Viggo Mortensen’s Pet Duck | CONAN on TBS
/ teamcoco
Viggo is one of my favorite humans. My grandma worked at an airline and talked to Viggo a number of times. He never accepted any upgrades in his flights, always insisted on flying coach and not being treated specially. Humble man.
He's so genuine and humble, amazing person.
Viggo: That's my duck !!
Viggo's mom: That's dinner
I think Mr. Mortensen is the most fascinating individual in show business.
he speaks 6 languages
probably because he tries to stay out of the show business nonsense
if he only a clue how big part he plays in my childhood.. I literally spent 10 years swinging sticks in the air because of him..
4 years later he’s released his directional debut with this exact story and im just so proud of him 🥺
"for frodo"
MetrazolElectricity elevensies?
I dont think he knows about second breakfast.
Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn't he?
bluminhio I wouldn't count on it.
You called?
Legolas in Rivendell: "This is no ordinary Ranger!! He is Aragorn, son or Arathorn....and that is his duck...."
Viggo... JUST ACCEPT THE COMPLIMENTS...
He cant cause he is a Viking we don't digest compliments very well. Alkohol sure but compliments Are a vein mans endevour.
He's too humble 😁
I would love to like your comment but I don't want to ruin the 87 likes which is Aragorn's age at the time of the War of The Ring hehehehe
he's painfully humble awww

Did anyone else imagine Strider sitting in that dark corner of The Prancing Pony with a duck on his shoulder?
I would personally imagine the duck kind of stuffed into his arrow quiver, with either head or tail feathers sticking out the top.
Or being crowned King Elessar with the duck in the background
It's funny that they brought up Lord of the Rings as being fake, because someone accidentally threw a knife at Viggo while they were filming a fight scene. He deflected it. With his sword.
He also sprinted across New Zealand's terrains with two broken toes and all of his Aragorn gear.
@@DoctorMcHerp No way i'm believing any of these.
@@ahmetkurum4114 It's literally in the BTS footage in the extended edition of the LotR DVDs. The actors made these claims themselves, lol. The trilogy was full of injuries on set.
When Sam goes into the water during Fellowship to chase Frodo in his boat, Sean Astin stepped on a piece of glass that cut his foot really bad.
In Two Towers, when Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas were sprinting across Middle Earth to find Merry and Pippin, Aragorn had two broken toes, Legolas had a cracked rib, and Gimli had dislocated his knee prior, and even loses his shoe while he's running.
The toe thing is even more awesome once you find out the story behind it. They filmed the scene where the hunting trio go to the burnt bodies that the Rohirrim piled up after their night raid on the Uruks, and when the trio is led to believe that the hobbits are dead, Aragorn lets his emotions out and kicks a helmet.
Peter Jackson wanted Viggo to kick the helmet as close to the camera as possible, but Viggo kept missing, so he had to kick it over and over. On the very last kick, he gets it, but that's when his toes break, so the scream he lets out as he's dropping to his knees is out of pain, and that's the cut they use for the movie.
Everyone thinks that Viggo had adlibbed and extended his scream, and they don't find out about his broken toes until after he tells them. Viggo could've stopped the scene as soon as he felt the pain of breaking his toes, but instead he used it to further bring out Aragorn's emotions.

Why? It's true. Watch the extra footage on the DVD's. Both of those people's comments are true.
Elijah Wood's Hobbit sized double told Viggo he couldn't swim while they were canoeing down the Anduin.
Viggo woke the Fellowship cast up early to go fishing, they also went camping.
Viggo broke a tooth filming the Battle of Helm's Deep and had to be convinced he needed to see a doctor rather than continue filming.
Viggo would greet other members of the cast, particularly the Fellowship and stunt team, by headbutting them.
Legend
Aragorn son of Arathorn
High king of Gondor and Arnor
You owe him your allegiance
This dude deserved an oscar fo eastern promises
absolutely
He is just driver.
My hero Aragorn
Driver
Vigo is great we all love him but he is not the best to be interviewed. Conan does great work
At first I was like - he must be joking. And then I started noticing little things he'd add to the story and the ending, so I kinda came around to it. And then I realised it was Viggo freaking Mortensen and I completely believed in this story
Yeah, it happened in Argentina (he lived here from 2/3 years old to 11), and he told the story in several interviews for our TV shows.
He still looks so gorgeous it's actually rather triggering. Add to that his gentle manner and his intelligence = boom *swoons*
yeah, he's perfect
can't believe he's almost 60 years old, looks like 45, tops. danskjävel!
G Hagström haha! Sant!
of course, he is a dúnedain
Svenskersvin!
I think he looks like the most Swedish looking guy ever.
@@linajurgensen4698 He looks danish :)
He's one of a few individuals in Hollywood who's actually educated, genuine and has his own point of view, not a cluless clown like the majority of celebrities.
Much Respect to him 🖖
Viggo, thanks for not becoming a serial killer
1:30 His laugh is infectious but in a good way! 😄
Viggo is always wearing San Lorenzo's colors, you gotta love this man.
"That's my duck!"
"That's dinner."
"......That's MY dinner!"
Richard Attenborough: "If you listen _very carefully,_ at 1:29 you can hear the rarely captured LOL of the Viggo..."
Pretty sure you meant David Attenborough. He is the wildlife guy. Richard is his brother the classic Filmmaker.
How humble is Viggo Mortensen? SERIOUSLY!
There is nothing like a man's love for his duck
He's so rugged
He's so serious that it's kinda funny
This man was my childhood hero...and still is today.
I admire viggo. Very smart man. He speaks full epañol with argentin accent. + he speaks 7 languages.
It's so cool that he used this story in "Falling"
If Mel Gibson ever makes that Viking-movie, I think Viggo should have a big part in it! I miss his the Aragorn-hair ;)
Mickey Holmgaard with a cameo from that Hemsworth joker
But I don't miss Mel Gibson...
+teppolundgren well that's your loss. The man is an incredible director. What does it matter what he does in his free time? Is he a personal friend of yours? Stop being silly.
I think he meant Mel as director, he wanted to that Viking movie for years. Mel's an incredible director.
teppolundgren Ridiculous? It's a classic. One of my favorite movies and in my opinion one of the best modern epics.
The sexiest human being ever
Aragaorn for life
*Aragorn
Aragaroagoron
You`re funny! :D
AMProductions Aragogorornon
Aragorornonono
And now he used his childhood duck story on his last film "Falling". Cool
I loved the part in LOTR when he's saying he's 87
we're all a little different but he genuinely seems down to earth and well adjusted
I have a feeling Viggo and his family really live true to themselves.
that laught thooooo
Alberto Silla creapy af
A Dúnedain ranger knows how to hunt. Nothing strange here.
The whole duck scene is in the movie Falling, directed by Viggo himself. love it.
It amazes me each time I see Viggo that the first time he was in his first motion picture he starred with Harrison Ford in WITNESS. He looked so young. But as I see more and more interviews on him and read more stories on him, he is an amazing man. I just bought HIDALGO, a very wonderful movie he made. I've seen only parts of it. In the finale of the movie, I saw him release HIDALGO into a herd of Mustangs after all the amazing adventures they had shared in Africa. I HAD to get the movie so I could see WHY he did that. I was stunned when he let him loose to join the herd. I must find out why!
Strange, but interesting guy!
Conan, yeah.. He's pretty strange
different from most*
No, he's just being Scandinavian.
Argentinian.
Sebastian Perez He's not, he's swedish, born in USA. Just spent a few years in zargentina.
Please give Viggo a role in Game Of Thrones!
omg this would be epic
Blue Suede Shoes Aragorn true King of the north
He wouldn't have been a bad Euron or Victarion in my opinion. Mance would have been good too. No other parts seem to come up though. :)
I think he has the right demeanor to be a faceless man.
He doesn't want it.
Never mess with a guy's duck.
So I expected him to talk about his current living pet duck and was like uhhh cute but story took a different turn lol
Fantastic actor, his collaboration with Cronenberg had the potential to become one of the great collaborations between actor director, too bad Cronenberg decided to retire. And yeah, Aragorn is just the best :)
Cronenberg retired?
@@aldown I don’t think he has retired (he did movies in 2011 and 2014), he just hasn’t done a movie in a while because no one apparently wants to produce his next moviex
that story actually took place when he was in Argentina. He spent most of his childhood there and he speaks Spanish like a true porteño (that's how we call a person who is born and raised in Buenos Aires)
Who came her after seeing his directorial debut Falling? The whole duck story is in the film.
Lil Viggo sounds adorable.
the best host
ljungan96 lol
Conan: You really have these survival skills.
Well what else did you expect from a ranger from the North who spend years in the wild?!
The way he laughed made me laugh😆
One of the most under-rated actors of our time! I would love to just sit and listen to his stories.
❤ Viggo! Very talented & handsome man 😊
Love his duck story!! 🦆 😂😂😂
"my duck"
This is such an adorable story.
What a Gondorian gangsta.
it was a privilege to be at the show! #teamcoco
Fact - He added this duck-story to his directorial debut which was written by him about a fictional family, but he added parts of his real-life too into it, like the father suffering from dementia, and the residence being a ranch.
Looove him
You know I thought it was weird there was a dead duck on the floor of that bathhouse scene in eastern promises
that laugh at 1:29
Seeing celebrities age is sobering and depressing, because it reminds me how much I have aged at the same time
It’s better than them dying young.
This is amazing he used this story in his movie falling!
i've come back for this vid for like the hundred's time makes me laugh so hard
Working with Viggo was freaking awesome..cannot say much yet..
@Santi Lawson -- How about now? Not yet? How about now? ;-)
@@sarahinsf Not until 2022. Or you can ask Virgo himself..
Underrated. Give this man a series.
I just watched his movie "Falling" and this story is one of the first scenes in the movie. I knew I'd heard him tell it somewhere years before.
That's how I caught my first fish... I was just dragging the pole in the water on the way back to shore.
Insane Dane.
the best and chillest storyteller ever.
This is so amusing I can't stop watching it 😂😂
who's he? "He is Viggo! You are like the buzzing of flies to him." every time....every time.
thick MclargeHuge hahaha!
jeez just accept the damn compliment
This is the first time i watch Viggo's interview in late show. OMG love him!
his laugh reminds me of the Joker
He is a brilliant actor and easily made The Path my most favourite of all movies.
Must be traumatic seeing the ducks feather plucked....
He's a sitting duck right where he is...
nizamm No
banned
He took his new pet getting cooked pretty well
He wrote this scene in his film Falling 😅
I hope he will get to play Roland Deschain 🌹
The first time I caught a fish I didn't want us to eat it...I just put it in the sink & kept pouring water over it hoping to keep it alive. Of course, I just prolonged its death but I was 8 & felt really bad about it.
I can't believe Lord of the rings is almost 20 years ago
I didnt completly understand what they are talking in first time, and i am watching it again...I was like, "what???wt??". As conan says, He is the greatest natural hunter.
I could listen to his anecdotes for ages..
He seriously should be getting more roles. I'm so pissed he had to pass on The Hateful Eight.
Jacob Vidrine do we know if his potential role ended up in the film? I looked it up but all I found was that he was supposed to play a “ruthless gang leader”. All I can think of is Channing Tatum’s character.
adamortega1 Yep. He was supposed to be Tatum’s character.
He did the road too!
I thought he actually had a pet duck. I didn’t realize he temporarily kept a duck corpse!
_:'D_ I remember when he told this story on Letterman! lol still holds up
He has a cute laugh if you listen to him closely.
I would so not mind an Ellesar movie. Could be about leading Gondor against remaining orcs.
Always wearing something blue and red, a true San Lorenzo fan haha
Viggo respects "manspread"
My captain, My king
That's how u grow in Argentina. Nothing compared to be a Argentine 😭
Great movie! Viggo is naked and they celebrate Noam Chomsky day. Perfection.
That went so dark so fast
Viggo is my favourite actor of all time !! and my favourite of his movies is A History Of Violence 💯💯
He's starting to look like kirk Douglas
