I’m only 18 yrs old, but everytime I thought about my wedding I never thought of doing any of the Vietnamese traditions. After watching your video I definitely am reconsidering it!!
You definitely should. Too many younger generations are forgetting their own culture and heritage. They’re so sucked in into being Americanized to fit in the American way.
Heyyy as an Chinese-American teen girl, I always complain about not seeing many of us wearing qipaos/cheongsams so I really appreciate this video ! It's great to see us connecting with our culture
In Singapore, “door games” is called “gate crashing” and the groom with his groomsmen have to play games that usually require them to eat weirdly mixed food, dance, etc and they have to give angbaos with cash to pass each stage in order to meet the bride.
As a Chinese adoptee, I learn so much from you all; you’re like the older sisters I never had. Thank you so much!! Y’all are beautiful and those dresses are all stunning. 😍
i felt so part of the group when i pointed to the SAME first choice dress as janet and mel 🥰but i also had a feeling that helen would chose the more traditional one!
Great time !!! This is wharmt we need. And idea that will help us decide the different styles of Chinese Qipao or cheongsam as it very beautiful The culture and heritage is what we must preserved . Though I am a Muslim but influenced and appreciate Chinese culture same with us in our family ,as seemingly this will be helpful in choosing styles . Good that you made it to view this .....thanks ...watching from Davao City , Mindanao ,Philippines
I remember loving my red dress and changed into it throughout the banquet, my family and friends who were not Asian, were fawning over it. It's such a nice touch to honor our culture
I am Chinese Canadian and in my 20s and have been cheongsams/ qipaos for the last 10 years. Some of my favorites are like the psychedelic vintage ones that I find when online vintage piece hunting. I have a curvier body because I'm half french, so now I am trying to learn how to make them myself as having the perfect fit is key. But I would highly recommend that anyone can start collecting them! Some of my favorite pieces were $40 CAD that I got from etsy and just had to make some minor adjustments. I wear them casually with leather jackets and also for special occasions! GIRLS ITS TIME TO START COLLECTING.
Love this!!! Thank you for creating and sharing traditional chinese culture content for the world! It's so nice to see items typically in brick & mortar into the internet sphere. And to showcase our beautiful culture without fetishizing it.
I want to preserve my culture and have a traditional tea ceremony when I get married too. Thank you for making and sharing this content! Will definitely use it for learning and inspiration :)
Love that you shared this process! My mom wore a cheongsam during the reception of her American wedding and I’ve always wanted to follow in her footsteps! 💕
The qipao are all soooo beautiful!!! Wish I had known about East Meets Dress when I got married a few years ago! (Also thought this was so funny bc my wedding gown was backless, but my qipao was more traditional with a mandarin collar and had a mermaid shape.) Loved this video!
My fav episode yet!!! I know this was an ad too but ahh the energy of your girls is amazing. Loved how supportive and awesome Janet and Mel were and Helen looked stunning. Thanks for bringing us along the processs, can’t wait for more
Love this video! Thanks for showcasing this beautiful aspect of Chinese culture. I loved my tea ceremony, it really was a very intimate affair with the elders wishing good blessings and words of wisdom
I’ve been telling my grandparents that i want to get married in a qipao along with the traditional customs ever since i knew what marriage is . Either that or i aint getting married . ❤️
All the dresses were lovely. Thank you for sharing your unboxing and dress-up. I've checked out the site for the wedding dress too, because I've always remembered there's another traditional wedding dress besides the qipao line: the qun kua (most of my friends wore these). Anyway, I actually like the more traditional choice Helen has chosen. The ones Mel and Janet had decided are were definitely gorgeous but the traditional one is just as gorgeous.
Thank you for posting this video! I'm in the process of looking for a dress and have had my eye on East Meets Dress for a while but was never sure about the process. I'm so glad you tried on the dresses and I got to see what some more of them were like on people (looking at pictures is different imo). Thanks again!
the content i didn't know i needed!! i actually was going to wear my mom's old qipao to my high school prom last year, but prom was cancelled.... :'( maybe i'll wear that qipao to my potential future wedding?
These dresses looked great on Helen! So glad that she is able to share the Chinese culture of tea ceremonies with others. I recently had my Chinese tea ceremony too and it was very special to have the two families join together like the girls mention :) Just my 2 cents for those who are looking into buying qipaos through East Meets Dress. Unfortunately, I didn't have the most positive experience with them. They charge at least $75 to try on only 3 dresses, so Helen was lucky to get sent so many dresses. Their sample dresses to try on were also not diverse in sizes and fits more of the petite/small sizes. I ultimately chose not to buy from them due to the high price and fit ): I'm more of a size 6-8, tall, and curvy so I wished their sample sizes were more open to other sizes.
Y'all are so beautiful! Wow, great skin, gorgeous smiles! Also, love the qipaos. We also wear a traditional dress when getting married and parting from your parent's house but it's very different. Indigenous ppl from Southeast Asia.
Thank you so much for this video & the dress site. I just got engaged at the beginning of the year & as an ABC I want to observe a tea ceremony & traditional dress also. So helpful!
Thanks for sharing! I was bummed when I found out a very popular qipao/wedding dress/tailor shop in SGV closed a couple of years ago. I have not started planning my wedding yet, but this is another lovely option to consider! :)
I wish I knew about this company when I got married in 2014...because all the Chinese dresses were blah where I live (would've had to go to another city for better choices, no time for that) so I just for went getting one. I semi regret it now 😭
Red Marilyn! I prefer deeper reds like that. Love the cut from neck & shoulder, very traditional. But the silhouette from waist down with that slit makes it modern. The minimal but perfectly placed embroidery is just enough as an accent to the dress. It's the best one!
All the dress are beautiful. The phoebe one looks gorgeous on you! I love Mel’dress withe the pocket. Where did you get that dress? I want to get that for my daughter. Thank you.
Thank you for the video! Like other followers, I am an Asian Adoptee looking to connect with my birth culture and love to learn from you three :) I am currently wedding dress shopping and love the inspiration.
So pretty, everything looks gorgeous!!! This may sound weird, but I'm always drawn to Asian cultures and their aesthetics eventho I'm 100 % european... maybe I was asian in one of my previous lifes... that is the only explanation I have...
Gorgeous QUEEN❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ ALSO STAN THE 3RD DRESS! this literally makes me feel like a mom watching my own daughter getting married lols Now I know where to order my wedding dress 😌
The hardest part of finding a suitable qipao is making sure I don’t look like I work at a dim-sum restaurant… plus, I don’t have the neck length and body shape that work well with qipao. And it’s expensive to tailor-make a qipao. When I got married, I didn’t wear the qipao/ cheongsam for the tea ceremony. I rented a qunkua/ kwa instead, which is more popular with the Cantonese (mum is Cantonese). The kwa has a very forgiving silhouette - good for me 😅 There was heavy embroidery of gold and silver thread on red fabric, and with the gold jewelry, I felt like an empress 😂 It’s interesting how different Chinese dialect groups choose their attire for the tea ceremony!
Which qipao did you like the best for Helen? 😍🧧
The first dress was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
the first and the third one 💕
Number 3! 💕
The third is my favorite but I also love the red accessory pin with the qipao
Third one (Phoebe) FTW 🙌🏼
No idea why I’m watching this, or how I got here haha. I’m a 24 year old Canadian Polish guy. Extremely cool to learn about your culture 💯
Perfect contender! RUclips algorithm. Lol
@@stoneyjosephine you can if you want as long as you credit the culture, anyone who stops you is an a hole
@@ethanma3916 so true
She is pretty, everything looks nice on her.

Should definitely try it. I'm getting married this year and I"ve placed an order for a wedding ao dai. :)
Oh, please do. The Vietnamese clothing are so beautiful too.
Heyyy as an Chinese-American teen girl, I always complain about not seeing many of us wearing qipaos/cheongsams so I really appreciate this video ! It's great to see us connecting with our culture
@ODELIA . (00000015129) It's traditional wedding dress.
Phil is one lucky man!!!!! Helen is gorgeous in all the dresses omg!!

The Red Marilyn dress was simple but gorgeous, and looked so good on her.
