I'm not even a fan, but it does sound like they keep falling in reverse by every single release they put out🙃 The fact that Luke Holland and Jason Richardson is in there doesn't help the song justice either😭
@@GuyWhoLikesTheSnarkies1435 not fighting ya on this one, cuz i get it... but not gonna lie the stuff they've been putting out recently is some of the best ive heard from them, i really like it, my big brother loves the band and introduced them to me, he was an emo kid with the hair and everything lol i was too young but im 23 now and most of my music taste consists of people like Guardin, Convolk, Juice WRLD, Lil Peep, BMTH, Sticky Fingers, Skegss... i have weird taste i guess (edgy Australian youth lol) but mostly love anything emo adjacent i guess... idk everyone got an opinion man, just wanted to say that, cheers.

Anthony, allow me to school you on some things since me and Arooj are both Pakistani. Like first and foremost - India/Pakistan are located in South Asia lol.
(South-East Asian = Thai, Malay, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Filipino - like bruh look at a map)
Onto the music - the type of music Arooj makes is very heavily inspired by Sufi music - its a poetry-and-chant inspired form of music that originated in Pakistan (namely from the belief system of Sufi Islam and the use of art and music as a form of worship), which mainly took root in creating the genre of 'qawwali' - a form of poetry that was popularized by vocalists like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen. Even artists like Jeff Buckley & Peter Gabriel have been vocal in the influence they got from listening to qawwali music.
From there, the band Junoon translated that vocally-driven South Asian qawwali sound into rock music - and from there acts like Strings, Fuzon, Entity Paradigm, Mekaal Hasan Band, Call The Band and artists like Atif Aslam, Ali Azmat (vocalist of Junoon), Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Qurutul Ain Baloch, Ali Sethi, and of course - Arooj Aftab emerged.
I think you have some of your geography and some of your influences when it comes to music from the Indian Subcontinent kinda mixed up, and ngl its kinda painful when you make those mistakes 😅
I'm Indonesian and I can totally confirm your response here w/out having to listen to her music at all. I feel like he might be trying to say something more in line with "Eastern South" or "South-Eastern", which either way is still pretty inaccurate nonetheless. Anyone can just hit a piece of Balinese Gamelan or Sundanese Angklung music to Qawwali and immediately recognize the difference. Anyway, this is the first time I learned about Arooj Aftab and now I'm interested in digging more of her music🥰
