Morning! Right idea with the paracord, but there is a better way to anchor the coops. We have done this here in Florida and it works! You want to tie your cord at the base of the anchor, and then cross it over to the opposite side, making an X across the coop. So far, outs has made it though 2 hurricanes, and we only got 1 tear in the plastic and that was from a tree branch, not the wind. It's actually neat and yikes to watch the wind lift up the plastic, but the X holds it in place during the gusts. Ours is much bigger, so we have 3-X's across ours.
I copied his plan for the hoop coop some time back and anchored it with 4 T-posts. Using heavy duty cord, I tied it down across both ends adding the X pattern on top. Using the A(left) and B(right) for the front posts then C(l) and D(r) for the back posts, the tying pattern is A-B-C-D-A. So far, no problems, even though we have high winds often. 😊
Consider using eye bolts at the base next to post. Attach the two with heavy gauge wire. The goal is to restrict all movement. Paracord has enough elasticity that it could allow for more potential energy effects.
Instead of using that expensive tape on your folded over tarp cover, use spring clothespins or chip clips. If you dot them along the edge, they won’t get hung up when you pull the tarp over the wire.
So sorry you all had to experience that storm. We had a horrible hail storm in April and we are just now about to get our home put back together. Thankful you all and the animals were not hurt. Sending prayers. 🙏
LazyKFarmstead the insane "weather" the last several years is done by the military/governments around the world... the patents for for all those devices have been filed decades ago and have been used since then. There is no natural "weather" anymore...
Happy that none of the animals or birds were injured when their homes got destroyed. At least you were able to salvage some of the materials. I know you are going to be sad to see Tex move on to greener pastures, he has left you with some lovely calves. I hope his new owners realize what a prize he is. Thanks for sharing, have a Blessed day.
I really appreciate how careful you guys are with inbreeding your livestock. I'm of the opinion that the way you are handing things is the proper way to keep blood lines strong and to eliminate genetic issues that can and do effect the overall product.
Helpful hint about your post-pounder - Put the pounder on the post BEFORE you stand the t-post upright. You just place the post where you want it, then push the contraption and post together up till it is straight. It may save your shoulders! It is be a great workout while you are young, but it will come back to haunt you!
I so love seeing the cows. Tex is such a beautiful healthy looking bull. I am so glad that none of the livestock were injured during the storm. God Bless!!
Kevin, may I suggest a sandbox for the quail aviary. A "red neck" gentleman on youtube said quail like sand/grit area. They often will lay their eggs in the sand area. Best wishes, Blessings. 😊
Kevin you may want to put Tex up for sale earlier rather than later. Once Tex finds a new home you can purchase a new Sire / bull. If any of the cows are open the new bull will figure that out, the heifers can be put back in with the herd to be serviced by the new bull. Also if Tex can see and smell the heifers he may push thru the barbed wire fence to try to service them. That male hormone drive is pretty strong. Best wishes. Blessings. 😊
So glad to hear no one was hurt during the storm. Loved seeing Babe and the other cows. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to share your videos. 😊
About two months ago, here in Oklahoma, a quick freak storm picked up my hoop coop and sent it airborn into my neighbors yard and slammed it down flat. It happened at night and all of my 15 hens and 1 rooster was inside roosting. We only lost the rooster. We rebuilt the coop and tied down with ties we ordered from Amazon that are used to tie down trampolines. So far it has worked! Love watching ya'lls videos for several years now!
Hello my friends! :D So glad everyone made it through the storm unscathed and that you had the materials to replace the broken hoop coop. At least your "Fluffy Butt Hut" sign was pristine and you were able to just attach it to the new one. :D God bless you and your wonderful family. Have an awesome day my fabulous friends! :D
So sorry about the frozen pipes. Glad they thawed quickly. Woke up to no heat Tuesday because the drain on the natural gas heater was frozen. Incorrectly installed by the sellers/flippers. Now I know why I followed my instincts & stayed this winter. Monett was -6 below & -20 windchill. Stay warm neighbors. Warmup coming our way. 🙏💙
Tex is one big handsome boy! He has done a good job for you. I will miss Rose and i know kevin really will miss her but its a blessing that she is going to a family you know and im sure they will give you updates along the way.
Kevin & Sarah, I am so sorry y'all had bad weather like that. I pray you can recover from this the losses. Thank God your animals are ok. Habe a BLESSED DAY ❤❤❤
I don't have children however I feel like I'm watching my kids and I'm so proud of you. I've watched you from the get go and watched you grow from a few chicks and ducks to where you are now. I'm 71 now and I did work hard like the 2 of you do all of my life. It does take a team working together to get the most out of your life style. Cherish your time together . I want so much to still do what you do. My mind wants to continue to have the rabbits and poultry of all types but the body won't cooperate with my mind. That's why I love watching you. I wish I could do it all again. I don't mind being 71, I just miss being able to work and to have my husband by my side. God bless you in every way, It's a crazy world and HE is the light to follow.
You know that same storm ripped through our property too. We are in the midlands of SC. My children were outside getting their afternoon chores done when that wind picked up. My 14 yr old daughter came in the house because she was afraid. I told her she could wait till the wind died down but she would probably get rained on. She decided to endure the wind instead of the rain. While she was out there she said a prayer to God asking him to help her with her fear. As soon as she ended her prayer she looked up and seen her slightly younger brother running to help her finish her chores❤ What a wonderful testimony. The storm did just come out of nowhere though. I am so thankful that I had prepared my animal shelters for the hurricane the prior week. I too was going to buy those ground anchors but I was afraid that my soil is too sandy and they would hold. So I put tpost in as well and then zip tied them to the coops. That wind didn't move them coops😊
So glad that all the animals were safe and sound! Sorry to hear about the structural damage, but it seems like you are treating this minor tragedy as an experience to take things as you find them, learn, grow and make things better. So happy that the "Fluffy Butt Hut" sign survived. 😄 Love seeing the cows! 🐄🐮 Babe is such a beautiful cow. May she bring you lots of milk, and live a long, happy, healthy life. Aw...sad to see Tex leave, his gentle nature captured my heart and he was one of my favorites to see, but that's farm life. Change is one of the only constants.
I finally moved up here permanently in August and that storm came through Cabool as well! It was really strong and powerful but I sustained no damage, thank the Lord. So glad that none of the birds were hurt! I'm overjoyed to hear that Rose and Babe were bred. And what a blessing for the family that you sold Rose to! Many blessings, Texas Deb ❤️
Thank y’all for having such a positive outlook on your devastated hoop coops, great job replacing them and securing them in place. Be well and safe and much love to all ❤
Your cattle are so beautiful and healthy. I like how at peace they are with you. Poor beautiful bull. That's what he gets for doing his job well. I do understand why you need to sell him. He looks about three times the size of your Jersey but she's still walking around unbroken! She looks great, too. I can't wait to see what that cross looks like. Whatever kind of grass you have surely agrees with bovines. Thank you for caring about the quality of life for your quail. They used to run from you and now it doesn't bother them when you're in the cage. Maybe you should change your name to Peaceful Valley Homestead. 😉
The quail hoop coop may have stayed down better because it had the weight of the flooring to help it. I noticed one of your little quail was limping. I hope it is ok. ❤
Look up "trucker's hitch" for tying the cord. Let's you cinch it down better and easy to remove. Also, you can begin the job by making a loop with an overhand on the first t-post, then put the end through the loop around the t-post. The opposite side is the trucker's hitch and when you tighten it down, the loop tightens around the first t-post. Take a couple minutes per line to do for one person.
An idea for future is install them inside the door frame and on the back long post. Then use that metal strapping and screw it around the tpost. Should hold and keep the original look. You would probably have to use the 4 foot ones
Hi Sarah and Kevin! Happy to here that your place didn't take to much of a beating during that storm. The bottom in your quail hut must have kept it on the ground. QUESTION: Speaking of quail, do your quails need to take dust baths? If so, maybe take one of those containers and put some dust in it for them. Just a thought. Take care! Blessings to all!
Good morning, Sorry to hear that the wind beat you up so. I live in east central Kansas and experience some of those same winds. I copied your coop design when I built mine. I drilled holes through the base of the coop then took a 36" piece of 3/8" rebar and drove in through the holes. I bent one end of the bar over @3" so that it would hold over the 2x4 when fully driven in the ground. I live in rocky ground very similar to yours and I didn't have any issues getting them in the ground. I used a 2 lb hammer and it only took a minute or two. I also drove the rebar in at a slight angle thinking that it might offer a better hold on the earth and not be apt to pull straight out. I drove in 6 of those stakes. One in each corner, one on the sides. We've had 70-80 MPH winds this year and the coop didn't budge. Another suggestion would be to use a truckers hitch when you tie down your coops with the paracord. You'll get it tighter, more secure. Stay safe and God Bless
Behind a bit watching.. So THANKFUL NO other damage was Done on the Homestead, Kevin & Sarah..Great idea about tie downs on them Now. CONGRATULATIONS, On Babe being Breed. I'll be Watching and waiting for that New Baby! The Cows & Tex ALL look so BEAUTIFUL & Healthy..Polled Herefords (white face) were My Dad's favorite and what I grew Up around...I'm Glad You Chose Not to breed Him with the daughters..He has Been a True Blessing to Giving You Girls to increase your Herd.. And what a Blessing You are To so MANY, for Blessing a Family with Rose but TO Be Able to Watch You All these Years and I LOVE that You do share the Good Bad or Otherwise. I DO BELIEVE THAT IS Why Your Channel Continues to Grow & IT BLESSES Me that YOU ARE IN WONDERFUL & BEAUTIFUL MO like I Am..GOD BLESS & TAKE CARE. Truly Love watching you Both & Whatever You Do...
So happy to hear everyone came through the storm, it sure did a lot of damage but you were able to pull it all back together and actually improve the strength of the coops. You know what they say, "When things get tough the tough get going". You two are two of the toughest and hard working I watch on RUclips, God Bless and may you see only sunshine and rainbows . Oh by the way, I don't know cows but your herd looks great, such beautiful animals. Good Luck selling your bull, he is a handsome dude.
We had the same thing happen to us during the real heat of the summer. Our chicken tractor was thrown about 70-80 feet and took so rolls. The problem we had was we couldn’t move fast enough to get some cover for our chickens before the sky rocket heat hit and we pain stacking had to watch our beautiful chickens die from heat stroke. It was the hardest and most helplessly feeling I’ve had to go through with the animals. We have now bought emergency shelters that we can out up in a matter of minutes
I use hoop coop as well and wondered about flight risk. 1 thing - paracord has a uv issue and can break down. I will use the plummers straping to anchor my coop to the t-posts. Thanks for the videos
I am so happy for you that no animals were hurt in the storm. I think the weight of the floor in the quail aviary kept in from becoming airborne. I also think by them laying under the shelters you built shows natural instinct to hide eggs to hatch them. I have seen an aviary where their quail hatch their eggs and raise them, they have King Quail.
You guys are awesome good people, I follow many homesteading Chanel in last few years but you guys are not trying to sell anything and just very honest with everything you do. Love ❤️ you guys
Sounds like y’all had yourselves a little derecho……. Sympathy and empathy from your neighbors in Iowa. Glad you didn’t have injuries or livestock losses. That’s the important thing.
My son who is a farmer in Mississippi had one of those big winds and he had just built (I helped) a nice big deer stand, lots of 2x4, 2x6, 4x4 lumber and it was picked up and completely moved and disassembled....so I really do see how those nature movements surely rearranges the farm!
Beautiful cows and me being a city boy all my life. I appreciate channels like this. This is my favorite channel and also like hidden heights farm all the goats. Lol
My favorite part of your videos.... You guys always work together. I love seeing that you share in the work! Glad you and your homestead survived the storm with minimal damage. ❤
At time 22:37 on your video timeline, one of the quail limped/hopped to the feeder. I don't know if it had cramps(!) or if it was injured. Maybe you would want to check on that?
We have 70 to 80 mile wind gust like that out here all the time.. we found out the same way you did. But what we use is called a pet steak. Get him at home, depot lowe's harbor freight . It twists in the ground and they're like a buck 2 bucks each. I put 4 on each coop it will definitely stop it. I tried t post just didn't work out it cuts into the tarp. On your quail, I put a sandbox. They loved to take sand baths. Thanks for all the tips that you've done over the years, it saved me a lot of money.
I believe it was the same day your storm hit, our friends by Theodosia had a small tornado that did a lot of damage & they had no power for almost a week. My generator came in handy. We had super gusty winds, but minimal damage. We live about 40 miles south of you. I have a a few Round top shelters bolted to the treated 2x6 base & secured with 12 inch concrete form stakes through the 2x6 every 4 feet. I put large thick washers over the stakes with a spike through a nail hole, then pounded the stake tight to the washer. 2 years ago we had a wind like yours that shredded the tarp & bent the frame, but they didn't move an inch.
Ahhhh! Nice save! You guys were on it, lol! Just want to let you guys know about a great guy at the channel Weather Man Plus. His name is Mark and he keeps us informed of weather weeks and even a whole month before it happens. He told us about our Texas ice storm a month before it happened so we were ready for it. Gotta be honest my heart skipped a beat for the quail, so thanks for starting out by saying the critters were all ok.
So sorry for the damage to your coops. But thankful praise God not only was your house and barn not damaged but you are ok. I lost my home to a tornado in April so i understand what you are going through but again glory to God we were all ok. Weve moved and are starting anew.
My grandfather raised registered Herefords. He always switched his bulls every two years. He kept records. That way the blood lines were not mixed. They were always gentle.
I am glad the damage from the storm was not any worse. Also... very happy about your quail situation. The hoop coop is a much more humane way to raise quail if you are going to do that....
glad you and your family and animals are doing good and made It throught the Labor Day storm there's a saying that when a storm comes through comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb
❤ yup. Weather is a part of life. God doesn't give us more than we can handle. You didn't loose sny livestock, so thats great. The farm looks amazing as do you both❤
You need to follow fellow youtuber RyanHall. i no longer watch ANY other weather media at all. glad you are safe

Wow, I am so happy to hear none of the birds were injured with all that upheaval. Good reminder to plan for the worst and hope for the best!
Helpful tip. If you collect eggs in the evening, use a black light. They glow a bright redish pink color and are super easy to find.
A trucker's hitch would have been perfect for tensioning the paracord.
Consider using eye bolts at the base next to post. Attach the two with heavy gauge wire. The goal is to restrict all movement. Paracord has enough elasticity that it could allow for more potential energy effects.
Thankful that no one or any animals were hurt. PTL !!! Thank you for being good Christian farmers. GOD bless you and your family.
Instead of using that expensive tape on your folded over tarp cover, use spring clothespins or chip clips. If you dot them along the edge, they won’t get hung up when you pull the tarp over the wire.

We also had the horrid hail storm in April. This week roofs on all buildings are being replaced.

No surprise that you came up with a solution to secure the coops. Great job. I'm glad you and the animals came through okay. On to the next project!

The extra weight in the base of the quail avery is what held it down in those crazy wind gusts! So glad there was not extra damage on the farm.
What a scare, glad to hear all the animals were safe. The new anchoring system looks great! Nice to see all the cows and your good-looking bull!! 🤠

So thankful all your birds are safe. It was nice to see all your cows and Tex. Praying you find another gentle bull to replace Tex.
Adjustments to worst case scenarios sometimes crop up. Glad none of the birds were harmed.
I’m sorry you all had so much damage
Praise The Lord your home was not damaged.
We also had awful storms blow through with straight line winds.
You experienced tornado wind, lucky that the wind didnot get into a real tornado.
Thankfully no one was injured! God bless you and yours!
Someone mentioned using trampoline tie downs and I think it's a very good idea.
Storms come out of somewhere. Reality! 4 concrete corner tie-downs 2 feet deep will hold down everything next time.
Lol
What a shame. And wood is so expensive. Glad everyone is ok. And everything is repairable
I enjoy sitting on my porch and watching the storms roll in, and I always think of you guys as it passes, knowing it's on its way to you.
We are approximately 1 hour north of you and we lost huge limbs off several Oak trees. I am very glad you are instructing us on a more secure coop
So happy that the storm wasn't any worse for you, altho having to repair stuff is never fun. Take care and God's Blessings.
🌺So thankful all of you are ok and the animals are too, could have been way worse!
My gosh tex is such a beautiful boy 💗💗
Keeping you all in my prayers.
Glad no animals were harmed
Very sorry that you had such horrible weather, but am impressed with the t-post parachute cord anchor.
I don't do Instagram thank you though
Good morning everyone!🌄😊 So glad y'all and the birds are alright!
Oh no! 😮 Glad you were safe during the storm. Building structures can be rebuilt..... Body structures can't!
So enjoy your videos. Thanking God for His blessing on your family. God bless
So thankful that everyone is okay after the storm and you were able to rebuild! Can’t wait to see Babe’s baby! She’s so pretty! ❤️
