My biggest regret in life would be forgetting how to speak my first language after moving to America. I can still understand it, which is a headstart. My parents encourage me to speak to them but I'm too scared because I feel like I have too much of an accent, or I'll make grammar mistakes ;-(

I was playing Lindie Botes videos in the background while I did other things,
Letting the ads play in support this good content,
When an ad began to drag on for much longer than I was expecting...
So if there's a bump in this month's ad revenue, it's probably present
Because I sat through an ad that must've been 30 minutes long. 😅
It was for some special dog food... and I don't even have a pet,
But it was somewhat interesting to hear about what ingredients belong
In a healthy diet for a dog. I just wish it were in my language target. 😂

I have the French DALF C2 certificate, and yet my spoken French has gone way down over the past few years... When I was at the Polyglot Conference back in October, someone started speaking French to me and my mind went almost completely blank. It was so embarrassing! I'm not particularly motivated to maintain the language, which is perhaps the biggest problem, but, what's more, I'm also hopeless at switching from one language to another in general.

But then I stopped talking in Italian because I moved to Sweden and there was nobody that spoke italian. So unfortunatly I forgot the language completely (I'm 16 years old now). My question is: Will I be able to talk Italian without an accent if I learn it again. I'm so afraid that I will have an accent because that's the most important language for me. thank you! I'm studying Japanese & Business at college and so I have to follow "a script" when there are more effective ways, such as shadowing and rtk (heisig method). Like how I can I combine these 2 "ways" in order to not disregard follow the strict way with textbook and what my sensei tells me? I hope you understand what I mean :D

I am not her, but I would say that you should begin as everyone else, but you most probably will learn faster than the average because your mind retained features of that language (I am saying this based on evidences from an experiment in linguistics that I read some time ago). Btw hi from Brasil, I always feel happy when I see people wanting to learn (relearn in your case) my native language.

Does this work if we used to be fluent and forgot it after childhood?

I think so. I forgot German when I moved to the states at age 5. I stopped speaking German since I lived in the US.. I still remember most of the grammar structure and some vocabulary. This is why I’m working on increasing my vocabulary and reading/writing. I guess it depends on what you still remember?

Can't believe it took me so long to watch this video... I "learned" French for basically my whole life but I've never been fluent, but I also am much higher than base but little pieces of lower things are gone. It's been intimidating me so this is really helpful ❤

This has been a huge struggle for me-- I'm currently working full time on top of taking an online graduate school program. I'm also earnestly learning to drive for the first time in my life (I know, weird for a middle-aged guy who doesn't live in New York not knowing how to drive), and am working on a power-lifting program. The goal when I graduate is to teach English in Moscow or St. Petersburg for a year and then come back and start on my PhD.
But I've let my Russian go and it became very easy to let my Russian tutoring go.
I have a lot of work to do, but what I can do right now?
Watch Russian horror movies, I need to get my ears accustomed to it again. Plus I love horror movies.
    Great video, thank you.
