The cup isn't for yanking out the surrounding disk, but apply the suction with the mini-pump when the cup is seated. The inner disk is thus popped-out. If you're pulling on an outer disk you're also risking pulling and shattering the entire pane. The surrounding suction disk on the other hand is clamped and stabilizing the surrounding glass while the suction itself is doing all the work of popping out the inner disk. Then, as Jamie demonstrated (with the broken-up hole) you reach through the little hole and open the inner door handle.
@@-danR makes me think that holding the to-be-cut-out disk with the suction cup, then cutting around it through the entire glass pane. No sudden break, cust a clean cut through.
I always thought the point of the magnets in the air ducts, like the lights on the sides in the clip would indicate, were electromagnets, and thus you wouldn't get a massive "KUNG" when you stuck it on, but could place it against the metal and then turn it on to make it stick. It probably still wouldn't have been quiet by any means, but it's always bugged me that they tested permanent magnets when the example clip clearly used electromagnets. Also isn't the point of the suction cup to stick to only the part you want to pull out so that you can, y'know, pull it out? By making the circle smaller than the suction cup, you're pulling on all the glass surrounding the circle as well, meaning that circle's going nowhere! I always thought they should stick the suction cup on, cut around it, and then pull.
you can make the magnets a lot quieter. but the act of placing them against any vent will make a hell of a lot of noise. adam showed this. his system was still loud due to the very act of moving around
@@group555_ I think to reduce noise a better option would be 2 pointy sticks. Running them across to opposite corners would greatly cut down on noise, most of which comes from flexing the giant flat sections.

So in order to break in and steal your target you have to - be a world-class freeclimber - have a mirror frame on finely-adjustable stilts - night vision goggles - a friend outside who will disable electricity for 30-60 seconds to cut off the lasers for the reset
The mirror setup was interesting, but it basically requires a break in the system. Like a moment where the beam is off for some reason. But then they could obviously just pass during that moment. What about glass fibers? Bending the beam.
a glass fibre would still face the same main issue. it would be easier to set up but it won't work unless you get both ends aligned with the sender and receiver in less time than it takes the sensor to realise it's been broken. they have the essentially both slide into place perfectly in sync. the alternative would be blocking less probably less than a mm and then aligning the other side with the same amount and repeat this till you have the whole thing covered. human just aren't precise enough or quick enough to redirect it
@@group555_ if the two sides of the gap are adjustable, you could close the gap to flush when you are getting in place and then move them apart so you can pass through.
I feel like NVG's would work against a real world system, as they all use infrared and so does a a NVG headset, on top of that it needs to be a completely dark room though, at the end of the day you are looking trough a camera and all cameras do some kind of "brightness balance" to not oversaturate, wich in this case made it so that the holes in the walls drowned out the little bit of IR in the red lasers. Thanks for uploading another one of the best episodes! 👍
The suction cup method of getting through the glass could have worked but they did it wrong. The cups were far larger than the circle they cut. A better technique would have been to suction the cup to the glass then cut around it, then pull. Although with it being laminated, well that might have caused some issues anyway.
32:23 is he serious? i've done it myself, glass cutter is real. this is the biggest joke i've heard. you just have to cut multiple times, you can't do it in one circle, but you can do it in mulitple and instead of tapping with solid object, put some cloth between and gently tap. it takes much longer than in movies, but it's 100% possible as i have done it myself. probably took me 2-3 minutes, i cut the circle several times and put more pressure on it, then put suction cup in middle and start tapping on the cup itself, it'll eventually pop out perfectly.
Before I started at my current job, they were robbed during a weekend. Someone managed to sneak in via the downstairs restaurants vents, stole a few laptops, and got out the same way. I can tell you that the low value of those laptops cannot have been worth the smell of those oily ass ducts.

Why is she slightly jiggling her hand like that? Is she losing vision? If she is trying to see something, why is she in the dark? So many questions.
I'm to this day surprised they didn't go for electro magnets. That's what Colin Furze did with his magnet boots and it's probably going to be quieter. Power will be a challenge though.
I have a stupid idea how to climb went without noise 😂 tiny stool, sheet from plastic or wood but it must hold your weight, and then expanding construction foam which will be poured through hole in that sheet. The foam expands and hardens, slowly lifting you up 😂 gosh, would love to try that! It might harden too fast and won't allow more to be poured under, or it will seal the hole with no way out back. But would be fun.
If the duct is slim enough, you could just wedge yourself in. Back on one side, hands and feet on the other. Might need gloves for enough grip, but that should work. If it's wider, one foot and one hand on one side, the other food and hand on the other.

Taping the knife to the sensor worked in the end. And the movie scene looked like the gum did the same. But gum is simply too soft to stay together. But the system controlling something like this ought to be air gapped and have physical security policies in place to protect against tampering but if you are investing in a security system like this and don't have at least one cybersecurity expert at least consulting on the design of the backend to ensure that it is not vulnerable to physical or software attacks on the backend you would be asking to fail.
