This is not a sponsored video, and unless otherwise stated, I bought these books myself.
I love the authenticity of your videos. And thanks for reminding me that I absolutely need to read more Czesław Miłosz
Condolences for your lose. Take care.
At this point i’m happy to watch any video you put out but do you still have any plans to make a video about your thoughts on The Realm of the Elderlings as a whole now that you’re done?
I think I will, but probably closer to the end of the year!
Reading Companion Piece. Ali Smith is amazing…loved all Seasonal Quartet, as well as How to be Both. All the best to you!
So sorry to hear about your family member. And for what’s been going on with Lila. I empathise hugely on both and am sending you lots of love. Hope Companion Piece provides a good companion and gets you back in a reading swing.
Thank you Simon - I've been thinking about poor little Oscar and his donut cone, hope you all are hanging in there :)
Hey Savidge!
Love your channel name.
What is the Marilynne Quote from?? 👀
Also, zero pressure from me to get to At Swim Two Boys anytime soon ❤️📖
It's not attributed to anything on the epigraph page; not sure if it's from a book or a speech!
Ah, that ancient New York mattress proverb.
I agree, why are we all not crying always?
Love your videos and I wish you great luck on your journey to finish a book
Ugh, there is just so much to say and agree with you on the topic of reading and how it makes us ourselves and intentionality that I'm slightly overwhelmed and will just add: MasterChef Australia is also the best MasterChef in the world! How come Australia is so good at these TV formats?
Sending you so much love. (That second epigraph was brutal)
I felt the title of this video in my soul.
Have missed your tender heart.
That last epigraph was beautiful. It expresses what I've been feeling.
My condolences on your family member. I'm glad your kitty is feeling better. I hope you can get back into reading soon.
Sometimes I do force myself to read. I know that if I do so, after a short time I will start enjoying my reading again. Sometimes you just have to push a little. Its the same with everything. Reading is mental health. You should by all means do everything to keep it in your life.
So good to see you back. Sorry about your family member and your mattress. I have an aging cat and a waterproof matress cover has been a worthy investment.
Our lives have stages, but I can so relate to what you're saying about reading making you feel more 'you'. I got out of the habit while raising kids (other than what I read to/with them, just a few books a year for me), and getting back to a serious reading habit was one of the first things I did when they were launched.
I recently read Elena Knows, and it really is excellent, a 5 star for me. I have Disoriental out of the library right now, but haven't started it. Want to get to Grey Bees soon.
I had a waterproof mattress cover until my other cat tore it up! Bad timing all around. I've re-invested in a new one for the new mattress ;) And I love your observation about life stages
anticipate your thoughts on the Ali Smith and Sally Rooney once you've read them
Thank you for the mattress wishes, Jen ^^
I hope you will fly through the Companion Piece and that it will make it easy to pick up the next book and next book and next...
I'm crossing my fingers for Lila recovering smoothly
Yes 🙌 a new video. Sorry for your family member and I am glad Lila is doing much better. I also know how cats don’t like taking médecine so you’re my hero ! I was in a reading slump for three weeks and a half. Job is crazy and I had health issues and couldn’t reading one line and my brain could only watch short videos on RUclips. I finally got a few days off and was able to start reading again with a crime novel. A 700 page read and yes fluidity was a must and then I read … Companion Piece by Ali Smith ! I am looking forward to watching your review about it. But all I can say it was nice to be back into Ali’s world. Now I am reading The Feast by Margaret Kennedy - it’s heavy It’s a slower pace but it’s really good 😊 I have the same Ukrainian authors as you have on my TBR but I need escapism books right now. Oh I read Desorientale when it came out in France years ago and loved it. Take care !
Always lovely to see you. I am truly sorry to hear about the lost family member, death is final and difficult. I hope Lila continues to recover fully and regain her charming self. Love that you settled on dear Ali Smith, I have only read Winter and so I have the rest of her seasonal cycle to look forward to! I passionately agree tears are natural and good. All the best. PS, that last epigraph was particularly wonderful.
Marilynne’s Housekeeping made me weep. I felt that book to my toes. Tge paragraph you read did the same. That lady and her words. Amazing. Maybe I need to try Ali? Thank you.
As someone who also lives alone at the top of walk-up, I feel your mattress woes deeply. But hey, kinda cool to discover when you can do something like move a mattress on your own, eh? Good video, hope you find a good read soon!
Even just seeing the thumbnail made me think Ali Smith would be the perfect one to get your engine started!
Greenies kitty pill pockets! Saved me and my kitty a lot of anxiety.
I WISH that worked for us but she doesn't recognize dry food as food! She'll only eat wet food and wet treats, has been like that since she was a baby
I am so sorry that May was a difficult month for you and so sorry to hear of your loss. Sending you loads of happy thoughts for Lila's speedy recovery (I empathize with sick pets - I have been there many times)!
just bought afropeans and put ali smith on hold (but might just buy it as well). Will look into the rest of the list as well. Always appreciate your thoughts even when your own reading life isn't so good.
sorry to hear about your family loss-I know that one too well.
happy that the kitties are well and that you were able to learn something positive about your abilities out of an (also all too familiar) ugly situation.
never apologies for being you and feeling things. you're one of the realest folks here and, while i'd much rather you be happy, i appreciate that a lot.
hope june is much kinder to you and your home furnishings!
not sure why i'm writing bullet points -i'm going to blame all of today's work meetings.
Bullet points are hard to beat in terms of digestible thought! Thank you for your kindness Stephen, I appreciate it
I want to read the book just based on the epigraph. My goodness! I’ve had Two Boys at Swim on my tbr for quite awhile. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
Ooo! Thank you for reading Disoriental, Twitter friend. I hope you'll love it. Big hugs to you and beautiful Lila. 💜
Tina! Your cats are icons
@@InsertLiteraryPunHere I KNOW, right? 😅
Loved Disoriental!
@@suemassar2147 I'm so glad!
It's good that you are saving Sweet Darusya, Trieste, and Lucky Breaks for later. I read Grey Bees last month and it was excellent. That was the third Kurkov book I've read. The others were Death and the Penguin and Penguin Lost. He's becoming one of my favorite authors.
Grey Bees was my first of his books - which of the other two would you recommend I read next?
@@InsertLiteraryPunHere Read Death and the Penguin first. Penguin Lost is the sequel. These books remind me of Bulgakov--the dark humor, satire and weirdness. And I love Misha, the penguin.
I'm just getting back into reading too. Except, audiobooks are easier to focus on. I've been hesitant for a while to try reading a regular book.
I've never gotten along with audiobooks, except for when it comes to nonfiction I've already read or for particular authors (like Dickens)! I think it's a personal quirk honestly, because even as a child, as soon as I could read for myself I didn't like people reading to me out loud. But who knows - maybe I could look into audiobooks for rereading
@@InsertLiteraryPunHere Yeah. For me it's an ADHD thing. I've come across quite a few folks like me who find it easier to focus on books when our hands are busy.
Hi
I think you'll like Elena Knows.....who dings such a short book??🫣
