OMG ITS DA GENERAL DYNAMICS AND ELECTRIC EDIT OMG OMG rejoice or something been too lazy to edit lately, but I feel like this one came out okay. no clue what I'm working on next.
@@21reasons47 fun fact: EBC has a yard that you can see from the Northeast Regional or Acela Amtraks, but it is simply labelled as "General Dynamics. But, like every submarine drydock, it's just a big warehouse on the water cause ya gotta cover the submarine yards.
@@21reasons47 If you know the history, it's not just a subsidiary. It *is* General Dynamics. Electric Boat became General Dynamics in the 1950s, then started acquiring other companies so it could diversify into other types of defense work. As it got bigger, it kept the Electric Boat name specifically for work on submarines, and organized that work as a division of the company.
As a worker in a major General Dynamics shipyard the lack of boats is immeasurably disappointing. If you dont mind, I think I'll leave now to go wipe off my tears with a few more billion tax dollars.
To be fair, GD*IT* has some contracts that are trying to modernize various legacy government agency IT systems. I'm also pretty sure those "out of date computers" are probably military spec, radiation hardened computers. The development cycles for such equipment are light-years behind because of those "features".
I find it more funny how GE simply makes everyday use house appliances then you find out that they have 2 whole different divions on the Brt Brt Gau and locomotives. Like honestly, its pretty rad yet funny to realize it later on
GE also does heavy duty industrial units including the world's most powerful gas turbine (and most powerful jet engine) along with a series of nuclear plants
Honeywell is the next craziest company, making missile guidance systems and turbine engines to rubber gloves and thermostats. Also, Korea has Hyundai and Japan has Mitsubishi too.
Japan might be the king of conglomerates, Kawasaki makes airplanes, portions of airplane engines, dirt bikes, etc. Yamaha makes saxophones and sportbikes and portions of toyota's greatest engines ever. Mitsubishi is such a wild one though, I have a pad of fancy Mitsubishi paper for fountain pens, but then they also made the turbo in my car, they just do anything, and they do it extremely well.
Not sure if you're already aware, but even though the names are similar, General Electric and General Dynamics are two different conglomerates, neither owns the other.
I was real confused when it showed the GE commercial... and then the GD land systems right after. Realllly double checked that one just to make sure I wasn't tripping. GE is pretty cool, but not as cool as GD.
I don't think this really matters but as a note, General Dynamics and General Electric are unrelated companies. General Dynamics does submarines, designed the F-16 (Lockheed builds them now), and GE does the gatling guns, refrigerators, etc.
love me some footage of the abrams with a green/woodland paint scheme since we don't see a lot due to us fighting in the middle east for the past 30 years making a majority of abrams footage show them tan
2:09 Engineers really used Frog painters tape from home depot to fix their targets. Someone tell the DOD that 3M works just as good at 20% of the cost lmao
they are separate companies, but god damn do many people think they're the same company. so i just went with it. i mean, they both have the "general" name so it still sorta fits.
The quad miniguns at 3:45 aren't General Dynamics, but Dillon Aero. Just thought you might wanna know, cos its fucking cool, and rips around 12 thousands rounds a minute at a cost of around 6 to 8 thousand dollars. For the cost of ammunition, of course.
Is everyone ignoring the fact that GD and GE are 2 completely different companies with different structures? These guys make the A-10 gun and toasters -> General Electric Company (GE) is an American multinational conglomerate founded in 1892 and incorporated in the state of New York and headquartered in Boston. The company has several divisions, including aerospace, power, renewable energy, digital industry, additive manufacturing, and venture capital and finance. (wikipaste) These guys make literally every navy destroyer you can think of + tanks and jets -> General Dynamics Corporation (GD) is an American publicly traded aerospace and defense corporation headquartered in Reston, Virginia. As of 2020, it was the fifth-largest defense contractor in the world by arms sales, and fifth largest in the United States by total sales.[2] The company is a Fortune 100 company, and was ranked No. 94 in 2022. (wikipaste) Edit: As someone who is both interested in electrical engineering and works at a GD shipyard, I urge you to split this video into a navy/tank comp for GD and toasters/miniguns for GE.
Personally, I feel like a great edit would have normal, household product adverts made by GE interspersed through the military equipment. That way it shows just how truly universal they’ve become for America.
"I need more content, so next I'm going to do more videos using foreign defense companies that work with NATO countries as good content" - Indexium in several months
BTW, mergers and acquisitions are a funny old world . . . GD sold off the division that made CIWS Phalanx long ago, so now it belongs to Raytheon. But later on, they bought the division of the former Control Data that makes the main computer that drives the thing, so now GD is a subcontractor on it. ;-)
"We make refrigerators, toasters, washing machines, cannons bigger than a car, fighter jets and tanks, we are General Dynamics"

Yeah, but every so often you can catch a hull section out on the pier or if they're close to launching a boat you can see a whole sub out there
