Summarize() vs AddColumns() vs SummarizeColumns() Which of these has the best performance & how ?

  • In this video we will discuss about the best DAX formula for summarizing a table. We will see how each of these formulas are derived and their respective performances using DAX Studio and finally we will use one of these in a DAX measure as a variable.
    Always clear cache before loading data in DAX studio !!

    Thanks for the explaining the difference. I have sued the summarised function in the same way you used but my grand total is not correct ? Any guidance would really help

    Great content, the only thing I would recommend changing would be disabling those mouse click sounds and bell ring, they're quite annoying.

      I used the adventure works datawarehouse database from Microsoft.. download any version.. they all have same structure

    Hey Senthil, I n getting this error message when I try any of the functions "The expression refers to multiple columns. Multiple columns cannot be converted to a scalar value.". I m using the same database. Any suggestion please?

      Absolutely, as far as those tables are related(connected), you can use columns from the model..

    Why the hell should I use addcolumns & use calculate instead of summarize ?? What differentiation does this addcolumns brings to the table. Of the 3 summarizecoulmns outperforms then y we need to learn or use summarize, addcolumns ??? Marketing gimmicks to say pbi has 500+ builtins 😂😂

      There are specific use cases for each.. this one in video is a very common use case.. but you may be right too.. never know..
