    I hope the Peruvian government prevents foreign missionaries like LDS, Evangelicals etc in proselytizing in the islands to really protect THEIR CULTURE.

      The odds are they are Catholic. The Spanish had a low tolerance for non Catholics. Remember the Inquisition? On the other hand hopefully their culture doesn't include the practice of human sacrifice that was quite common throughout the region.

    • @jamesmacleod9382
      @jamesmacleod9382 2 года назад

      @Josh Traffanstedt They do work locally. But Evangelicals are making big inroads in South America. I worked for a Utah based company and most employees were Mormons. The boss( a great guy) did his mission in Peru, but lots of the young employees were doing theirs in the US and EU. It seems wacky, but what religion doesn't with a little scrutiny?

    • @ProximaCentauri88
      @ProximaCentauri88 2 года назад

      @@jamesmacleod9382 Spanish only gave them new names and a religion for control but they didn't actually replaced their beliefs. Most Catholics outside Europe practice Catholicism wih a lot of inidgenous rituals. Evangelical Protestantism and Mormonism are more agressive. They strip tue culture to the core.

      Actually no. I was there in late 2016.
      We visited an island with similar layout. The tours alternate the islands that the tours visit in order to to include all of the family units in the potential for tourists to purchase their artwork. Which is beautiful btw.
      We were allowed to smoke. They had ashtrays!

    They could save an old island by drilling holes through it to the water below and inserting
    deflated air bags into the water, then inflating them with a foam like Styrofoam.
    They could also use plastic bottles.The bottles are put in nets and weighted down to below the island then the weight is cut to let the bottles float up under the island.

    I wonder if there is a cultural connection between the Uro people and the "Si-Te-Ca" of NV. Their living conditions are similar. The Si-Te-Ca name was given by the Paiutes with whom they were at war. It means, "Tule Eaters." They retreated to living on rafts made of tule reeds on a lake in NV as protection from the Paiutes and they used tule reeds for food. The Paiutes said they were cannibals and killed off the remaining tribe by asphyxiation in Lovelock Cave.
