  • I was very pleased with the Germany and Norway postage stamp mixtures I received from The Stamp Farm (see ep. 19 & 20), and ordered a few more small mixtures. In this video, I examine the Ethiopia mixture I received and see what I can add to my stamp collection.
    Plus, I have a few more stampy RUclips channels to let you know about.
    Will work for coffee: ko-fi.com/tedt...

    I neglected to mention that the 2000 Bushbuck set that was listed for $40 Used, in the 2012 catalogue, dropped to just $12.90 in the 2017 catalogue.

      I really enjoy your channel, Ethiopia stamps. Have you ever thought of using EZStamps software to identify stamps & using to inventory your collection? I am using it to inventory my 21 volume Minkus Surpreme Albums, so far in volume 5 at over 26,000 stamps! Does anyone talk about the real value of stamps? % of Scott’s value or other prices, I know the cost is more than one can sell them for, value is in the eye of the collector.

    Love to watch your presentations. Please make a video about stamp catalogs. What factors, indexes (indices) will play when they price a stamp. It's not an easy task to put values to stamps all over the world from early days to present. Scott, Stanly Gibbons...are their numbers reasonably close or different. Thanks!

    I'm looking for some guidance. I recently started collecting French Polynesia stamps and bought a small collection that contains about 1/3rd of them. Do you recommend using a stamps on approval company for the rest or try buying them from ebay or HipStamp? I'm retired so my budget is not huge. Any and all opinions appreciated. Thanks!

    • @tedtalksstamps
      @tedtalksstamps  3 года назад +3

      I’m not sure if approvals are the way to go, unless you find a dealer who will send approvals based on your want list. If you are on a budget, approvals are also much more expensive than most online dealers, where competition on sites such as HipStamp tends to bring down prices.
      If you go to HipStamp and do a search for French Polynesia with All Categories selected, you can then scroll down, and on the left side under Show Only, select One Match per Seller. Then each of the listings on the page represents one dealer, and there is a line above each one saying ### more from this seller. That way you see which dealers have the largest stock of FP. Good luck in your quest.

      @@tedtalksstamps Thanks Ted. I guess I was under the assumption that the big stamp outfits like Mystic and so on would lower their prices in accordance with the popularity of the hobby. Wishful thinking.

    Overall would you say purchasing mixed stamps are worth it?

    • @tedtalksstamps
      @tedtalksstamps  3 года назад +2

      Yes, but it all depends on where you are at in your collection and what you are looking for. With the Ethiopia mixture, I was starting with very few in my collection, and no recent stamps, as promised in the ad. So I was able to use all the stamps for my collection. I don’t find large mixtures of off-paper worthwhile. There is usually too much duplication, and you can end up with 10 or 20 copies of a lot of the most common minimal value stamps. Off-paper mixtures, almost by definition, consist of the leftovers of collections that have already had the good stuff removed, and junk that dealers cannot sell. On-paper mixtures are more likely to contain better stamps because they have not been in a collection or a dealer’s inventory. A lot of on-paper mixtures consist of envelope cuttings from missions and charities that don’t know or care about what valuable stamps might be on them.
