    Great video!! I'm currently reading The Stand for the first time and really enjoying it a lot. I've heard good things about Misery so might read that next! Good to know the audio book is good!
    I've read a few books by Murakami (Kafka on the Shore & Hard Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World) and while I enjoyed them and like how unique his blend of magical realism is, I do find his portrayal of women to always be pretty horrible overall. Most of the women in his books do not feel believable and are always over sexualized, not to mention he just has a lot of... uncomfortable scenes. Like his sex scenes just always have some weird twist to them and sometimes feel pointless to the narrative overall. Despite that, I still find his books really fascinating though and want to read more. So he's an author I'm very mixed on 😂 I haven't read Norwegian Wood yet but want to get to it eventually and see how it compares to the others I've read

      Hi Jay! Thanks for watching :) I hope you enjoy the Stand (one of my favorites) and I definitely need to read a few more before Murakami before making my mind up on him 🤓I’m probably going to read Kafka next. Looking forward to one day seeing your thoughts on how NW compared to the rest of his works!

    Great collab!! Thank you for re-introduce me again to Misery! I read that book (although didn't finish it yet) at highschool and I remember that I was really enjoying it. For sure, I'm going to go read and finish that one out. Usually, I really enjoy Stephen King books but this one was in that sweet spot for me. Never heard of Norwegian Wood and based on the synopsis, if I read it, I sure hope to be on a good mood and not a sad one because this one seems very very depressing 😅

    Great video 😻 I’m tempted to read Norwegian Wood after hearing Henka’s and your thoughts. I know through Japan’s history and culture that they handle sex in literature/art differently than the west. I’m not validating the Author’s choices and I’m not excited to read another book with lackluster characters. But, I’ll give it a shot. Loved the montage in the beginning ❤

    I LOOOOVE MISERY! How did you feel about the scenes that were the pages from the book Paul was writing? Some of those dragged on for me so I ended up rating it 4/5 stars ⭐️

    King is one of the best character writers. And The Dark Tower is on the top fantasy series. Not sure what you read from him previously. Misery’s adaptation is also very famous to movie. It won an Oscar to the best woman actor.

      Ok so I read Carrie, Salems Lot, The Shining, Rage. The Stand (which Henkas video will be on and it is my favorite King so far), the Long Walk, The Deadzone, Firestarter, Roadwork, Cujo, the Running Man, The Gunslinger (I intend to continue with the series), and now Misery*

      @@valliyarnl from that The Stand would be a great deal. 11.22.63, It, and some of the non-horror books (after all Stand is out of the horror category) like Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption. Those movies are on the top tier for a reason. And Pet Cemetery. But who knows? The Dark Tower book 1 is not the fastest read for sure. It’s not full with the team character dynamic that King can do. What Dark Tower still did that’s the title already added: that was the western lonely gunslinger hero book. The others each give an other type of story. Like portal fantasy, etc… just in King’s dark way.

    As always I enjoy hearing your opinions. I saw the movie Misery years ago and loved it, so after watching you talk about it, it sounds like a good read. I mean it IS Stephen King right? But I’ll pass on Norwegian Wood! I’ll stick to the Beatles version.. haha interested to see your next read!
    Also I was wondering what is your favorite genre to read? I’m a sci fi fantasy nerd myself, but am thinking about trying some mystery suspense.. my mother recommended Janet Evanovich or David Baldaci..

    • @valliyarnl
      @valliyarnl  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank you Steve, that's very kind of you! I'd say definitely give Misery a try. I actually haven't seen the movie but I am planning on doing that ASAP. I agree that Norwegian Wood (Beatles' Version) is better than Norwegian Wood (Murakami's Version). I'd say my favorite genre is fantasy but I do love my literary fiction classics as well 😊
      Thanks for passing on the mystery recommendations!

      That’s so interesting I didn’t know that 😂 maybe it’s a translation issue? Idk well like I said I adored Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and didn’t mind the way women were depicted there, ig it was just Norwegian wood that didn’t click with me. But I’m gonna read a few more of his books for sure

    "This collab is hilarious! I loved how you guys went from fangirling over Stephen King to being totally traumatized by Murakami. Wera, your impersonation of Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye was spot on. 😂 Also, can we talk about how Cricket the cat is the real star of the show? Stealing the camera and interrupting like a boss. Maybe Cricket should get his own review channel?!"

      @@valliyarnl I love libraries, what they represent, and some of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen have been libraries. I hope they never go away. And hey, you're a student right? You've got to be frugal. And you're reading a whole lot of books, it's got me motivated to up my book reading more, so thank you. I get the pull though, wanting to buy new books and own them. Hope that never goes away. "Kozak", I like that, I'll have to try to do it justice and pronounce it right.
