Yes the Island withdraws are very real. I spent 3 weeks in Hilo visiting family. I didn't feel like i was visiting. I felt home. I have island fever living in Kansas City .
Weird. I'm from LFK. Took some years to get over missing LFK. Though I never stopped missing it, I understand now that the LFK I miss does not exist any longer.
was looking this up cause I experienced this in barbados when i was living there a few years ago.. I was there for 5 months. it's an interesting phenomenon! But to also add, when I went back to New York I had reversed culture shock and was depressed and missed island life! lol!
I lived there for 7 years. I didn't get island fever till the 5th year when I ruptured my eardrum which effected all my water activities. I always tell people if you don't LOVE and I mean LOVE to surf, dive, spearfish, fishing, hiking & accept the local culture, you will get Island fever. Now I'm back in Florida (1hr from the beach) dying to go back to the Aina.
I've been thinking about moving there and if I would like it or not. And I think that what a lot of people don't realize is that you can't just sit on a beach the rest of your life . People need things that give them a reason to get up in the morning and for most of us, it's some sort of work. A lot of our self worth is tied up in our occupations. Kind of stupid unless you are a doctor or a research scientist looking for a cure for cancer but it is human nature.
I never got it. It's the opposite for me. I can miss my immediate family but everyone else I can get sick of. I like islotaltion. Very good for my sanity.
That's why I have to learn how to cook now living on the Big Island. Good video. Realistic view of what it is like living here. I also do like Oahu though. I think Oahu is a lot more cultural and metro if you need some of that every now and then.
one of the best things about Hawaii , is the food. the people, the beach. I had a ball living there, will move back. locals are great if your treat the Island with respect
Thanks Jeff. It's funny. In spite of the photos of the awesome beauty in hawaii, I envisoned myself as a resident, and after living there for, lets say, 2 years into retirement, I would walk in all 4 direcrions and come to an oven and ask myself- "Is this it? Is that all there is to this pkace?". Boredom is a condition you create for yourself becuase of lack of motivation to pursue all that surrounds you. It really is a form of selfishness. And as I have seen on your channel there really is alot that the Islands have to offer to keep one from being bored. Me, I kove where I live in southern Califrornia and have no desirre to live anywhere else. So when we do visit the Iskands soon it will be to vacation only. And we are lookng forward to it!
Haven't seen or talked to anyone in my family in years so that's not a problem for me. As far as running out of new things to do, that happens anywhere. Feeling separated from the majority of civilization? That's a good thing imo. LOL
I think I'd adapt just fine to living in Hawaii. My main hobbies are going to the mall, reading, and going to the movies. And I always shop at the same locations anyway. I hardly ever travel far. Farthest I've gone locally is 20 miles and that was for a job. So being 'confined' wouldn't be a problem for me at all.
I think it is also known as culture shock as people travel long term and find that things are simply different than whatever they are accustomed to. I like your videos. I have spent time on the big island and loved the vast majority of what I saw and experienced. My family owns property there so the the chances that I will return are pretty good. Aloha!
Love your videos!! Can you do a video about real estate buying? Not all moving to Hawaii are broke and looking for a job. I'm sure many wants to buy a house to live in. Some may want to buy and rent out. Can you talk about the prices of real estate on big island?
I agree everybody wants to go home when the money is gone! That's why I think Vegas is such a risk to live there! To be surround by the Ocean and all the Beauty my mind and body would love it! Sure you have to get off the beach and go make some money! And at the end of the day your favorite spot is waiting on you at sun set!
Jeff, hope you see this message. I think I have island fever. Food is nowhere close to being as good as the mainland. The dating scene sucks. I'm tired of shitty customer service. I am tired of overpaying for shit. Did this happened to you on island?
I just moved to Gilbert Arizona which is a part of the Phoenix Valley I'm from orange county California and I completely get it Island fever in the middle of the concrete desert that I'm in and all I want to do is move back to orange county California.
D Browne I just moved to a.z 8 months ago from P.a im sooo bored out here...sick of the scenery already. I miss the city \woods n beaches. I was thinking of moving to maui
D Browne moved to AZ from SF bay area, I'm a positive person but that was the pitts. in Oregon now, much better. Next will be visiting Hawii. AZ just so hate and boring and because of the heat most ppl are tweaked out and angry.
My purpose of going there would only be to isolate myself from society. I have no family to miss. I just want an acre or two where the weather is nice year round, and people don't bother me. To live someplace where I can spend my days gardening and evenings looking at the stars, and being left alone. Alone is good, I never tired of it.
I had the same coming to Colorado. Exact same feeling. Can’t wait to leave these mountains. Wherever you go, you are there

Donnie Mays visiting here or anywhere is not the same as "Living there".

I live in Hilo . From California Aloha

Don’t be fooled. You’ll feel Island fever, but when you go back to the mainland you really miss Hawaii
I agree. After 10 days I couldn't wait to get out.
I lived there for 7 years. I didn't get island fever till the 5th year when I ruptured my eardrum which effected all my water activities. haole boy yeah man florida sucks but its better than most of the other country.
@@thehurricane218 that's pretty closed minded statement. The USA is a really big place.
A friend of mine moved to US Virgin Islands and suffered from this. She moved back after a year.
I've been thinking about moving there and if I would like it or not. And I think that what a lot of people don't realize is that you can't just sit on a beach the rest of your life . Island fever happens everywhere once you leave your hometown and far from family, even if you're not on an island.
Hodge Podge I would agree with that
I never got it. It's the opposite for me. I can miss my immediate family but everyone else I can get sick of. I like islotaltion. Very good for my sanity.
Loved this video. Thank you! Very informative. And yes, it’s what you make of it!
happens when you're short of MONEY
YES! It happened to us and we drove on and now we own and LOVE it soooooooo much!!!!!

Can verify. Knew someone stationed there and they loathed it.

Every word you said is true!!!! I wanna move to the city!!!
I’m feeling like that now. I’m so over hawaii after living here for 18 or 19 yrs
Haven't seen or talked to anyone in my family in years so that's not a problem for me. As far as running out of new things to do, that happens anywhere. Feeling separated from the majority of civilization? That's a good thing imo. LOL

I lived in Miami FL ally life and got island fever when I became an adult. It drove me nuts to live in Miami.Im so happy I moved away

Hey did you see the Video ruclips.net/video/Pc-9ZaIukZ8/видео.html
Thank you for your wisdom
All of these things make it sound like paradise for an Aspie
If you require more nutrient rich food, and cost is an issue, try wildcrafting, hunting and fishing.
My thoughts exactly. Sounds like heaven to me.
Im on Kauai moved here for work and i believe in suffering from this as we speak

must be why everyone goes to hawaii, but moves to the caribbean
I get that living in Wales lol
how on gods green earth does hawaii have to ship in their food. i can understand maybe meat, but it should be a fruit and fish oasis.
Apparently he's never visited a farmers market? I lived on an organic farm delicious fresh fruits and avocadoes as big as your head all year round.
Because the food industry lobbied congress and forced Hawaii to import food instead of being self sufficient.
My purpose of going there would only be to isolate myself from society. I have no family to miss. I just want an acre or two where the weather is nice year round, and people don't bother me. Agree 100%
