Electric Boat became General Dynamics in the 1950s, then started acquiring other companies so it could diversify into other types of defense work. As it got bigger, it kept the Electric Boat name specifically for work on submarines, and organized that work as a division of the company.
As a worker in a major General Dynamics shipyard the lack of boats is immeasurably disappointing. If you dont mind, I think I'll leave now to go wipe off my tears with a few more billion tax dollars.
