I ship Lapidot, but I wouldn't mind if they still end up as friends towards the end of the series. As long as they stay with a healthy and strong friendship, I would be satisfied.

Levels of Shippers(My Opinion) Level 1: People who ship stuff. They can respect other ships. Level 2: People who will try to subtly convince people to go to their ships. They still respect other ships, but will still want their ship to be canon. *This level is the most common* Level 3: These people will do anything to show their love for that ship. They may go into arguments/debates about which ship is better, but most of the time, are still able to listen to the other ships' side. Level 4: These are the crazy people who will do anything to make their ship canon. They may have shrines, and will most likely be the ones bullying and harassing others to side with their ship.

Agreed. It's disturbing to see how aggressive some people can become over fictional characters. Fandom in general is a pretty awesome thing, but when the obsession reaches a point where fans get so defensive of their "ships" or other personal preferences that they no longer show any consideration for the feelings of actual living people, it's past time to come back to the real world ! The most ironic part of this is that Steven Universe is all about positive attitudes like compassion, acceptance and forgiveness, and yet somehow those who have been moved by those stories aren't necessarily all very eager to do them justice through their own example. Those who react violently to the smallest detail they disapprove of don't bring anything constructive to the fandom, but instead harm its reputation and just succeed at demonstrating that they're totally missing the whole point.
Been a thing way before the term shipping became a thing. I personally enjoy potential ships but I also understand that I am just a fan and have no real saying over the outcome of a show. A lot of people need to realize that. If a show ships something, it's just for the sake of fan service and sometimes that can be really annoying.
I'm a Brony and it's a toxic community. I avoid most of the fandom like the plague for many reasons. I blame Bronycon. A lot of fandoms become severally toxic and people forget what the show was originally was about.
There's a reason it's called fan FICTION. I remember I was browsing mlp fanfics once and came across one with tons of down votes. Curious as to what the fuss was about, I read it. It was well written, with minimal grammatical errors, and punctuation was on point. The 'problem' was people didn't like the ship. Yeah. Down votes and negative comments just because of the pairing. There were even multiple comments saying that they didn't even read the story and just came to thumbs down the story. The story got deleted and the author hasn't been online for nearly a year. What the hell is wrong with people?

Does it matter? she helps make the series and did little sketches of two popular characters because she wanted to. put it this way, you make/help make a massive word resulting in a colossal fandom, occasionally you're probably going to want to sketch some characters. How would you feel when you post some sketches of two characters you created or helped create only to have the fandom shove it back in your face barking nonsense? who cares, just appreciate that she posted it in the first place for you.
ikr. i see people devote everything they do online to this stuff and i mean i get it if it's a canon couple, potential canon couple or something teased, but some people get really weird. Like pairing the main character with that one guy selling cabbages in episode 26. ???????? I almost feel like its degrading when people match up characters randomly even when their character dynamic makes no sense. It's like however many possible combinations there are for each group of characters, somebody ships every single one of them. And then they get ready to slit the throats of everyone who disagrees. I do not see the appeal whatsoever.

Margo McKnew "competing ships" is the most bizarre thing to me. I don't understand how people can treat what's essentially a work of art like a season of The Bachelor. The Steven Universe fandom is very divided among ships and theories, but there is a single unspoken rule throughout the fans. Garnet is shipped with no one *no* *one*
It's because Garnet is a ship herself. She's Ruby and Sapphire fused. They are in a relationship for thousands of years and if Garnet is shipped with Pearl, for example, it will be like shipping Pearl x Ruby x Sapphire in a polyamorous relationship. And since Ruby and Sapphire have been a couple for thousands of years, the fandom doesn't want others involved in that relationship. In my opinion rupphire is the best ship in the show, but I ship lapidot really hard too.
From my knowledge, Amedot AND Lapidot are canon. Speaking from a platonic/romantic point, Amedot was canon as Peridot's "first crush" when Lapidot was written more as the "bigger, more real relationship". This may be wrong, but I remember it being confirmed by the writer of the more Amedot and Lapidot-y episodes.

And even when they are important on the final product (really important) the writers and mostly the creator of the show are the ones in control of what happens in the story, what the animators think doesn't matter as much as what they think.

its showing them in a friendly cute manner, laughing and blushing. that's often enough. you really can't joke about even the slightest friendship between same-sex characters without fully intending to make it an official relationship in some way. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the fandom dissolved into doxxing, threats, and actual violence if they keep evolving the friendship but dont take it to the next level. These people are insane and they are not afraid of letting that insanity fuel their actions.
Shipping wars are the absolute worst. The entire community becomes toxic, you become afraid to say that you support one of the ships involved and when you do, people on the opposing side will viciously attack you and persecute you in blind rage just because you support a ship that they don't. It's almost like a lynch mob is after you because of your personal preferences and opinions regarding the ship you support. It's so bad that people will throw out actual objective evidence supporting your ship just because it poses a threat to theirs. The shipping war in the Pokemon community between the AmourShippers and the Poke/Advance/PearlShippers was awful and I never want to experience that again.
That's the beauty of Steven Universe no one label truly fits any character they are all so richly nuanced even those that would traditionally be slapped with the label of antagonists. Jasper is part of some fascinating ships as well and had a tragic character arc when you look at it, I hope I get the chance to talk about her more.
Ironically, the abuse was...realisitic...it was abuse both ways. neither one of them was just a victim. so yeah. jaspar was an abuser...but she was also the abusee.
That's kind of the role she plays, I mean obviously she is much more complex and her relationship with Lapis was one of toxicity all around. They made an excellent and very real discussion of abusive and toxic relationships, not only with the metaphor of Malachite and her instability (as well as real life malachite being toxic) but with Lapis and Jasper's last confrontation--things got really real. They dealt with the complexities of abuse very well. All the same, that doesn't excuse the abusive behavior Jasper has shown to literally every other character she has encountered. It might not be right to label her but the behavior is absolutely a part of her character.

I don't ship but I personally tin Lapidot is a more likely ship then Amedot, mostly because the Amethyst and Peridot dynamic seems to me more of friends Peridot is viewing the Amethyst as cool and trying to impress her try to come across as cool as well. Doesn't seem like a romantic relationship to me. Granted there isn't any signs of Lapis and Peridot having any Romance between them either. Their dynamic could just be roommates hanging out enjoying each other's company and their favorite show.

I like them the way they are now... they are like the typical dysfunctional roommates that have their difference and constantly argue about what the other one does, but can still lay back and enjoy some good old netflix on weekend nights... I had a friend like that and I relate too much to their relationship as of now. they are my favorite gems + pearl.

Not all of the fandom is toxic. My friends and i are all obsessed with Steven Universe, and all i ever talk about, at least with one of my friends, is how in love we are with both Lapis and Peridot and how our ideal ship would be her x peridot x lapis x me But i agree with you, like any fandom, there is definitely a percentage that is toxic, and there shouldn’t be any at all, especially with the themes of the show.

And the only person she seemed to have a relationship is with Lapis, they were malachite for so long, they had to have at least have some form of relationship.

I know its a tough subject both in and out of the fandom but its interesting how the jasper and lapis paring gets swept under the rug so often. Even if their relationship was a bad one I find everyone is afraid to talk about or explore it and thats not helpful either. Not that thats at all what this video is about just an observation I had.
I think it's great to explore and discuss it but shipping usually takes on the tone of celebrating pairings--theirs is not one to be celebrated as remotely ideal.
ʋ•ᴥ•ʋ Jasper has some soul searching to do if she's ever to be redeemed. As for a relationship with Lapis: absolutely not. Theirs is a surprisingly real depiction of an abusive/toxic relationship. No matter how much each of them changes and gets better, putting them back together is only a recipe for undoing all of it and falling back into a vicious cycle. It's not guaranteed to happen, but sometimes people bring out the worst in each other, and Lapis and Jasper are like that. Maybe They can forgive, forget, and move on but there's no future there, not in a realistic sense (and it doesn't matter that its a cartoon, like i said, the SU crew took a very serious approach to this topic). Watching Alone at Sea hit me personally-- I watched my sister go through hell with her last boyfriend. She came out stronger, but I don't care if that boy finds god or something or other, or has a personality changing brain injury and comes back a new man--I would never stand by and watch something so destructive come back into her life ever again. It's just not meant to be, and this idealized notion that it could be if they just change is toxic in and of itself.

Matthew Pitts That's what happens when 12 year olds with budding and confused identities turn to fandom culture to help figure themselves out (at least i hope it's only 12 year olds immature enough to harass the creators. otherwise some 30 year olds need to get their shit together). There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but the immaturity and lack of understanding of the complexities of relationships and identities starts to represent the audience as a whole and it all just takes on a life of its own. I won't blame someone young and inexperienced for not understanding just what Jasper and Lapis having a toxic relationship really means and how it applies to real life, but I encourage them to pay attention and learn cause the SU crew have something really important to say and they're trying to say it in a way that even young audiences can learn to recognize what a bad relationship is, cause so many people fail to do so until its far too late and someone's already gotten hurt, or worse.

Level 3: These people will do anything to show their love for that ship. They may go into arguments/debates about which ship is better, but most of the time, are still able to listen to the other ships' side.
Level 4: These are the crazy people who will do anything to make their ship canon. They may have shrines, and will most likely be the ones bullying and harassing others to side with their ship.

Fandom in general is a pretty awesome thing, but when the obsession reaches a point where fans get so defensive of their "ships" or other personal preferences that they no longer show any consideration for the feelings of actual living people, it's past time to come back to the real world !
The most ironic part of this is that Steven Universe is all about positive attitudes like compassion, acceptance and forgiveness, and yet somehow those who have been moved by those stories aren't necessarily all very eager to do them justice through their own example. Those who react violently to the smallest detail they disapprove of don't bring anything constructive to the fandom, but instead harm its reputation and just succeed at demonstrating that they're totally missing the whole point.
Been a thing way before the term shipping became a thing. I personally enjoy potential ships but I also understand that I am just a fan and have no real saying over the outcome of a show. A lot of people need to realize that. If a show ships something, it's just for the sake of fan service and sometimes that can be really annoying.

It's like however many possible combinations there are for each group of characters, somebody ships every single one of them. And then they get ready to slit the throats of everyone who disagrees. Shipping wars are the absolute worst. The entire community becomes toxic, you become afraid to say that you support one of the ships involved and when you do, people on the opposing side will viciously attack you and persecute you in blind rage just because you support a ship that they don't. It's almost like a lynch mob is after you because of your personal preferences and opinions regarding the ship you support. It's so bad that people will throw out actual objective evidence supporting your ship just because it poses a threat to theirs.

That's the beauty of Steven Universe no one label truly fits any character they are all so richly nuanced even those that would traditionally be slapped with the label of antagonists. Ironically, the abuse was...realisitic...it was abuse both ways. neither one of them was just a victim. so yeah. jaspar was an abuser...but she was also the abusee.
That's kind of the role she plays, I mean obviously she is much more complex and her relationship with Lapis was one of toxicity all around. They made an excellent and very real discussion of abusive and toxic relationships, not only with the metaphor of Malachite and her instability (as well as real life malachite being toxic) but with Lapis and Jasper's last confrontation--things got really real. They dealt with the complexities of abuse very well. All the same, that doesn't excuse the abusive behavior Jasper has shown to literally every other character she has encountered. It might not be right to label her but the behavior is absolutely a part of her character.

Granted there isn't any signs of Lapis and Peridot having any Romance between them either. Their dynamic could just be roommates hanging out enjoying each other's company and their favorite show.

Lapis just got out of the worst relationship of her entire existence as far as we know. What she needs right now is friends, not a love interest who was an enemy just a few months ago.
I like them the way they are now... they are like the typical dysfunctional roommates that have their difference and constantly argue about what the other one does, but can still lay back and enjoy some good old netflix on weekend nights... I had a friend like that and I relate too much to their relationship as of now. they are my favorite gems + pearl.

The Steven universe fandom is trash to make a user quit Twitter. And most Steven universe fandom people are weird. I should have never even typed peridot on Google. This video is true though, and yes the fandom is toxic.
Not all of the fandom is toxic. My friends and i are all obsessed with Steven Universe, and all i ever talk about, at least with one of my friends, is how in love we are with both Lapis and Peridot and how our ideal ship would be her x peridot x lapis x me

But.. it wasn't Jasper doing the abuse.... she was you know, the victim. Lapis is going through guilt and fear at how much hate she had in herself. Lapis was the abuser, and she is trying to forgive herself. Plus Jasper needs help, she canonically hates herself, she thinks the abuse was a good thing because it showed her how weak she was. And the only person she seemed to have a relationship is with Lapis, they were malachite for so long, they had to have at least have some form of relationship.

I know its a tough subject both in and out of the fandom but its interesting how the jasper and lapis paring gets swept under the rug so often. Even if their relationship was a bad one I find everyone is afraid to talk about or explore it and thats not helpful either. Not that thats at all what this video is about just an observation I had.
I think it's great to explore and discuss it but shipping usually takes on the tone of celebrating pairings--theirs is not one to be celebrated as remotely ideal.

ʋ•ᴥ•ʋ Jasper has some soul searching to do if she's ever to be redeemed. As for a relationship with Lapis: absolutely not. Theirs is a surprisingly real depiction of an abusive/toxic relationship. No matter how much each of them changes and gets better, putting them back together is only a recipe for undoing all of it and falling back into a vicious cycle. It's not guaranteed to happen, but sometimes people bring out the worst in each other, and Lapis and Jasper are like that. Maybe They can forgive, forget, and move on but there's no future there, not in a realistic sense (and it doesn't matter that its a cartoon, like i said, the SU crew took a very serious approach to this topic). Watching Alone at Sea hit me personally-- I watched my sister go through hell with her last boyfriend. She came out stronger, but I don't care if that boy finds god or something or other, or has a personality changing brain injury and comes back a new man--I would never stand by and watch something so destructive come back into her life ever again. It's just not meant to be, and this idealized notion that it could be if they just change is toxic in and of itself.

Matthew Pitts That's what happens when 12 year olds with budding and confused identities turn to fandom culture to help figure themselves out (at least i hope it's only 12 year olds immature enough to harass the creators. otherwise some 30 year olds need to get their shit together). There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but the immaturity and lack of understanding of the complexities of relationships and identities starts to represent the audience as a whole and it all just takes on a life of its own. I won't blame someone young and inexperienced for not understanding just what Jasper and Lapis having a toxic relationship really means and how it applies to real life, but I encourage them to pay attention and learn cause the SU crew have something really important to say and they're trying to say it in a way that even young audiences can learn to recognize what a bad relationship is, cause so many people fail to do so until its far too late and someone's already gotten hurt, or worse.

Personally, I ship Lapidot, but I don't hate on any other ship, because imagine the multiverse theory. It basically states that there is a universe for every choice, and whatnot (I'm sorry I can't explain it better), so.... couldn't that be the same with shows and books and movies? And everything else with a fandom? There's a universe where Lapidot is cannon, there's a universe where they're just friends. There's a universe where Amedot is cannon, and there's also one where they're just friends. There's a universe for literally everything!
