Excellent video, thanks! I rode half of the GDMBR (touring slow) down to Steamboat. Hopefully I'll finish the next half summer of 2023. It took me 40 days to reach Steamboat at 68 years old, much respect to all cyclists that make it all the way. It is a tough route mentally and physically. No two days are the same, each day a challenge in its own way.

Great editing; great music background. What an epic trip to make when you're in your middle years. Wish I'd done more of that (now 70) when I was there. Impressive that you did the whole trip on rigid bicycles. You even went through Pie Town, NM. I knew a rancher there some 20-30 years ago. Cheers.

At 81 it would take me twice as long. Partly because I have learned after a lifetime outside to savor every inch of the journey. Hard to find guys my age who are alive and able to bike.

Your wife is a blessing to you, and she is an inspiration. She should be an inspiration to other women who have a good husband like you, and who would want him to go off, and do some thing so profound to travel from Canada to Mexico. She truly is one of the few women that sees value and you doing this. So I’m thinking her role I want you to do this because we good to see an extraordinary video that was really quite moving.
And if you don’t mind me asking, where is it that you folks live? I don’t mean exactly I mean to have such a question, but I’m just curious.

Great Video. Actually the GDMBR starts in Jasper, the Tour Divide starts in Banff. You can start the GDMBR in Banff, but it's technically not the start of the full route.

Did you guys experience leg cramps, and if so how did you cope them, ie magnesium electrolytes, we are the bomb and it never happened? Any Advice greatly appreciated. Ps I'm 6'7" any suggestions on bike for this adventure? My roadbike is a Rivendell 68 cm 80s design style, but modern steel lugged frame.

Hey Jake, I’m 6’6” and rode a specialized diverge 64. Pushed it on the tire clearance but made it work with 700x45’s. Food was always the challenge (weight/calories) but keeping emergency tailwind and gu products helped. The northern hot days required more electrolytes. Hope you can get out there!

Definitely not a trail to ride a non-suspension recumbent trike.. LOL. My dream is to see a parallel paved path, so that the rider can choose a smooth riding paved path, or jump off and fight the trenches, deep potholes and 18% climbs of an expert mountain bike rider.. I want equal access as a disabled rider, and a side path would provide that.

  • @mountaintruth1deeds533
