The understated design that's clearly reminiscent of cliché Yakuza that still manages to feel badass, his utter loyalty to his squad and captain (and most people think Renji is the ultimate loyal member to Byakuya in Bleach, yet Iba outstrips him entirely), even the fact that he isn't in it much. That could just be a product of Iba not actually being interesting, but I like to think it's that Iba has a ton of secrets and backstory that Kubo simply didn't have time to explore. He became captain for one or more reasons, that's one of the most well-defined rules and traditions of the Gotei 13. Shinigami aren't put in positions for no reason, though a few characters like Isane also being made captain kind of fight against that point
Na hes rated exactly accurate. He gets 0 char development 0 story. Hard to like his char when he barely has 1. He gets points for design and the personality we do see

Glad Yoruichi made it to the top ten. She's quite the badass and her willingness to defy and break the rules to do what is right makes her stand out along with a handful of others. Shunsui taking such a spot is fitting given his role as Captain Commander and the sheer amount of unprecedented reforms and changes that have arrived to Soul Society under his leadership.

I didn’t quite expect the rankings to be so dominated by so few characters, the top 15, top 5 especially had an absolute insane amount of votes. While it was was sad to see my 5 votes kind of under perform what I thought they may have been able to do (yumichika, szayel, riruka, liltotto and rangiku) this was so absolutely amazing to watch.
It killed me to see Mayuri not make top 10 but it was great to see everyone’s spots, I definitely couldn’t have guessed most of them. Here’s to a HUGELY successful 2022 and beyond for you and your channel!

Looking at the larger context, I'd say that Kensei, Chad, Hisagi, Nell, Unohana, Yamamoto, Starrk, Shinji, Gin, Grimmjow, Kyoraku and Urahara all did better than I expected. I'm happy that Urahara managed to defeat Aizen, very fitting. Uryu, Renji, and even Rukia definitely did worse than I personally expected.
From what I've seen/remember of Japan's popularity polls, I think Rukia and Toshiro usually take the top two spots (at least more recently in Rukia's case), and Ichigo is slightly behind. But overall that would make Ichigo number 1 in worldwide votes and the other 4 would probably be Urahara, Aizen, Rukia, and Toshiro in no particular order.
Everyone says he is popular / well liked . To the point they hate him for that . He is not even top 12 . Out of the most proeminent characters he is last . Lower than byakuya or kenpachi
Ikkaku is my boy. Him vs Edrad was the very first thing from Bleach I ever saw when it was airing on Toonami, so he’s always had a special place in my heart.
Nice! Came home from the bars and turned on the tv at 1am to see a one armed Grimmjow fighting a creepy masked guy in black above a city. Watching DBZ style fighting with swords intrigued me and the style was really cool so I started binging it. Been hooked ever since. I’ll Ikkaku is in my top 5 favorites.

Hell yah, ma boy Urahara got number 1. I always knew he was immensely popular, i was expecting maybe a top 3, but i never expected top 1. I am sure in a japanese audience, he would not have won. Funny part is that despite Aizen being his favorite character, he has his RUclips avatar modeled after Urahara, i think :))) I was surprised though that a fan service character like matsumoto ranked so low.

A fun, interesting video! I believe all 5 characters I voted for made the top twenty, not bad! With such a large cast of characters, voting for only 5 maximum means characters with a lot of appearances in the books, manga and anime will rank higher. Characters with a standout arc, even if they appear less often, will also do well. It would be interesting to see how the results would change if this contest allowed us to vote for 10 - 20 characters instead of 5. The results went as I expected, with a few surprises. I am shocked Shinji ranked so high, I didn’t expect him to even reach the top 30. I’m also surprised Yamamoto, Soi Fon and Hiyori got as many votes as they did. I also expected Uryu Ishida, Orihime , Yachiru and Renji to rank higher. The top 3 are well deserved, and no surprise at all.

I was very excited for this popularity poll, and watching this I can really say that I could never be disappointed. Bleach has so many good characters, and we can see it in the variety of characters in this list. I think my top 5 did pretty well. I've had so much fun watching it, it was very worth the wait. The work that was put into this video is absolutely amazing. Fantastic job! Obviously some of my choices were not as high as I would have liked - Shinji should have been higher in my opinion - but overall a good top 10. Aizen should have gotten first place.
Interesting, this differs from what I had found years ago from working on the Bleach wiki. The most popular characters hands down from people who came to the wiki were Ulquiorra and Zaraki. Close behind was Zangetsu. I guess with the series having ended some years ago now, many of the people who liked those characters purely because they were strong have grown up and been able to look at the series and evaluate each character as a person rather than as just a fighter.
Honestly, I didn't expect Mashiro to have so many votes, even though one of them was mine. I expected, maybe, a little more for Orihime, but I'm pretty happy with the results. As always, great video MrTommo!

I didn't vote for Ichigo, but i am stoked to see him so high up. How many other 'average guy thrust on an epic adventure to save the day' protagonists are the most bland and boring characters you have ever seen? They depend on the kooky characters they meet along the way and the epic adventure to make the story interesting. If these stories had as many interesting and diverse characters as bleach does, I doubt their protagonist would come close to a top ten. It just goes to show how well Bleach has handled Ichigo, that we are as invested in him and his journey as we are.

I'm really happy with this and I knew who would be in the top 10 haha. A couple I wished did better but I know they didn't because they didn't get enough of the limelight they were promised.

Hell yah, ma boy Urahara got number 1. I always knew he was immensely popular, i was expecting maybe a top 3, but i never expected top 1. I am sure in a japanese audience, he would not have won. Funny part is that despite Aizen being his favorite character, he has his RUclips avatar modeled after Urahara, i think :))) I was surprised though that a fan service character like matsumoto ranked so low.
Honestly, 53rd was much higher than I anticipated for Nemu to make it. I have to find the other 18 Nemu voters in the comments, for the sake of solidarity.

With such a large cast of characters, voting for only 5 maximum means characters with a lot of appearances in the books, manga and anime will rank higher. Characters with a standout arc, even if they appear less often, will also do well. It would be interesting to see how the results would change if this contest allowed us to vote for 10 - 20 characters instead of 5.
The results went as I expected, with a few surprises. I am shocked Shinji ranked so high, I didn’t expect him to even reach the top 30. I’m also surprised Yamamoto, Soi Fon and Hiyori got as many votes as they did. I also expected Uryu Ishida, Orihime , Yachiru and Renji to rank higher. The top 3 are well deserved, and no surprise at all.

I was very excited for this popularity poll, and watching this I can really say that I could never be disappointed. Bleach has so many good characters, and we can see it in the variety of characters in this list. I think my top 5 did pretty well. I've had so much fun watching it, it was very worth the wait.

The work that was put into this video is absolutely amazing. Fantastic job! Obviously some of my choices were not as high as I would have liked - Shinji should have been higher in my opinion - but overall a good top 10.

Interesting, this differs from what I had found years ago from working on the Bleach wiki. The most popular characters hands down from people who came to the wiki were Ulquiorra and Zaraki. Close behind was Zangetsu. I guess with the series having ended some years ago now, many of the people who liked those characters purely because they were strong have grown up and been able to look at the series and evaluate each character as a person rather than as just a fighter.
Really loved all the designs of the character rankings! Did a really good job selecting one shots and putting the layout together!

I love Ulquiorra, senjumaru, unohana, as nodt, pernida, tsukishima, gremmy.. the creepier designs, but I couldn't put them in my top 5 cause they just didn't do enough to warrant it for me. You put a ton of work into this, very impressive.

I second that. Need a work that details his and Yoruichi's time on the Stealth Force. Yes it won't be pretty given they were killers for the power mad aristocracy, but it it'll be worth it and provide us with a better understanding of their dynamic both as a dou and individually.

How many other 'average guy thrust on an epic adventure to save the day' protagonists are the most bland and boring characters you have ever seen? They depend on the kooky characters they meet along the way and the epic adventure to make the story interesting. If these stories had as many interesting and diverse characters as bleach does, I doubt their protagonist would come close to a top ten. It just goes to show how well Bleach has handled Ichigo, that we are as invested in him and his journey as we are.
When Rukia was shown, I knew the top three, in that order. Disappointed with Rukia but happy with the winner, my second fav character
