We live in Saskatchewan. My wife and I bought an acreage 25 miles away from the city where we work. We commute everyday. That cost is so much. At 1.65 here for fuel it’s been hard to swallow. A lot of people made fun or questioned why I bought my property where I did. And for a lot of the reasons you stated is why I chose mine. Out here to get power run is roughly the same as you. $$$. The property already had a well with good clean water, has power, and it’s also serviced with natural gas. Natural gas alone is worth 25-50g. It’s absolutely crazy. However for us it’s the peace of mind of having a good heat source. It’s also cheap here. We have an addition on electric heat. It cost us 300 a month extra in power just to heat 500 square feet. Yikes Country living definitely has challenges. Our first week in our septic tank discharge pump quit. Guess I was learning how to change that. Our well pump is on the fritz. Guess who learned how to change a well pump. I bought an acreage tractor from a farm auction. Good old ford 8n. Best 1500 dollars I ever spent. Living in the prairies there is an absence of trees. I’ve planted 250 trees this year. I plan on planting that next year and the year after. It’s a lot of work. Lots of grass to cut. Lots of wildlife. Lots of “pests”. I had no idea gophers we so noisy. I will say it has been challenging and it’s been a learning curve coming from the city. I wouldn’t trade it now though. My closest neighbour is 500 meters away. I never hear them. It’s great.
Just saw a video of yours posted on twitter about the cost of living and trust me, I feel the exact same way. Same situation as far as the family and not being homeless etc. but man is it brutal right now.
Came here to say the same. My wife and I both have good degrees in the US but we live humbly and have been through some very lean times. I'm a person of faith but I came here to offer compassion, not a lecture.
Saw you on a random TicTok. From a fellow Canadian, it's nice to meet you. I'm in the Fraser Valley (B.C.) Wishing you all the best throughout these uncertain and challenging times.
Saw your recent TikTok video about despair. Heartbreaking. And yes, it is incredibly so hard to even survive, let alone get ahead these days. It ultimately comes down to the less we are dependent on the System for our basic survival, the better a chance we have at surviving the upcoming things. The System (i.e. electric, water, heat, food, etc.) is rapidly getting more and more closed, controlled and tyrannical. They control nearly everything about our lives. The more self-sufficient and self-reliant we can be, the better. The System (i.e. 'society' and 'government' as we know it) is all going to crash and/ or be inaccessible for many. The only hope of survival is to not be completely dependent on it for our very existence. Stay strong. Keep fighting. Continue to become more self-reliant and self-sufficient without dependency on the 'System', and work toward that. Breaking free of the System at all levels possible, I think, is the only way to hope to survive what's coming.
We have! We live in the mountains and relying fully on solar is not feasible for us. My neighbour has tried it and there's just not enough sun. With that being said, we will likely get a panel or two in the future.
@@homesteadingmillennial5875 I'm from Gabriola and I know the trees can block out a lot of sun. It really depends on how much you can cut back the trees I guess, depending on your land. Or maybe what we need is tree-top solar panels LOL.
I saw a video that has me wanting to tell you we are all living in a unsustainable way this year and things will get better after something snaps. Hang in there and pray. Try not think long term. Justice is coming.
Why all the ppl coming to stay? I just found/ come across your channel and like your work abouts on your land, and the wood burning stove and such. But if there's a specific reason for all this visitation thats cool, but you and your significant other need your own time and space. Just me saying.. Not trying to be rude. Take care.
It is family. During the summer months, we often host quite a few visitors as our extended family lives far away from us. So, they often come to visit during the summer. Some summers are busier than others and it's always nice to see them, but sometimes it can be a lot.

It's super tough, for sure. I know it's tough for everyone and sometimes it just gets overwhelming.

It was very interesting to learn a little about the area you live in.
Thank you! We live in a super nice area. I love it a lot.

Came across your TikTok on Twitter. Just wanted to send good energy and love to a fellow Canadian. Very difficult times...
Did you consider solar panels instead of electrical hookup?

Great information. Thank you

if you have electricitye your not living off-grid.
I never said I was off grid 😂
Homesteads don't have to be off grid to be a homestead
