- My high school experience has been generally like most kids if you just add in a lot of unexcused absences and a bit of a double life due to my musical pursuits. Regardless, I think the feelings that come along with the end of your senior year are probably universal. It’s both an ending and a beginning all at once. My life and priorities steadily veered away from the classroom and into my music throughout my high school years but the people and memories from my time in school will remain precious.
I hope that this song and video capture the mixed and sometimes opposing feelings that come with graduation. I will miss some things, be very happy that some things are finished and while I can honestly say I’m optimistic about what’s next, there’s no escaping that growing responsibility will be part of it. I’ll be happy if the song and the video make some people smile and others emotional as long as it makes a few of you remember the exciting, scary, happy, sad, unknown feelings that reflecting on Senior Year has been for me. I’m 18 years old and I’m a professional musician, songwriter & artist based out of Nashville. I play lots of instruments but the ones that I’m hired to play most often are drums, cajon and bass. I’ve been posting music related videos on RUclips since I was 9 years old and began playing professionally at 14. I’ve always loved music and I’m grateful that it’s also become how I now make a living. This channel started as a combination of my fascination with drums and RUclipsrs and it’s now turned into a much larger music and music business diary. I turned 60 this year and unfortunately found out I don't have the time I thought I had left. Cherish every moment you can. Live YOUR dream, no one else's Mia. These lyrics reminded me a little of Guitar Great John Mayer's tune about, "I'm gonna run thru the halls of my high school. I'm gonna scream at the top of my lungs, There's no such thing as the real world. Just a lie you've got to rise above.". I wish I would have known this in high school. Follow that dream Mia, with every ounce of spirit you have, love the people around you and keep up the good fight. Wonderful video and song!

@@miamorrismusic i am a drummer too MIA but I am in my prime 49 going 50 I am gonna retire at 51. Too many injuries of me….i have been drumming for 37 years. Good luck in your music I wish I can keep going pass 51 but I probably won’t. Rock on.

Just. Wow. Great song! And, yes, 50 years ago this month I was preparing, as you are now, for my high school graduation. I knew I would be leaving home right after, to go on the road as a working drummer. I, too, had gigged throughout my h.s. career. I, too, was excited, scared, happy, sad, all the things you now express that you are thinking and feeling. That's about where the similarities end, Mia, for you are much more talented and creative than I ever hoped to be. Congratulations on your graduation, best of luck throughout your life, always work toward your dreams and you will see them come to pass, don't let the industry consume you and know that there are many who are praying for nothing but the best of everything for you. What a beautiful song Mia. I graduated a long time ago in 1985 and I still have happy and sad memories. Some happy to be moving on but sad knowing I would miss friends. I remember my 8th grade graduation in 1980. Most of us sang schools out by Alice Cooper at the ceremony. Then in 1997 green day came out with good riddance. I always thought that was a great graduation song as well. Now in 2023 you have senior year. I hope it is loved as the other two songs above. I thought it was quite nice.

Mia my dear....you are already leaps and bounds ahead of most in your age group (no surprise to you I am sure). You already have gigs, income, a name and a brand, AND have hit the national stage (AGT). I know high schoolers...some can be petty and jealous instead of simply being happy for you...I hope you are their inspiration if nothing else and can see the 'impossible' is possible. With all of that and the 'unexcused absences' I'm sure you'll do well in the last year of the HS gradebook, but that rarely confines you to a limited future. Enjoy the fruits of your labor, your "Future's so bright you need to wear 'heart shaped' shades"!

Its been a while since my grad (1966), and then because of Vietnam, I really didnt have the option to take a break after high school, so if you have the opportunity, take a break and decide what it is you really want to do....DO IT! Looks like you're all set with your career choice :) !! This June 2nd will be 45 years since I graduated, I've had several careers, just couldn't see myself doing one thing for 40 years. I kept up with 3 guys from high school, 2 of them are gone and I hardly see the 3rd. Life is a roller coaster. After you've made your first million, find yourself a cabin in the woods, save as much as you can and take care of your body. You're gonna do great and I'll always be looking forward to your next video. Cheers !!

There is something very No Doubt about this, which is way cool. I loved No Doubt back in the day. My senior year, I was in charge of organizing what you'd call Senior Prom, and believe me, there was nothing Mean Girls about it. It was more Jawbreaker than Mean Girls. You know, the movie with the dead person in the trunk of a car. I didn't do it. Great song, as usual. You're the goods.

I know the feeling because I had no idea what to do with my life after High-school. I finally chose to sort-of follow in my dad's footsteps which looking back, was probably not the best choice for me (don't worry, my life turned out very good anyway). Senior Year, a bluesy ballad with complex chords expressing pressures of young people transitioning to adulthood, which seemed so far away, but now hits you like a ton of bricks. I like it.

That’s a nice song Mia. I remember being 18, leaving high school and going where ?? … College for me, but somehow I think you’ve gotten a college apprenticeship already Mia. Can you imagine all the things you’ve experienced since beginning high school ?…..Wow ! , and yet ur still only 18. You’ve become a bad ass without intention. 😎 Take all your experiences good and bad thus far, keep ur real friends, put it all in your pocket, and walk on MM. I’m old enough to now know, that it’s not how long you live, but ‘but how you live,’ that counts the most. And stay ‘child like’ not ‘childish.’ The 1st will leave you open to new learning, experiences, the 2nd will literally stunt ur growth. When I was a high school senior, our anthem was We Got to Get Out of This Place by The Animals. For some it was School's Out Forever by Alice Cooper, or Another Brick In The Wall by Pink Floyd. Let's hope your anthem becomes a cliche as well.

Love the voice change around 50 seconds. Before that the song was quite relaxing but 18 is the age when changes occur that affect the rest of your life so a more aggressive vocal was quite appropriate.
It totally has nothing to do with the song here but I have no idea where to put it so I just took your latest video. I stumbled on an old song mostly famous by Santana. It is called "She's not there". I wish when you had a little spare time if you could bring your version of this song. Rock it up a little. I was looking for covers of this song hoping for a more todays version but could not find any real good ones. You just popped into my head as the one who could do this song and make it fresh and new to this era again. Just a thought :) And if you score a hit with it, you don't need to thank me.
