticism towards the game as an inherent bad thing, bc it's negative and obviously anyone negative on the internet is just a hater or the bad guy, and then they desperately try to silence you.
You know, bc their the "true fans" who enjoy Pokemon no matter what and we're just the nitpicky assholes being toxic. (Ofc, don't get me wrong, both sides of the coin has toxicity but that's not the point.)
These people practically fish for it, and try to stomp on it. Example being the thread in this video, people really wanted to believe the tweet about him stating a fact about the animation reuse was implying that it was a bad thing, when he was just- you know, putting a fact out there, nothing more.
Point is, there's nothing wrong with striving for more when it can be more, and actually having standards instead of just accepting whatever's on your plate.

Take cod modern warfare for example, the game has/had no minimap but it is a core feature of the game (like pokemon in pokemon games) and the community complained about it with polls getting around 90% to add the minimap
Infinity ward (the dev) now changed it and added the minimap
Complaining changed the game for the better and this is why videos like this exist
My god even just watching this you can see how low Pokémon has gotten as a franchise. How can the Stadium games, Colosseum, Gale of Darkness, and PBR, games that were made decades ago, have more effort than a Pokémon game in 2019? This is just embarrassing.
Well, my money will certainly be going to Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition instead of Pokémon Sword and Shield.
I don't think most of those games were even made by Game Freak, just published by them or whatever.
@@TheGoldenDunsparce actually the pokemon games on gamecube and wii (pbr) were from GS not gamefreak which are the same people that brought more not well known games on the 3ds like the denpamen series (4th game being japan exclusive lame. ) they at least cared about the pokemon games as a whole and even went above and beyond with the pokemon models and animations and even their icons for the pokemon were different depending on their shiny and non shiny forms. Jirachi for example: normal jirachi is awake in the icon for it in pokemon Colosseum and gale of darkness when in battle or so when shiny jirachi is asleep and wrapped up in its wings like in the anime which is a nice touch

One of my friends brought this topic up recently; initially subtly hostile that I disliked this game enough to boycott it. He admitted to not knowing what the problems were, due to being outside the social circles.
I explained the lack of pokemon, and the lie about "high quality animations" and instantly he did a 180 and was disappointed with TPC and GF.
Some people are just more level-headed, while others sniff out people to be mad about.
