I did some things of my own before turning 25 and marrying. I quit drinking and smoking, shaved my head, climbed half dome, crossed the US by greyhound twice, ran and got🥉on a 10k run, pilgrimaged to a holy place... I recorded everything I learned and 5 years later I remember those years as the time when I actually began to live. Now I have stories to bore my kids until they themselves go out and live.

As someone who has fought in kick boxing and jiu jitsu tournaments, I’ll say the feelings you get are like nothing else. Find a gym you enjoy going to, with people you enjoy training with and see what happens. Sign up for that competition, because it’s not about winning, it’s about learning. I’ve won and lost fights in both martial arts, and both circumstances it was a great experience and people are usually very respectful, friendly, and understanding

Learn a foreign language to a good standard as an adult. Study a new subject and become proficient enough to teach another person. Be comfortable giving a presentation in front of a few hundred people and get applause at the end. Do some farming, hunting and cook on an open fire away from home or camping. Be the person others come to for help, whatever help means where you are.

Recently I took lessons on how to drive a manual car after driving automatics my whole life. I loved it so much that I sold my old car and bought a manual M4. So I'd say every man should look into acquiring a new skill they want to learn, but don't necessarily need to learn.

Climb a Mountain and stand on the summit. Even if it's an easy mountain that you can walk up (and there are plenty).

This is a great list. I’ve been fortunate to have done most of these.
I would add to #3 write a book OR a daily journal for month or a year.
#4 I would change to grow your own food. Even if it’s just one plant grow it from a seed and eat the vegetable or fruit that grows from it. You’ll appreciate what goes into the food you buy at the store. Alternatively learn to make any complicated dish completely from scratch it doesn’t have to be just sushi.
#5 is one I haven’t done yet but could include getting some form of martial arts or fight training.
#8 I would change to repair or build something or do a small home improvement project beyond just painting a room.
I would add #10 Go camping/hiking including building and cooking on a fire and sleeping outdoors. This could also be a great way to do your 24 hours away from your phone etc. But it doesn’t have to be. Even going with a car full of gear and/or a camper etc is fine but extra points if you only bring a backpack of gear.
Going to add one more controversial one and only for those that are able to: #11 Take a 22lr bolt action rifle (or airsoft) shooting lesson. Even if you never do it again target shooting is one of those things that you have to experience firsthand to understand. You’ll also learn a worthwhile skill that hopefully you’ll never need but you’ll have it if you do.

For my age, I feel I have put myself in a place most people don’t ever get to. Every hunting season, I travel to our family cabin to go deer hunting in the mountains of PA with my grandpa. We don’t have to harvest anything to have a great time. My family and I traveled to Tahiti about a year and a half ago, and it was the coolest trip I’ve been on. The things we ate and the adventures we went on were unreal. For my 18th birthday I went skydiving which was so fun. I joined a half marathon and although I didn’t do great, I got to challenge myself more than I had before. My last year of high school, I traveled to France with a bunch of friends. Absolutely my favorite way to travel because the memories we made will last with me forever. But most of all, I love learning. I have gotten proficient in working with metal, wood, leather, and mechanics.

A great video as always. I can relate to spending a birthday by yourself. I also have this tradition as it’s a great time for a bit of self reflection on another year passed whilst planning for the future. I think road trips can happen involuntary, for example I had a long road trip earlier this year for a family funeral and again, this can offer some much needed headspace. Finally, one thing I recommend everyone do at least once is to get a temporary job in retail. I had a part time job during college and started off by being too shy to talk to customers or answer the phone. As the months went by I grew a lot more confident and it brought me out of my shell to progress to the career I have today. It also gives you a great insight into human behaviour.

Travel to a wonderful place where you do not speak the language: 2012, my spouse and I went to the Peoples Republic of China to visit her sister and her family. Part of the trip was some beach time at Sanya on Hainan Island in the South China Sea. The spouse wanted to go to an Eco Park where there many species of orchid growing, and also a 1.8km zipline down a mountain. We were going to do the zipline at about a half hour before the park closed. This is with me at age 62, first international travel for me, the first time on a zipline, thinking "oh !#$%! what did I get myself into?". It was either zipline or a very long walk out of the park. I did it. And then right before I landed, a small Chinese guy jumped in front of me to take a photograph. Brace for impact. Fortunately he jumped out of the way at the last second. It was exhilarating!

@@Jeffersoniananti-federalist I think some of his points about debts and mortgages are off.For example he is against credit cards and feels you should pay for everything in cash. The good news for those following this idea is that you will never be in debt. The bad news is you likely will have a low credit score.
Many auto insurers and even employers look at your credit score when offering you a policy for your car or offering you a job.
So, while avoiding debt, you could miss out on lower auto insurance premiums or a higher-paying job.He says that a 15 year mortgage is better than a 30 year mortgage. The problem is that the rates are higher for a 15 year, A lot of people can’t afford that.I feel that some of his points are good he seems out of touch with the rest of the working class public.

    1) I am originally from the Philippines. I got that covered. #1 check!
    2) I've been considering it for a while and I plan to write it once things settle down.
    3) I worked a physical job since I got back from the Philippines back in 2019 and I always volunteered or was assigned to do the physically harder tasks. I now have numbers as to how far I physically can take my body. Prior the work, I used to walk 3 to 4 miles a day and I was doing pushups almost everyday for 100 - 200 push ups. I was fairly active. :)
    4) I know how to make sushi rolls but not the authentic Japanese sushi.
    5) I was the VP of the martial arts club back in college and I had always been an MMA fan since the year 2001. #1 rule in a fight? Avoid and run away unless you have to protect your family. Ego will either get you into trouble or get you killed.
    6) Failed the phone challenge multiple times.
    7) I am the oldest of three brothers. I would like to think I was a decent enough sparring partner after the age of 16 years old and beyond.
    8) I am driving that project vehicle for 4 years now. An old toyota. :)
    9) I drove for the first time for about 1200 miles with the aforementioned project vehicle from NJ to Florida this past April. The East Coast is beautiful.

Now this might be incomparably small given what guys in the comments managed to do, but hey, you gotta start somewhere: switched recently to shaving with safety razor, using shaving brush etc. Basically I ditched the "modern" stuff in favor of traditional utensils. And I'm sure not looking back!
I also started waking up consistently at exactly the same time every single day, no matter the day of the week. Made a huge difference and improved the quality of my sleep significantly. It is definitely something I would recommend giving a try.

I 100% agree with tips 8 and 9. I am biased since I love cars, but it’s rather fulfilling to fix something and being able to use it afterwards instead of taking it to someone. One day I just got tired of doing that and I looked at a video online to fix my own car for minor maintenance and it was rather fun (it also made me angry for how much I was getting ripped off but that’s besides the point). Even fixing my own watch or something as simple as changing the battery with a tool kit I bought gives such a good feeling by, for me at least. Also for the road trip, if you’re able of course, I would suggest something with less highways and more scenic routes, or a route that requires more attention than driving straight for 5 hours.

Yup, done almost all that and more. Would recommend stopping all drinking, smoking, and toking immediately (huge difference; saves time, money, and your life).
Also recommend: eating carnivore 100%, fasting for 17 days (twice), being a Zen monk (one year, Japan), owning a motorcycle (Bultaco), living and working in a foreign country for a few years (public relations VP, Tokyo), hitchhiking across the country with no money, credit cards, or cell phone, buying a 20-year old Maserati for $2000 and driving it high-speed across the country (stopping in every auto parts store along the way), buying a 30-year old Jaguar for $5000 and driving it high-speed across the country (stopping in every auto parts store along the way, lost the driveshaft in Iowa), longer-term partying on the beaches of third-world counties (4 months Thailand, 4 months Mexico), getting a graduate degree in something (got two), making a point of hitting triple digits on the highway as often as possible, like daily, two weeks of White Tantric yoga in the desert (New Mexico), cold weather camping and washing in near ice water, living homeless in a 1972 VW Bus cruising up and down the Pacific Coast Highway (six months), corporate banking in Silicon Valley (4 years), commercial salmon fishing out of Seattle/Bellingham, seeing an honest-to-god UFO (looked like a WW2 ship mine with spiky non-uniform protrusions, 6 ft diameter, flat black metal, cruising at 70 mph, through the air in total silence 300 feet up, (no sh*t!), always taking James Bond showers (cold, hot, cold), read only non-fiction books - lots of them (couple of hours every day), management consulting (Boston 7 years), throwing out the TV and never watching mainstream news (100% lies), working construction, and going to as many Grateful Dead concerts as possible (now difficult).
Done all that and plenty more. Have not been officially in the military (but was in boot camp for my first 18 years - father was a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars combat infantry colonel), or in prison (got lucky), but those two might be something to consider in your quest to be a well-rounded guy.
The result will be someone who: 1) thinks for himself, 2) asks discerning questions, 3) does his own research - and thus is Free from ideological programming, to the far left of Bernie and the far right of Trump. Should you wish to start on this list go 100% carnivore first (that's the #1 bang for buck) and the rest will naturally follow. "Be like water."
