At 1:08 a closeup comparison is shown where it appears that the Xbox One X version of the game has a slightly softer look to it. It seems as if some of the filters were dialed back a little bit for the switch version as cuphead looks ever so slightly sharper on the switch version at that comparison point.
"I definitely don't think we are ever gonna be seeing Cupheads on a PlayStation" fast forward 1 year, money makes the world go round, I'll be looking forward to the DF review, lol.
Higher compression on the FMV sequences. They probably didn't bother to compress much at all on the Xbox One version. Even a few minutes of FMV with -low compression can make a huge space difference.
Superb work DF. Cuphead is a sensational game and really does fit the Switch perfectly. I am liking the Microsoft/Nintendo partnership that is going on, hopefully both Ori Games will be Ported next on the Switch.
I think that Killer Instinct is a great game to port to the switch! It doesn't seem too demanding on the hardware and the original 2 games were Nintendo games MK11 comes to switch so I don't see why KI couldn't. It's a nice alternative for those who want something faster and less brutal than MK.
The only time I noticed a difference was playing two player on the switch, the fps would fluctuate especially during the boss fights. Other than that the game runs flawlessly.
The switch version is broken for me, idk why. At the bossfight with the green dragon their are no cloud plattforms spawning when scrolling to the right so its impossible to beat :(
How are you playing through cuphead and still have enough concentration to notice a frame stutter on a particular moment that even the frame rate tools couldn't detect
JamesJose1245 Well they are playing through this version of the game specifically looking for things like this, so they're keeping a close eye out for that stuff.
Eh that's the thing, when you concentrate so hard on enemy and your own movement which is curcial to not get hit in a game like this, then you will be MORE prone to notice something like that.
Great coverage as always by DF. I already bought the game on Switch and played it for a short while before watching your analysis and I wholeheartedly agree with it. However, I have recently started playing 2 play couch co-op and have noticed, what I believe to be framerate drops. I have noticed this on 'level 2' / 'target 2' near the start of the level just before you see the first tree trunk enemies, where there are about 6-8 enemies in screen at once. I was wondering if maybe you could do some further analysis to back this up as I think it will be interesting and beneficial to anybody considering buying this game for local co-op
1:20 Switch looks a bit clearer, why's that? Color wise, I mean. And are the animation updates etc. included into the Switch version? For people who don't know. They updated/will update (?) the animations, and the graphics a little.
How weird would it be if Nintendo and Microsoft teamed up and released a next gen console together? Neither company owns the other, just a huge collaboration.
@@ekopermana7150 Microsoft did still pay to fund the rest of the game. There are limitations to where Studio MDHR can publish their game because of Microsoft.
The stuttering John mentioned is a regular occurrence on my PS4. I dunno why it happens, but it's very annoying when I'm playing a competitive online game.
Awesome game, got the Mac version, and now I'm gonna get it on Switch. (When the physical version drops.) BTW, you guys didn't talk about the slight visual differences, but its all good. I just hope everyone buys it! :P
Minecraft, Hellblade: Senua's sacrifice and Cuphead are all either owned or funded by Microsoft. Remember Fortnite crossplay as well? Yeah, MS and Nintendo teaming-up. We're expecting Ori and the blind forest to be the next release on Switch, then, possibly Super Lucky's Tale after that. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo in return allows MS to complete the GoldenEye re-make for Xbox.
Aside from a slow loading time, Cuphead ran *flawlessly* on my shitty Intel HD GPU laptop, with a Core i3 processor, and 4 Gigs of RAM. So I'm pretty sure a Switch conversion of the game would be more than flawless.
Holy cow! Cuphead finally on Switch! I was thinking about buying an Xbox One back in 2017 just for this game! I think it’s awesome that Microsoft and Nintendo work together. I’m definitely gonna buy this game on Nintendo Switch. Thanks 🙏 for this video DF!
I'm so happy to hear it's a perfect convertion I can't wait to play it. Hey can you guys analyze Hob for switch? As a psa have to say it must be the worst conversion from Panic Button I've seen. It runs looks fairly ok on docked but handheld the resolution and aliasing is atrocious. When I first booted it and the intro played out it no joke looked ps1 level pixelated bad.
If its flawless.. That means it wasn't pushing xbone hardware. I wonder how 360/PS3 would look on it. There isn't crazy lighting o textures. This is not to downplay the actual port. They did a great job! I think Switch version is slower because of all that compression on the file size.

many devs don't use FMV on unity they use crolling sprites , it's faster to load and use less space on disk/memory , beide that unity has a bug when use videos it's cause a memory leak which you can only avoid if you create empty scenes between the video and games which cause more loading times

Speaking of Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier...hmm I'm thinking that would make quite the DF Retro episode..."Sublime 16-bit Shooting Part II"!!
I can tell the difference between 720p and 1440p. It's quite clear.
Higher compression on the FMV sequences. They probably didn't bother to compress much at all on the Xbox One version. Even a few minutes of FMV with -low compression can make a huge space difference.
I would have liked some mention of multi-player. Local only?
Yup
Got this on Xbox...will be also grabbing it on Switch. Bring on that Physical Edition. 😁
This game is a pure art, a lot of effort has been put in these animations.
How can you not tell the difference between the 720p and 1440p versions? The 1440p version is _significantly_ sharper.
I can see it too.
But in the heat of the moment when everything's in motion, it would probably be splitting hairs to tell the difference.
If you zoom in 200%
Let’s not forget the most important part. You can now play as his pal Mugman by default in single-player.
4:15 upper "conveyor platform" glitches
Superb work DF. Cuphead is a sensational game and really does fit the Switch perfectly. I am liking the Microsoft/Nintendo partnership that is going on, hopefully both Ori Games will be Ported next on the Switch.
I think that Killer Instinct is a great game to port to the switch!
It doesn't seem too demanding on the hardware and the original 2 games were Nintendo games
MK11 comes to switch so I don't see why KI couldn't. It's a nice alternative for those who want something faster and less brutal than MK.
I would love to see Zelda, Mario on the Xbox One X.
I doubt that's going to happen. You can dream though 😊
Fat Chance😐😂😂
This won't EVER happen. Anyone who thinks Cuphead is some evidence that it will happen is kidding themselves.
Sorry, seem never happened
The Cutscene is now fully animated? i'm sold and also can someone recorded that and upload youtube (just wondering)
They weren’t before?
yes but for now the developer now added extra feature for the cutscene (i mean't the animation)
They used texture atlases on Switch, rather than spritesheet by spritesheet of a single character, also reduced file size. 7:47, nice dodge.
The only time I noticed a difference was playing two player on the switch, the fps would fluctuate especially during the boss fights. Other than that the game runs flawlessly.
That's great for the switch and the developers . I hope many sales will follow
Physical edition announced with dlc today
Is there a mode to turn off the old film degrading filter? I'd like to experience the visuals in the same way someone in the 1930s would had.
I think there's such a thing in the options.
The switch version is broken for me, idk why. At the bossfight with the green dragon their are no cloud plattforms spawning when scrolling to the right so its impossible to beat :(
Maybe the data is corrupted?
@@ChiefMedicPururu think it was a bug in release version. patch 2 fixed it
Please analyze FFX and FFXII on the Switch
2:11 voice crack 😭😭😭
How are you playing through cuphead and still have enough concentration to notice a frame stutter on a particular moment that even the frame rate tools couldn't detect
JamesJose1245 Well they are playing through this version of the game specifically looking for things like this, so they're keeping a close eye out for that stuff.
Eh that's the thing, when you concentrate so hard on enemy and your own movement which is curcial to not get hit in a game like this, then you will be MORE prone to notice something like that.
Did John hand-draw in some chromatic aberration on his loading timer there?
Great coverage as always by DF. I already bought the game on Switch and played it for a short while before watching your analysis and I wholeheartedly agree with it.
However, I have recently started playing 2 play couch co-op and have noticed, what I believe to be framerate drops. I have noticed this on 'level 2' / 'target 2' near the start of the level just before you see the first tree trunk enemies, where there are about 6-8 enemies in screen at once.
I was wondering if maybe you could do some further analysis to back this up as I think it will be interesting and beneficial to anybody considering buying this game for local co-op
Huge L if they didn't test multiplayer!
1:20 Switch looks a bit clearer, why's that? Color wise, I mean.
And are the animation updates etc. included into the Switch version? For people who don't know. They updated/will update (?) the animations, and the graphics a little.
The update is also integrated into the Switch port.
The switch footage is sharper as it is shown here. Maybe they got some sharpening going on.
They are showing the non updated XB version of Cuphead.
Not a single pink object parried during the entire video, that triggers me something fierce!
(Wait, there's one at 11:32)
i hope this bromance between Nintendo and Microsoft continues
I've noticed the retry judder bug in the PC version of Cuphead on two different computers. Interesting that it also happens on the Switch.
How come i get the feeling MS is going to announce some sort of official partnership with Nintendo at E3 this year?
How weird would it be if Nintendo and Microsoft teamed up and released a next gen console together? Neither company owns the other, just a huge collaboration.
Cuphead is not MS IP, so the developer can release this game on whatever platform that they want, as simple as that
@@ekopermana7150 Cuphead is published by Microsoft though.
@@midasmagnezone4282 wikipedia or other site are exist tho. Really? 4 months and still wrong, LMFAO 😆
@@ekopermana7150 Microsoft did still pay to fund the rest of the game. There are limitations to where Studio MDHR can publish their game because of Microsoft.
We need more games with inspired art styles and not aiming for picture-perfect realism.
I used to play this on the go on my GPD Win.
I think you're the only person who's ever said that.
Now, make a port for PS4. A man can still dream.
Since Sony doesn't want to play nice, it'll never happen sadly.
Maybe someday, because MS is not Cuphead IP owner, so you know just like PUBG
Is the brighter colors on switch (compared to xbox) due to the update that went live for all versions, or is this a switch specific thing?
Aside from a slow loading time, Cuphead ran *flawlessly* on my shitty Intel HD GPU laptop, with a Core i3 processor, and 4 Gigs of RAM. So I'm pretty sure a Switch conversion of the game would be more than flawless.
11:42 Well that comment didn't age well
Can't wait to get the physical copy of this with a actual game inside of it.
I think Switch version is slower because of all that compression on the file size.
sselemaNrM it probably would have been 30fps
Hot damn. A perfect port!
Definitely will pick up a physical copy down the road.
Seem's that all versions of the game got a file shrink... PC version is now 3.68GB from 11GB
So when are we getting the cup head Tesla edition video?
Physical copy? When, where? It's only digital as far as I know. Did you just misspeak at the end of the video or did I miss a big announcement on a retail release?
During Summer, when the Delicious Last Course (hur hur) releases.
@@ChiefMedicPururu well, great, I wasted $20 an a digital copy then. Even though I'm elated about a retail release I'm livid I wasted money on digital.
@@orchNEStra No need to be angry. You still got the game either way and the DLC is both versons anyway.
@@ChiefMedicPururu I appreciate the sentiment but I'm just not a fan of digital distribution. I will happily rebuy the game retail so I actually own it, I'm just angry one of the few times I've broken down to buy digital it turns out it wasn't digital only and there was indeed a retail version coming out and I missed that info.
many devs don't use FMV on unity they use crolling sprites , it's faster to load and use less space on disk/memory , beide that unity has a bug when use videos it's cause a memory leak which you can only avoid if you create empty scenes between the video and games which cause more loading times
now waiting for MCC collection on PC to come out ! Hoping DF will do a vid segment on MCC collection...
*_CUPHEAD IS A UNITY GAME?!_*
yeah, not surprising
Literally anything can run this game man
This video just proved how great Canadians are at making games. I know people are going to start yelling at me well cuphead is made by Canadians mainly from Toronto. Bendy and the ink machine the guy who came up with it is American the company kindly Beast's HQ is in Ottawa Ontario.

This will be your nightmare, Nintendo-ers.
I left XB1 for PS4 and this is the one game i wish I could get, i love the art style so much detail, this game shows stylish beautiful games don't need mega powerful hardware all the time
