SWAM user here. It is a fabulous approach to music production. Although I have no music production expertise or formal training and cannot play a keyboard well, I can compose compelling sounds for scoring with this plugin for our documentaries at affordable prices (we cannot afford live musicians; we are not in Hollywood, we are in Washington DC). It is like playing real string instruments. You cannot make mistakes, and you don't have to go through a steep learning curve to play an instrument. You don't need to be a pro like Anton, and 99.9999% of people will never know that the sounds were created with math. No crazy sample loading times. No time lags. You press a note, and you hear a great sound. Audio Modeling has democratized music production and scoring, eliminating the entry barriers to professional music production. It is fun to see Dr. Mix in this role. Clever marketing by intelligent people. You don't need to worry about convincing me further, as I already have the plugin and we use it for documentaries. Love it!
definitely more of this it’s really cool seeing behind the scenes how people use tools like this! - Now all we need is a horn section woodwind section and percussion section then we’ll have a full orchestra
To me building sections out of solo instruments works great with all SWAM winds. Make sure to change the instrument in woodwinds and the anti phase setting with the brass. I also recommend to introduce a slight delay for instruments higher then one and change some other settings like overall pitch. If you increase those values you can build a great school band 😂
Hi everybody. I went all in with the SWAM springs and they replaced everything i have. BUT it’s by far more powerful than showcased in this video. First you should always build your sections with several divisi sections. My first violins are build out of 3 of the smallest divisi sections plus 1 Solo violin (if you have them). I changed vibrato rate, tremolo speed, master pitch and accuracy in each section. As well as the expression curve and the portamento speed. In Vienna Ensemble pro I grouped them to one midi Chanel. I mostly use them in Dorico. Here you can adjust all the settings to match any articulation. So when I notate „sul pont“ the settings in SWAM go like described in the video (bow position near the bridge and bow pressure very low). I have different settings for spiccato, staccato and staccatisimo. Also for most cases I assigned vibrato intensity to the same controller as expression. My sections now sound so rich and powerfull. My east West Hollywood strings sound weak in comparison. But when I need chamber strings I just mute two of the divisi sections. BTW: I recently discovered how to make runs and trills sound outstanding: I applied a 30ms and 40ms delay to the 2. and 3. divisi sections that I go 100% wet during the runs and trills. Bow pressure all the way up. It’s outstanding how you can even hear the transition between the strings. There is a thread over at vi-control where I have a short demo, if you are interested. The only thing that is really missing (sound wise) is col legno. Which is a shame since I love that sound. Also snap pizzicato sounds poor. I now hope for a fast integration of gpu audio and a pro swam string section that is build of only models of the solo strings. And maybe more “washy” transitions in the default sections during runs and trills, so I can delete my “workaround-delay”
Yeah! we can go really deeper but we had the privilege to interview and meet very busy composers so we had to hi fast. There are other episodes coming and much more! We will surprise you for sure.
Many respects for the work as well as opinion i am myself see no future in keyswitching workflows and layering of multiple articulations. But why not using Noteperformer AI with the Playengine for Vienna Synchron or BBC Orchestra Pro. Because writing music in Dorico Pro in Combination with Cubase 14 would save alot more on inbetween changes and tests and slot of work on the arranger side?

SWAM Instruments is the best at this!

No Memory but cpu. Sounds good, though.
