- Ibanez's RG series, specifically the RG550, was a massive success when it premiered in the '80s, arguably even bigger than the guitar it was based on (the Ibanez JEM.) It has spawned off into innumerable re-interpretations and continues to be one of the most, if not the most, beloved series in the Ibanez line. This reissue (complete with a series of excellent updates) is a testament to its lasting impact and desirability. Watch as guitarist Maru Martinez takes it for a spin.

That Math Rock-ish clean playing was on point.
Heh. Glad someone else noticed the Math Rock.
Check out Paper Hero, her mathrockish metalish band!
Just add some whiny vocals and you have a modern midwest emo band

I freaking love Ibanez's RG series, idk why
Its the way they feel, that Wizard II neck. My first guitar was an RG, sold it about 8 years ago. I don't miss the sound at all, but when I pick one up it feels so damn easy to play.
Me too. Get your hands on a 1980s Roadstar II. Insane builds back then.
They feel so good to play.
You usually dont hear Holy Wars in an Ibanez guitar review 😁 Great playing!
I wonder why not. It’s ideally suited for that style of music.
Nice demo! Great to see a RG demo that shows the tone possible and not just growling in a C# tuning.
the maple neck and matching paint job is what makes it cool, the playability of those 87-88 necks are crazy fast. so low action with zero buzz to be heard. aaammaazzinngg.
Holy fuck that EVH's PANAMA sounded so good!
There's a lot to be learned from watching this girl shred - she has a light touch, quick fingers and makes it look absolutely effortless. That's how speedy stuff should be played.
Congrats Maru on ur first reverb video and u played beautifully ❤️
Girl name please ?
@@raditya3357 Maru Martinez
Killer guitar player! So clean and articulate. Her right hand is a machine.
Holy Wars 😎👍
I got my (NP) Ibanez Genesis RG 550 as a B-Day present in Nov. 20’ from Reverb & still to this day the baddest guitar I’ve played and has been a favorite since the 80’s as a teen!#Ibanez#RG550#NP#Genesis#🎸🤘🏻🔥❤️
Fabulosa forma de interpretar, con mucha dulzura, acariciando las cuerdas, muy bien.
Shouldn't the title be Ibanez RG Genesis? No matter, great demo, Ibanez guitars are so much more than just metal. Really want an RG550.
The Genesis was the 2017 edition of the 550 marking the 30th anniversary, looks like they are putting out the model again this year!
first words Ibanez rg Genesis no??
I got the Ibanez Fluorescent orange RG565.
Well. The two big difference points is the 87 has a wizard neck + v1/s1/v2 pickups set. Whereas (2017/18) genesis has the superwizard neck + v7/s1/v8 pickups.
Ibanez could make the genesis in same profile as the original 87. However, it would envolves more costs in the line production to reintroduce a old way manufacturing.
But, in my opinion, about the necks comparison. In spite of super wizard not has the 80’s vibes, it’s more modern and strong.
Otherwise, I think that the old set pickups has a little more “vintage” sound.
Anyway, the genesis it’s a great guitar too.
Trust me, it’s pretty damn close. I lusted after the original back when I was a kid in the 80s. I finally caved and bought me a genesis this year. Road flare red, son. Oh, yeah! Damn thing glows in the dark! I run it through a katana 100. Play along with Mötley Crüe, poison, skid row, Guns N’ Roses and Warrant. Rocks like a son of a bitch. Stays in fucking tune real good too no matter how much I abuse that whammy bar. It’s a great guitar.
Great song choices! Great playing. Made me remember my old original RG550. Thank you 😊
they have a unique sound and play great. the collectables 87-88, 15 years ago were 500 bucks now hummmm rare and 1500.
This year I'm gona buy one of these
Great playing. My 1990 S540 was in that funky color, may it RIP.
Great demonstration, I really like the brightness of the pickups and they sound very direct !
Nice riffing, what amp was used?
Really loved the 4th position pickup
Still love my 1990's RG550 (along with my Dean Tyrant)
Maruuuuu!!! Te la comiste con esa demo, qué grande.
Really cool sound and girl
Thats one of the sexiest guitars weve ever seen 😍
I find few things as gorgeous as a girl with a super strat! Especially the kind I play! Very talented. Great job. I love how you showcase the clean tones as well. These guitars are super versatile and sound great both with high gain and pristine clean. The neck pick up especially sounds pretty luscious when you add a little bit of reverb and some delay and you keep it pretty clean with the treble knob turned down a bit.
Awesome demo!
Love your playing.
Excellent demo 😱😱😍😍
what's th amp??? thanks
I've got a rg350 with dimazio pick ups sounds exactly the same
Very nice colour!
thank you!
Are you using any petals on the video?
Oh my.....
I still have my 92’ RG 570
the 550 87-88 is what you want. ;)
PANAMAAAAAA...
nice playing
Lol I have a cheaper version of the same model called ibanez grx55b. It comes in the same colours. I don't if they make it anymore.i got a white and black before they went with out of stock. Let me know if you get it out of Asia?
What are the clean songs she plays
I think most of the clean is from here original music. Here's one you can hear at 1:58.
ruclips.net/video/jNMJo-y0HCc/видео.html
dave navarro used one. back when he was cool...
Pretty sure just about everyone did back in the late 80's early 90's
Cool
PANAMA!
David Mustanen, Edward v Halen....
0:41 ibanez RG550
That MegaDeath was pretty cool, is she in a band?
What's the song?
@@rob2133 Holy Wars
What was that first metal song she played?
Holy Wars - Megadeth
They should demo the ibanez talman prestige too.
the original rg are the ones you want. ;)
Most or All banez's made in japan in the 70s and 80s at The Famous FujiGen Plant were well crafted. Some awesome luthiers in those days. Korea took charge later on and it was decent. Now its Indonesia. I've yet to try out an Indo Ibanez. I believe this one is Indo. Sounds good.
Japan Fuji
what was the amp she used? Overdrive tone was fucking sick!
it's the guitar not the amp.
Wish they still had the v1 and v2 pickups
yeah they're using the 94' V series I believe. but pups can be changed very quickly and easily.
Ye i have have them in my rg550 genesis
someone to tell me the names of those songs
Van Hale - Panama
Megadeth - Holy Wars
Panama
I think she's a Berkley grad if I recall, excellent player.
Something about Ibanez pickups makes me hesitate. The clean tones are fine: but they sound thin and fizzy as soon as they start to distort. I'd expect something more characterful for the price.
IDK. I have owned 3 Ibanez in the last few years including a Japanese built prestige RG. And I think they all sound like that no matter what pickups you put in. High output, medium ouput. I even tried different bridges. An FRO in the RG with the locking trem. And even bolted a Tight End R bridge to a cheap S series I had with a fixed bridge. They sounded exactly the same.
Doesn't mean Ibanez make bad guitars - they just sound like they do.
I really enjoyed this demo and Marus playing style.Never heard of her. But great demo!
I have a 7 string ibanez guitar (an rg752 to be precise) and I've never found its tone that fizzy. It's due to the combination of electronics. I changed my guitar's potenciometers and that made a huge difference. The problem here it's they're using mid tier pots, that's it.
and that's why companies like Seymour, DImarzio etc are in business
sometimes stainless frets do this i think i still think their greatest model was the 80s saber
Good thing pups are very easy to swap. As for the price point.. I see comments like that a lot, but if you want to be technical. These Rg's back in late 80's early 90's went for between 700-900 bucks. looking at the inflation calculators these should be about 1600-1800. So, they're way under priced. For a hundred to two hundred depending on your choice of pups you can put in whatever you want. The original Edge and 5 piece neck alone tells me. worth every dollar..
is it just me who thinks that RG550's pickups better than the dimarzio in RG652?
beautiful guitar beautiful lady, ma'am im in love
she's... Mario with reverb? i must be wrong...
Maru
Wth. That was a review?
Check the title, it's a demo
great playing but those pickups sound cheap.
Pretty sure there quality de mazio pickups so....
@@seanbailey8545 They are the stock pickups not Dimarzio. Although these guitars have the v7/v8's which are decent.
I like these guitar but I don’t like the look of maple fretboards =(
they released the 570 for a couple years too. still some out there avail. They do not have the maple fretborads
I could never, ever, ever buy a guitar with a maple neck and painted head-stock.
It just isn't do-able, sorry.
??
I’m sure Ibanez is crushed by your rejection...
hum now that you mention it, that what makes these soooo fucking beautifull and cool looking.
