I appreciate videos like this a lot. Cleaning up and fixing older electronics of mine has been a relaxing escape lately, but some things like stickboxes I'm not very confident at disassembling so it's great to see a demonstration up close
Thanks for the repair. I have a couple controllers that haven't been taken apart ever. One has a loose stick and the others I'm not sure. Gonna try and fix all three this week.
I just tried this but when I reassembled the controller I noticed I couldn’t move vertically. Do you know why? Edit: It was because I reassembled the stick box incorrectly. It works now.
Thanks i fixed my huge joystick drift to the right. However it's a bit late responding to the directions now. Maybe I used to much grease. Hope it will be over in some time.
I have a type 1 stickbox and definitely dont have the tools for soldering and desoldering. Is there a way to just clean the inside of the stickbox without taking it out ie spraying some cleaning solution is there? Im hoping this will fix my gummy left analog stick which doesnt seem to register more than one up directional input
i have T1 mechanisms and i accidentally snapped a potentiometer case in half in the upper part, it reached the brown part. is there a way i can fix that?
Whenever I take apart my GameCube controllers, the z button isn’t as tight and clicky as before disassembly. Any ideas on how to fix this/make the z button clicky and tight again?
i recently purchased a GC controller from ebay and everything works great except for vertically up on the stick. it just doesn't seem to have the full range that the other directions do and so sometimes Link (playing OoT) walks when i want him to run. Down, left-right work fine. is this something i can fix without complete disassembly? i don't want to desolder the box from the mobo so that i don't screw anything up. i already did a basic cleaning of the entire controller using isopropyl alcohol when i first got it. thanks edit: i did some fiddling around and tried it with the controller shell off and it works fine. it seems that the problem is the joy stick itself not being able to go fully forward as it hits the controller shell. not a problem with anything electronic or with the stick box. not sure how to fix this
don't need to desolder the stickbox if it's a T3 as shown in this video. otherwise there's probably some physical junk in there you need to clean out or maybe the potentiometers need replacement (which would require a solder job unfortunately). best bet for a first thing to do is follow this video if it's a T3 though
After reassembling the stickbox it feels mushy and clicks when I go up or down on my control stick. I'm unsure what the issue is since I followed your video and assembled the stickbox exactly how you did it. Not greasing might be the issue but I'm not entirely sure.
nice work, Savestate when you release a spring in a stickbox, please be careful to the direction of parts. Upside of spring-holder jumps into your face. That was R E A L L Y D A N G E R You should hold downside horizontally and spread sideways. It is a little safer.
after taking it apart and putting back in, the stickbox seems like its looser and doesnt move as well like it doesnt't do diangles well? Also I used a lube that I used for my rubiks cube and it was real weird gotta buy that lube
umm I don't really know the exact details to the lube, but yeah they definitely were not good for these I guess why the stick wiggles around left and right too much is just be resembling it badly?
nah sounds like you have an old t1. cleaning it wouldn't do much for it you should replace the stickbox with a t2 from a new, old-packaging style nunchuck i go over that in my "replacing a t1/t2 stickbox" video here: ruclips.net/video/cYSvnG0sSBk/видео.html
@@Savestate ok. So it depends on how old/new the nunchuck may be, since it can potentially be a type 3. Last question, i have a third party Gamecube controller, which I’ll consider the “donor”, that stick box should automatically work on the Wavebird correct
You mentioned greasing the stickbox, in the past I've just popped the cap off the stick and sprayed silicone lubricant in while moving the stick around. Do you think that's good enough or even does anything? I always feel like it helps but it could just be placebo or something.
if you have pode that currently prevents snapback , replacing them will reintroduce snapback. in that case i would recommend installing a snapback capacitor after the new pots
@@Savestate Ah ok thanks, was it that one for both or did you use another model as well? The problem with my controller is that the horizontal movement doesn't function properly, when playing Smash Bros

could be too much grease, might need to wipe some out if so

you’ll need to resolder on a new pot. either from another controller or wii mote nunchuck or from a wii classic controller

hey i have some T2 stickboxes i wanna disassemble and clean, but there are no holes at the bottom that i can stick a flat head into

sounds like some gunk might have gotten loose in the area, try cleaning the area with a brush or toothpick
any fix for a stickbox with a large deadzone? gotta get a smaller screwdriver b4 i can see if cleaning it helps.
it won’t help unfortunately, the deadzone is due to overuse and is not reversible
@@Savestate alright thanks luckily i have a couple spare from broken controllers
When clamping the stick box back on how come mine won’t clamp back in
That’s because you have it set to m for mini when it should be to w for wumbo

greasing is REQUIRED and ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY
@@Savestate Good to know. Should I also grease my triggers as well?
@@TonicGaronot necessary unless they’re really bad
its ok if i use a little bit of oil instead of grass?
no
what is the benefit of greasing the parts?
it's a requirement. if you don't, they'll wear down extremely quickly and basically become unusable
@@Savestate Thanks! Also, is this recommended in your opinion on all the buttons or C stick stick box?
the buttons don't need to be greased just the stickbox

Do other greases/grades work? I have lots of grease for keyboards and some silicone lube for some 3d printed stuff
silicone based works but too thick and it can really mess with it
I've had my GCC since 2001 and the stickbox feels loose. Will cleaning it and or adding grease stiffen it back to its old glory days? Thanks.
