I rescued one that was drooping and had some bugs in it. Allowed it to go dormant, dug out the bulbs to clean and dry and saved them in dry soil over the winter. I almost gave up as it got warmer. I gave a few spritzes of water to keep moist, not wet, as I tried to use the soil to propagate another plant. Lo and behold, it's come back beautifully! The little propagation has been relocated, but my caladium is back. All indoors, btw, and safe from any new bugs. I assume it might go dormant again in my conditions for winter since it occasionally dips below 60 even indoors and gets very dry. Still worth it for this beauty.
I have a caladium just like that it has gone dormant twice over the last three years... I left it in my laundry room and completely ignored it... in the early spring it always comes back... it is more beautiful every year.. do not worry when it goes dormant... it will come back

I have a couple of lechuza clasico LS 35 potted plants and have noticed some roots growing out of the bottom and reaching for the water in reservoir..... are those roots at risk of root rot? should I cut them back? Thanks for your help!
Hi! I hope you like these planters! There is no risk of root rot. Yes, you can prune back the roots. This is another reason why the Classico model is great! Green Luck! 🌱
This Vid was two years ago. How did it go with the Caladium, did it go dormant? In the tropics where I live this plant can go dormant twice, sometimes three times a year. Most often it starts growing at the beginning of the rainy season (summer), however when it gets very hot and dry later in the growing season which can happen during a dry extremely hot "tropical depression" for a few weeks (weather phenomenon) it goes dormant, then it comes back when the rains start up again then goes dormant in the cool or dry season when the temps are warm but there is little rain. It's quite sensitive to weather patterns so IMO not a terribly reliable foliage plant as such but a pleasant surprise to see happening when it decides that the conditions are right. Unfortunately if you water it when it goes dormant it can rot, watering it wont stop the dormancy either, seems to be more to do with the heat, so when dormancy is triggered best to leave it alone and completely dry for a few weeks or month, I'm not terribly sure.
Hi! Thank you for sharing + a very useful info. Unfortunately, I have not succeeded with growing this beautiful Calladium in my apartment. :( I don't think the NYC environment + being indoors is what this plant likes :) Green Cheers! 🌱
I am so jealous 😀 My plant did not come back, and when I tried to check the root system to make sure they are in a good shape, to my surprise I did not find any... Hi! I am still learning the Caladium language. :) Overall, the plant is doing well. I do have a few drooping stems too. I feel that it is related to watering. I know it does not like it's soil to get dry and needs consistent watering but, at the same time, I have to be careful not to overwater it. 🤔 I am still working on establishing the proper frequency :) Now I test the soil weekly and water it when the soil is dry just 2-3” deep. I have North-East exposure. At the moment, watering frequency is once every 10-14 days or so. Plants that get lots of bright light need to be watered more often. The amount of water per watering should be enough to reach the lower roots. ***Do not allow the plant to sit in water. A saucer should be free of access water. Plant needs good drainage and a fair amount of soil around the roots. The plant should be potted in a larger than original container pot - WITH DRAINAGE :) North exposure might be not sufficient for these guys. They need bright indirect light. Adding a grow light will help! 🤞 If you figure out why your plant is droopy, please let me know. Together we might nail the care routine for our Caladiums better 😃🌱
