Built this one a few weeks ago. While it is a bit of mixed bag, I still like it overall. Although from what it seems, your copy may have been visited by the QC Gremlin at some point (most likely due to age). Because Bandai did reissue this kit not too long ago, & my copy feels fine, shoulders & all. Also, I think the reason why the hips are floppy may be because they aren’t fully clicked in. Basically, whenever you expand or retract the hips; you have to make sure that push/pull that switch until you hear a ‘click’. That’s how you know they’re locked in place. Otherwise, it’ll just flop all over the place. Hope this helps!
OMG! Thank you so much, I didn't realize this and thought it was just one of the things that wasn't made good in the kit. Finally can have the legs stay wide open for them poses.
@@GeremyG Nah, he's trying to get through his backlog. Also, he doesn't have any sponsors in this video, don't think he's had any sponsors in the last few videos too.
Get the Daban 8828. It's a replica of Bandai's metal build so it looks super cool, plus the wings of light it comes with are super high quality. Bandai makes like 1 new MG a year, so I'm not holding out hope. They have the MGEX frame they could reuse for Destiny and Infinite Justice, but all they care about is 1/144.
I have this thing and it certainly has self presence. Though mine had a misprint where the pegs for the crotch piece were not molded. That was fun to work around.
i tihnk mine is more than 10yrs old and it still is one of my displays. my first MG and i liked it. i used scissors and nail clippers to build this thing so it has a lot of nub marks. for the connectors on the wings of light, i did glue the connectors because they kept on falling off. one thing different is that mine seems to have a good strength on the shoulder joints. i can keep the pose on the box art like you did without the shoulder/hand falling off.
The OG MG Aile Strike from 2003 was among the first MGs to have a full inner frame and was revolutionary for the time. It paved the way for MG 2.0s. When the MG Aile Strike RM was announced, there were people complaining that the MG Aile Strike didn't need an update, at least before other suits got their first MGs.
The basic model of this is my first MG. I broke a lot of parts while building it especially on the wing part. But this is a good learning experience for me that time.
This kit shows its age, but this dates back to 07, and considering that the Gundam vKa was released in’02, Bandai’s engineering came a loooooong way in those five years. Bandai’s 2.0 era comes not long after.
I remember I got this kit off ebay when I was a child.... turned out it was a bootleg. The box was the size as the unicorn with the ms cage. Instead of the normal box
I will say, plastic cement is your best friend in this build. Especially with the hip switch thing and the wing clips. You have to cement them and it'll feel much better.
What would you guys say is the best Destiny Gundam gunpla? I only have the 2005 HG (it was my first gunpla ever) and I love it but I was looking for an updated version that with tighter articulation and a cool look. Something like the Metal Frame is out of the question for budget reasons.
This is what I don't get about people complaining MG kits aren't made as frequently anymore. I honestly think MGs are worth the wait now and Full Mechanics kits are actually better than like 90% of MG kits that exist. Like do t get me wrong, I'd love to see more MGs but honestly RG have taken over as my favourite line
This was my first mg kit, and I still have it on display. I've had it since about 2010, and it is starting to show its age. The wings of light don't stay in the wings anymore, and the whole locking and moving hip gimmick has all but failed on mine, but the Destiny will always be special to me and I'd kill for a modern version ...or a perfect grade
I built my 1st mobil suit 2 weeks ago the GM ground 1/144 and well if I would have remembered I was going to record the build it probably would have made you and other model kit builder cringe in disgust as I used swiss army knife scissoers to cut it out but they worked left my index finger and thumb in pain though . So next model kit will be proper tools but hell of fun to build even without proper tools . I only had 2 pieces that gave me problems do to oops forgot to insert polycap so had to work those parts apart and I lost the rear camera sticker because my cat walked infront of the fan changing the air derection and sticker said by by . I figure next model kit will be the 1/100 GM ground so I can see which one I prefer building .
Once again, you’ve been reading my shopping list. Disappointed that your experience was so negative with this one, but for me, I built MG Infinite Justice and Strike Freedom Full Burst years ago, so getting this kit was a foregone conclusion. Still determined to get whatever fun I can out of it.
I wouldn't mind an updated MG for - ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam - ZGMF-X56S/α Force Impulse Gundam - ZGMF-X56S/β Sword Impulse Gundam - ZGMF-X56S/γ Blast Impulse Gundam ...also of course an MG for: - ZGMF/A-42S2 Destiny Gundam Spec II, - ZGMF-56E2/α Force Impulse Gundam Spec II - ZGMF-56E2/β Sword Impulse Gundam Spec II - ZGMF-56E2/γ Blast Impulse Gundam Spec II I definitely think if we get an updated MG ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam, one thing they should do is if they want to keep that silver inner frame, they should undergate the parts.
I just finished my first MG, an old Deathscythe. Not a fun build at all, but being my first MG I guess I have no point of reference. And it''s only the fourth Gundam I have built. The wings were a nightmare to build, but they look great once done. Lot's of rather iffy fits here and there overall. And a bad case of how many bits can I drop repeatedly while trying to snap it all together? Took about 8 hours, but...superbly satisfying once I finished. I did have to clamp and extra thin a couple of parts to get rid of gaping seams.
I got this when it first came out and customized mine. this is pretty spots on with the flaws listed. Only one I didn't see mentioned was how fragile the folding beam cannon is; it has parts to open and close that are linked to a very flimsy handle and the whole mechanism always feels like it's on the verge of breaking. I don't even bother with it on mine. The last time I had mine out and tried to attach those wings it was the most fustrating expereince ever. It is a nice looking kit but dear god this thing desperately needs a 2.0.
I know every kit is someone's favorite kit, but this kit was such a bummer for me. This was like a 1/100 scale High Grade, it had no surface detail, nothing that makes a Master Grade a Master Grade.
I have a new reprint of the regular version and the arms are way tighter and the hips seem a bit better as well. The weapons are really annoying on mine the Arondight doesn’t want to stay in it’s stored mode and the handle on the Beam Cannon is super loose.

this is my first MG kit 15 years ago and I am traumatized until now
I've built it recently. Ankle joint is loose on mine. But the good thing is that it comes with a stand. I still liked the kit tho. Really nice one.
The joints on mine are jolding up fine when it comes to the plated bits but the poly caps have given out a bit though
I've had this kit for about 3 years and never had any of the issues with mine right out of box
I'd say the Destiny EBM was OK with a little painting. With a little grey paint and matte topcoat with decals the thing should look uniform.
How do you topcoat this kit without affecting the chrome?
I think you can use some of the wash paints for the figurines of shin and kira so you dont lose the transparency but still get a bit of the color
