Can someone tell me what screwdriver is needed to remove the Start. Run, Off dial? can't see in the little hole even with a flashlight and even inserting a long Phillips doesn't seem to bite anything. Thank you.
It seems like the generators changed after they added the CO2 sensor. I don’t have that one , so I am not sure. I will look for a wiring diagram and see if I can figure out a bypass.
@@SMARTHOMERGV I was able to figure this out but on newer models the j plug is no longer used. A male/female connection is now used. This connection is behind the black plastic housing so you have to dig deeper into the generator. I cant remember to wire colors but once I figure this out it worked perfect. I also converted my 2000 watt generator the same way.
Hi, I have a question my Predator 3500 won't shut off when I turn the knob to the off position and sputters and sputters like it's dying but won't shut off for about 3 minutes. Any ideas?
Mine take a long time to shut down. It all depends on how much fuel is in the lines and carburetor. Give it a few minutes to see if it shuts down. Be sure to remove the load from the generator.
@@SMARTHOMERGV Thanks for the reply. I am not sure what is causing this as it only started doing this about 6 months ago. I wonder if it is either the shutoff switch or possibly the cable that connects to the carb or even a dirty carb. I always have added Sea Foam as a fuel stabilizer also.
I hope you’re still checking this because I have a question. I did your mod before ever even using my gen. Mod works great (Thanks), but I have an issue. If I plug in a standard cheap electric heater, it works great. However, if I use my fancy digitally controlled heater, my heater doesn’t recognize my gen as a power source. No heat, no lights, nothing. Could this mod have anything to do with that, or do you have another suggestion? PS. I also have the HF 2000 Inverter, and it runs both heaters fine. Thanks Again!!!
Some sensitive electronics might require a neutral bonded power source. They sell adapters on Amazon for less than $10 or you can make your own with an old plug. All it does is it connects the neutral and the ground. You simply plug it into the generator onto an available plug and it should hopefully work. Good luck.
Very ingenious! I just purchased the Predator and was thinking about the best way to shut-off the fuel supply to drain the carb. Your solution is eloquent and I think I’ll copy it!
You don't explain if closing the toggle switch across the black and red wires on JST connector shuts off the engine, or opening the toggle switch across the JST shuts off the engine.
Just a note that I would like to share with everyone, check your fuel valve for a bypass, mine didn't leak any fuel, but it didn't totally shut the gas off to the carburetor, I could drain the carburetor bowl come back 15 minutes later and it's full again.
It should work fine. In my opinion, this “mod” should only be used when storing your generator for more than a few days. When we go camping, I don’t use it at all, but when we get home and put it away, I make sure the fuel in the fuel is used up to avoid issues. Mine has been running great after this.
Like the video it is very informative, my question is i did this mod as instructed in the video and when i turn the switch to off the engine seems to run for a long time. The main switch in the off positio dosen't seem to shut the fuel off the engine continues to run for over ten minutes. Any thoughts or suggestions.
Hello. Do you have in on eco mode? The delay in shutting down is simply fuel that is left in the lines/carb bowl being used up. These things run 11+ hours on a tank of gas, so you know they are pretty fuel-efficient. Something to keep in mind, I only do this procedure if it's going to be a few days/weeks before I use it again. If I know I'm planning on using it more frequently, I don't bother draining the additional fuel from the bowl. It won't be there long enough to leave residue (gunk) and cause issues. Best of luck.
The JST connectors apparently sizes come in 1.25mm, 2.0mm and 2.54mm. Anybody know the correct size JST that fits on this machine? Maybe a link to either Amazon or Ebay perhaps?
Just another " Modification " on this great design that is NOT needed. What is so hard about taking the side panel off with only 2 phillips screws and drain the carb using the drain provided? Takes 15 seconds folks and while you're there makes it much easier to also check the oil. And best idea of all,,, turn the knob to run or start and drain ALL the gas out so NO possibility of gas going bad in the unit. Don't drill holes or leave doors and panels off. Don't overfill gas tank. Clean or take spark arrester off, only use fresh, clean fuel and it will run a long trouble free life. Some people depend on this generator to run critical medical equipment and these ," Modifications " the " Experts " put out make it less reliable. Some of the modifications can actually make it overheat and fail.
The "lean out" over rev can damage the windings of the generator.Never hand throttle/by pass the governor on any generator - the inertia spreads the windings apart.
Thats exactly what i do. Just drain the tank and carb through the carb drain screw.. Thats what its there for. I do this every time I store my gen..I then shoot some carb cleaner up into and through the jet.

It’s a Phillips screw.
@@SMARTHOMERGV Like every other screw on the gen. Just needs a longer screw driver
My predator 3500 does not have the j plug connection. How can I go about installing this kill switch.

@@SMARTHOMERGV : Thank you so much!
Does it matter which wire (red or black) connects to which post on the toggle switch.
Polarity doesn’t matter on this mod.
Well, just my luck. I have a “newer” version and it has no little plug in wire coming out of the rear wall as yours does 🤦🏻♂️
Excellent, thank you sir!

Will this work with a remote start stop I added?

My fuel shut-off doesn't work at all on mine since new. Good video though.
Thanks for this vid. Been wondering how to do this. I wonder how it would work with my remote starter set up.
