Maybe it's meant to represent the crew's stamina? It does sound like a silly idea in a game that revolves entirely around sailing though...

If stamina were consumed when furling and unfurling sails, for instance, that could sort of make sense. Clambering around the rigging and moving ropes around would gradually tire out the sailors, one must presume.
But I'm assuming it's not that, and instead just a dash stamina bar or similar... in which case, bleh.
Excuse me, do you think ships travel through magic? Of course, your crew is constantly blowing wind into the sails.

This game's release is literally the opening of the Black Pearl movie. Depp looking awesome on the mast of a ship, only to be revealed that it's a leaky little tub of a boat that's slowly sinking.
I think that's unfair. Jack Sparrow at least looked cool as his ship sunk.
One of the best character intros of all time.
At least there, there was a good soundtrack.
"AAAA" is the sound of sheer horror people scream when they play the game.

I think it was kick from studio to studio within Ubi. Everytime the scope and vision for the project changed. In the end it was probably only the deal with the Singaporean government, who underwrote some of the cost in exchange for making it there (they are probably trying to kick off a local games industry), that even saw the project released.
I still wonder how Ubisoft screwed this up when Black Flag already gave them the blueprint for this game, & Black Flag came out over 10 years ago!
A different subdivision, I reckon. It's made on Singaporean subsidiaries
@@fraxizztv6433 thing is the singapore studio is credit with creating the naval combat for the AC series including black flag. Honestly if they just took the AC engine and made a straight pirate game without all the AC big picture stuff people would have been happy.

They probably just wasted alot of time with developing multiplayer and microtransactions, forgetting that a game has to be fun to be played 😂. Probably alot of bad leadership decisions

One of the Devs said for us to forget everything we knew about Pirate games, they were right but not in the way they think they are, one think is sure we will forget this "Pirate" game.

Man, 6 years ago people would've laughed if the genuine reaction was "Just play Sea of Thieves". Amazing how the tides have turned.
I love the pets at the end around 5:40 (how you lead into it). Yeah what a shame with this game they'd shoulda just rebooted Black Flag.

My sympathies to the developers who poured so much time and work on this project.
Yeah, the rank and file devs are not to blame. It's either the project manager who made the gameplay decisions or Ubisoft.

Sea of Thieves walked, ran, and soared, all so Skull and Bones could trip and fall down a comedically long staircase
I'm starting to think that Alestorm's 'Shit Boat (No Fans)' was written about this game.
How about an honest trailer on that new Princess Peach game?
There was more content in the closed beta than there is currently on the live game. Also, once you finish with the first guy you get to do it all over again with another NPC that is moderately cool. Then there's the fact that you can get to the best ship/best build within 1-2 days of gameplay. Oh and the fact that the dhow is completely useless and last I heard was removed from the game. Also also, there's tons of ways to exploit all of the pvp events including taking over an entire server so you never lose a helm wager or cutthroat cargo event. Also also also, the hardest content in the game can be solo'd with one weapon from 2km away (twin winch ballista) by simply preventing the enemy from becoming hostile.
Nah, the Dhow is still there and is actually required to be used for some of the missions and to get to some locations, since the passageways are too narrow to use the "normal" ships.
Sorry but this description of the game is completely and utterly incorrect garbage (apart from the ability for groups to basically fully populate a server to render some pvp content trivial)..
I keep thinking the idea of two ships packed with real players manning cannons racing to see who boards the other first should have been a feature of Star Wars Battlefront 3...

The fact that Yves "I Still Have Yet To Take Any Kind Of Accountability Over The Fact That My Company Actively Protected Sexual Predators In Its Ranks" Guillemot had the gall to call this pile of crap a AAAA game is just insulting, especially since the only reason this game actually saw the light of day is because if they didn't release it the government of Singapore would sue Ubisoft into oblivion. Even more mind-blowing is how they managed to screw up such an easy game to make. This was an absolute layup. Here's what they had to do:
Step 1: Take AC: Black Flag.
Step 2: Remove all references to Assassins and Templars.
Step 3: Ship the game.
Would have likely had a GotY contender.
They must have had a managers meeting to discuss how they could possibly f that plan uop.
Please say "Ubisoft, sinking like the ships in its sunk pirate game Skull and Bones".
This has more use as a case study into product development than a form of entertainment

Was so happy I had time to play the free trial weekend, as I got to the largest ship in that time, and really got a feel for why not to buy it, and just play Black Flag instead.
That skelly cat is so cute i'm tempted to just yar harr the game, yoink those assets, and then delete all the other unnecessary files off my computer.

Those pirate cats are the only worthwhile part of the whole game
That, and the theme song, which has the added virtue of one not having to play the game to listen to it.
The only reason Ubisoft didn't cancel this years ago was that they took too much money from the Singaporean government to fund development. They had to release something, or else be forced to repay them.

The only live service game I'm truly enjoying right now is Helldivers 2

Resource gathering and not plundering, what a concept for a pirate game
It’s like Ubisoft Executives said “only put mechanics in the game we can monetize”. And they realized they could monetize so much stuff they had to cut all the content so they could really focus on the good monetization. Like sails. And cat clothes.

The idea of a ship combat game thats a lot like black flag, is a really good idea! But NO BOARDING!? NO SWASHBUCKLING!? What the hell!?
So ten years ago they made an excellent open world pirate game. Instead of taking that, expanding it, and reskinning it from AC to general piracy, they spent a fortune to make a game that does less than a ten year old game, and a feature in several of the recent AC games. How? Why?
Sea of Thieves so much infinitely better.

Skull and Bones managed something no game did before. I read the review from Die Zeit about it.
Why?
They had actual employees from Ubisoft Mainz trying to explain this mess.
Which was funny as heck because they kept repeating that their Studio wasn't directly involved in any of the development of this title as they were busy with their ~8000th Anno.

Hopefully Helldivers will set the bar for modern live service games.
Skull and bones is terrible so im not defending it but my god is Helldivers 2 overrated , its a good game but its the same thing over and over i have played about 20 hrs i dont see how its getting so much praise , gues people are just happy to have a decent game for a change after so many dissapointments
This game was made to take singapore's subsidy money. Money was game industry promotion in singapore but they used it as holiday destination for executives

They could have spent all that time and money rebuilding Black Flag in the Origin/Odyssey/Valhalla engine and adding multiplayer support. That would be an infinitely better game.

A game made by suits instead of programmers. I heard they went from coop PvE to MMO to a few other ideas while the game was already half-done, forcing reworks.
Funny that the released fans is somehow *less* done.
