“McNamara’s War.” What a disgrace. The defense contractors, Big Oil and Big Banks were going into Vietnam regardless of who the Secretary of Defense was.

"Winning the war in Vietnam should be the number one national priority ahead of going to the moon or anything else" - Fmr. Pres. Eisenhower 1967

This is a marvelous interview that I had no idea existed. (I had not known that Mr. Ailes once hosted such a show). Mr. McNamara sought both to better understand why so many decisions in Vietnam proved disastrous and - despite his protestations - some sort of contrition for making them.

He wrote a book on the subject in 1996 "In Retrospect". Fmr. President Nixon also wrote a book in 1985, "No More Vietnams".

The narrator interrupts FAR too much. It's annoying......You ask a question and then won't let him finish the answer.

NSAM 273 was the result of Pres. Kennedy's order to his cabinet to reevaluate NSAM 263 after he had decided to follow state dept./Abm. Lodge advice to remove Ngo Dinh Diem. 273 and 263 are about the same.

He gets to much blame for the war

Sure he should get the blame. He killed 58,000 American troops and could have cared less
He had no military training at all
Thought he knew everything I served 1 yr in the army with the 25th Infantry Div in Pleiku Vietnam

I got 8 minutes of this. Big mouth Ailes is incapable of letting the guest talk...I do not give a damn what Ailes thought then.
McNamara never had but an interrupted 1 or 2 minutes here and there.
