Dearest Becca, how great. I couldn't wrap lots of presents now but used to be exactly like you when my boys were young and we didn't have much money. I loved seeing my boys' faces Christmas when Santa had left them lots of presents. As my birthday was just before Christmas, I used to use any birthday money for them. Like you, as long as they were happy, that was all that mattered and even now, all these decades later, it is still my job and I would still give my life for them.❤❤❤❤
I get so tired of wrapping but I do it in increments. I have a bunch wrapped already so that when Christmas is right around the corner, I don’t have a million presents to wrap hahaha. But yessss I love my kids reactions when opening them and I take a million pictures of their surprised and super excited faces hahaha. I was just reminiscing with pics from 2 years ago at Christmas and pretty much every single gift they opened they had either super shocked faces or huge smiles lol. I want to go for that again this year hahaha.
The roll of “choose your size” vacuum bag material is more commonly used than individual bags. Also, even with individual “pre-made” bags, those can be made into multiple shorter bags by sealing both ends of the cut pieces. The bags are plastic rolls, and “sealing” is done by melting the pieces together. If you have any random bags with chips, rice, beans, marshmallows, sugar, etc. and want to seal closed, your machine should be able to do that. I don’t mean the vacuum part (because I think the bag material needs to be a certain weight to tolerate/hold vacuum pressure), but the sealing part - sure. You can reuse bags that foods came in also - for example, the smallish clear plastic bags that dry rice comes in. Say you want to organize your beads - you can cut portions of the rice bag and then seal on 1,2,3, or all 4 sides (depending on how you cut the bag) to make a tiny sealed bag with beads inside. Or maybe you have leftover marshmallows which can go stale. Cut a clean line along the top opened edge, then seal it up with the machine. And you can do that without the machine too. When the plastic gets hot enough, it melts. If you pinch the open edge together while heating, it will melt shut. Ive seen it done with a hair flat iron, (using a piece of baking paper between the iron and bag). If you’re ever in a pinch, and have a bag that broke or something that needs to be closed, just use a lighter, pinch the pieces together and carefully melt shut. It only takes a second or two to melt and set the plastic together. I’ve been out and had a lipstick totally break. I had a huge chunk of the broken lipstick and didn’t want to toss it away…but I also didn’t have any decent way to keep the broken piece in my purse without making a huge mess. I did have a mini size wrapped Twizzler candy, so I ate the Twizzler then put the lipstick piece in the small candy bag. I wanted to be sure that the lipstick stayed in the bag. Sooo…With a lighter and house keys, I used the keys to help pinch the little bag closed while I carefully melted the plastic bag shut. Problem solved! Just by cautious since you can be too aggressive and light the plastic on fire. Holding the flame close will melt it - no need to touch the flame to the plastic. And it’s best to use something other than your fingers to pinch while melting…. And another similar-ish “hack: hot glue sticks can be melted with a flame. Cut a small slice of glue stick off, and keep it in your purse (jab a toothpick through the piece also). If you’re ever in a situation where something breaks and/or needs to be held together, hold the glue stick bit on the end of the toothpick and heat with a flame. It will melt - then use as normal! If you mess up, just re-heat it to melt again and use. Just make sure you keep a lighter in your bag for an instant -fix glob of glue or improvised sealed bag!
