      Thank you so much for subscribing, greatly appreciated. After I get the settings as best as possible, the software will run itself frame by frame. It takes a fair few hours to get it right, trial and error then the software runs frame by frame until complete. This one took around 30 hours for the software to run plus a couple of hours getting the settings as best as possible. After it completes, I then process it with my laptop to put the parts together. I enjoy the beginning and end but the middle bit is just watching the software do its stuff frame by frame, I don't actually have to watch it but find it interesting, the finer detail comes out on each frame. The end result can be soul destroying when people leave a thumbs down or negative comment, luckily the majority are like you, and I appreciate you very much, thank you :)

    Oh how wonderful to see this so clearly. Thank you so very much. This is a work of great passion in the restoration of one of the greatest times in cinematic history. I love watching everything in a way I never did before which was always a bit blurred.
    You have my gratitude for bringing this magic back to a weary wandering soul just searching for a jewel of a movie and the memories it brought back to me when watching with family who are no longer with us was an added bonus.
    I will now grab more popcorn and watch this again. Looking forward to watching more, take care.
    A Fan of 🎥,
    Ruby.

    I'm finding the process quite fascinating. I used to be a graphic designer for 25 yrs. This is far more intricate but just as satisfying. This is art. Did you mention that you did the colorized version that I saw on here awhile ago? That was also fantastic. You leave us all breathless.
    I would replace my current dvd with this version in a heartbeat. I even went looking for the colorized version on dvd. It's the clarity of the musical notes on the sheet music, the pattern of the fabric curtains, and the scene in the bedroom between the Vera and Lombard that was so painfully dark it was impossible to see you have rendered gloriously clear

      Thank you so much for your kinds words, greatly appreciated. I do enjoy playing with the settings. I don't really include the backdrops and objects in the intro videos of the process, normally only faces and people, but the backdrops and objects are my favourite thing to concentrate on. If you get them right, the faces gain more clarity, the AI facial enhancement then adds the finer details, but does take guess work, so not always perfect. I do enjoy seeing things in the process that are blurred out on the original, I spend hours upon hours looking at the process, frame by frame, for us, it is very interesting!
      I did the colourised version a while back, using a much lower grade GPU. I have had to build up the equipment over time, just wish I had started with the higher end GPU at the beginning but didn't know how the project would pan out, if it would be a success or not and had to use a credit card at the beginning as a gamble, glad I did!
      Thank you again for your kind words and really glad you enjoy the work I do, makes it all worth it, thank you :)

      Thank you so much for your kind words. I do my best but the real geniuses are the people who developed the software. I just press buttons and trial by error, a few stressful moments, have my soul destroyed a couple of times when they don't turn out and end up in the trash can after 2 days of enhancing. All part of the fun lol Thank you for watching :)

    You did such a phenomenal job, there's so many more I would love to watch of the older movies its so hard when they are grainy and blurry to stay interested ohhhhh I hope you do so much more and the old movies I love the old horror or mysteries I prefer black n white it's just become a preference for me. If I may make a few suggestions like. horror express, the satanic rights of Dracula, corridors of blood, gallery of horror, The ghost and the guest, the ghoul, horror of the black museum, revolt of the zombies. Ohhhh there's just so many and you really did a remarkable job. I don't think many people give it a second thought but this is so nice to see the picture so clearly. I hope you continue this!!! It's so peculiar too some older movies the picture is pristine and crystal clear some not good at all then in like the latest 60s-70s it was like all of a sudden all the films are terrible quality. But there's SO MANY YOU COULD REMASTER ❤❤❤

      Thank you very much for a lovely comment and glad you enjoyed it. The black and white restorations are taking around 4 times as long as the colourisations. I am slowly working through the more popular films, should be able to get at least 3 done a week, depending on the time taken. The next one is Terror by Night, I started it yesterday evening, hoping it would be ready for tonight but the AI facial enhancement is taking much longer than expected. If I set it to minimal, faces seem to lose texture, at 80%, they look really detailed but adds a good 10 hours onto each restoration. I will be doing quality not quantity. It has been a learning curve over the last 10 months, I am now thinking of remaking the entire collection with the knowledge I have now. I look back at the first couple of months and the quality in my opinion is not good enough. If it takes 2 years to complete the collection, it will be worth it.

It is one of the more popular films I enhanced in colour but many asked for it in black and white so went ahead and spent a good 30+ hours restoring it into 4K at 60fps. I also used AI facial enhancing to give a little more detail. I'm working on another at the moment, started yesterday evening, was hoping to have it ready for tonight but it looks like it will be another 3 or 4 hours before I can process it and upload it. Anyway, thank you for watching :)

      @@SimonWard1 Thank you for your response and for all the work you've put in enhancing this film. I must say I am not a fan at all of colorizing B&W movies. I do know that there is a percentage of Americans that will not watch a B&W film because "It's too boring." Same with subtitled films. What a pity!!!
      I am a film director myself and one of my favorite quotes is by the great American director Sam Fuller. " Life is in color.. But black and white is more realistic." BINGO!!

    • @janegarner6739
      @janegarner6739 3 месяца назад

      @willieluncheonette5843 . Thanks, I couldn't agree more re: black & white films.
      I've never understood why anyone would rather watch a colorized film unless (maybe) the film is not good to start with & it therefore doesn't have as detrimental effect. But it seems a lot of people prefer colorized films even if it's a masterpiece in b & w.
      I've wondered why anyone would prefer a good-to-great film to be colorized, & I hate to say it seems likely these people are unable to distinguish the subtle ranges between black & white. For the most part, we must learn to see the more subtle range of b & w in films as well as in photos & in drawings & prints, just as we must learn to see a wider range of subtle differences in color. This ability is also partly cultural, as various cultures prefer particular palettes. ( For example, in pre-Col. Mexico, the peoples we now usually call Aztecs favored color harmonies of reds, golden yellows, & turquoise (both greenish & bluish turquoise), while in 16th-19th c. western Europe the colors favored in paintings was based more on other shades of blue & green contrasted with yellows & reds---very roughly stated.
      Before the advent of modern art in late 19th c. Europe, the colors used in art were more harmonious (except for some of the baroque artists), with more primary & bright colors brought in by the Impressionists & others.
      Not that a study of art is necessary in learning to see a wider range of colors, but it helps. Closely observing nature also greatly helps, but in the U.S. today most people live in urban areas rather than in forests or other landscapes, & in most urban areas the palette of colors ordinarily seen is very basic. All this generally applies to black & white drawings, prints, photos, & films---one has to learn to perceive the subtle differences. It's very sad that so many people aren't taught to see the subtleties of either color or black & white, but I suspect this is mainly why many people insist on colorized films.

    good idea. I wonder why 60 frames is considered preferable to 24? blur is a foundation of cinema. is that why the words are not synched to the movement of the lips, an unsettling phenomenon.

    • @SimonWard1
      @SimonWard1  3 месяца назад +2

      Some of the originals are slightly out of sync. I do detach the audio and move it and split it, test the beginning, middle and end, get them as tight as I can. You might notice that some scenes, mostly outdoors and where the actors / actresses are further away from the camera, the more out of sync the audio seems to be. Most of the colourisations are at the original fps. I had a nightmare with one, completely out of sync and wouldn't re-sync, I could sync the beginning but the middle and end was totally out of sync, syncing the middle left the beginning and end out of sync and syncing the end left the middle and beginning out of sync. It all depends on the original copy.

      You need a high end graphics card, minimal of 64GB RAM, 12 Core CPU and around 1tb SSD drive with AVCLabs software. When have that, you also need plenty of patience and time as each one takes up to 24 hours to enhance per 1 hour of film. It is trial and error, my trashcan is always full of films that didn't work out, holes in the walls and a floor damp with tears lol. If any of what you need doing are in the public domain, I can take a look for you.
