I entered as a domestic student so unfortunately I don't think I can be that helpful for what you can do to improve your chances, but it sounds like you're already taking the right steps! There are lots of other channels I've seen of people moving to Aus and entering uni that have helpful advice! You may even be able to find someone from your specific country that has done it.
