Every time they recommend Race for the Galaxy (so every other video) it makes me want to play it again but also seriously wish it got a jazzed up new edition with legible cards.

Legible how? RtfG gets a lot of flak for its iconography, but it's consistent and intuitive - not to mention any card that's less intuitive contains text to tell you exactly what it does.
@@Gamer2k4 even with the text, it feels like you need the Legend sheet from the rules to understand the iconography. But the main thing is that the text and icons are all so small. Hey, I love Star Realms, too - so you're not the only one. You're onto something with the slowness of the game at larger player count. It's gloriously fast and cut-throat at 2, and that pace and tension seep away as the player count rises. Still, it's a fun game and I love playing it. *GASP* A SUSD on a game I got recently! Nice! Shoutout to Villagers and Streets as well referenced in a SUSD previews episode. Love all three of those games.
For a rover rollover I was kind of hoping it was a "pass the pigs" situation in which you'd roll all the rovers and count up the ones that landed on their snouts and whomever has the most snouts wins the points.
I learned a lot about designing the player experience of my own little space-based card game idea from this review. Also learned that this game is so sleek-looking I’m consumed by feelings of inadequacy. Well, ad astra per aspera and all that-I’ll have to keep working on upping my game (literally).
The part with rovers going out to other players' cards and thus you being motivated to keep track of others' tableaus reminds me of 51st State and Imperial Settlers. Those have the open production locations that produce resources for you and also for the first other player to visit them. Not to mention the part that you can, and often should, raaaaaaaaaaze other people's stuff. And they have (some) drafting too!
Also reminds me of Villages of Valeria, a follow-the-action tableau builder where you can buy resources from other players and by doing so also hilariously blocking their access to it until their next turn.
The first game I thought of similar to this, especially hearing the 2-player rules, was Among the Stars. The variant 2-player rules in that game are the same, drawing an extra card and discarding one.
OI OI !!! Star Realms is a great two player that got me into this hobby ... !! Although , when talking big in small , maybe a Race for the Galaxy sounds like a better fit. God i wish they just upgraded RFTG into something more evolved like this.
Yes, it it make a great unauthorized expansion without expansion rules, to the Star Wars Deckbuilding Game. The Explorer card make for an interesting alternative option to the Outer Rim Pilot.
I find myself confused on whether there are really so many people in the comments here who honestly don't realize it's obviously a very obvious joke, or if it's that everyone is just jumping in on the joke playing it straight and it's me who misses that part.
The advantage of 1/3 tokens is that the operations always stay the same and simple when adding scores. Increase score by: you either add a 1 or remove a 1 and flip a token: 0->1, add 1 1->2: add 1 2->3 remove 1 of the 2 and flip the other. Same for everything up to 10, just with 1 or 2 more 3 tokens. Increase score by 2: either add 2 or flip a token 0->2 add 2 1->3 flip the 1 2->4 flip 1 of the 1's Increase by 3, just add a 3 Increase by 4 or more, same as above 3 steps, but add the required amount of 3's. Also Star Realms is great!
Got my copy today and we love playing it, highly recommend! Just a FYI the game I got delivered by Amazon did not include the nice labeled organizational boxes, the tokens were cardboard, and the rovers weren’t decorated :( just plain and grey.
How dare that cameraman defame star realms??? It's simple, true, but it has enough strategy to be fun, it plays quickly, setup is a breeze, and the deckbuilding is addictive. I demand the firing of the defamer this instant.
