I don't like the design of the "differ". I would think when you have mastered the image cropping, you'll find no reason to play games with image differences. I don't think there is any reason to claim Image Magick is lacking capabilities based on what I see in the video. In my opinion, I don't want a tool that hides an actual image difference. The reason for the image comparison seems lost within your tool's implementation. If you can diff on a partial bitmap, there's no reason to look for an object identifier.
