I think the underdog argument has a lot of merit to it and the final film did manage it quite well. Godzilla still ultimately won in their major confrontation, but Kong show that he was able to go the distance and did at least have the potential to win. It allows both characters to come off as suitably powerful and respected. It would have been just plain boring if Godzilla wasn't even trying and was victorious, Kong made him work for it.
As an American your just a dumb American who fails to realize that kong is an American made kaiju and Godzilla is originated in Japan. So of course when America starts making Godzilla movies with kong being another main character then I'm sure you can see why kong gets more publicity but Godzilla will always be better than kong and more popular because if you didn't know Godzilla is the most iconic movie monster in the world, the face of kaiju, and one of the first things that comes to mind when you think of Japan.
Well mainly due to the films being exclusive to Japan. Minus one was the first one to be released internationally. Edit: Actually scratch that last part. It was the return of Godzilla and 2000 but people barely knew Godzilla since the other movies were only in Japan.
Yeah, clearly the money maker of an ape that saved a franchise and grossed one of the most best movies in it is clearly the least popular character than it’s own predecessor
It’s because King Kong wasn’t taking seriously Only being used in a few movies despite having a 15 year head start against Godzilla And Godzilla just has more projects and in my opinion is just much cooler (no offense to the Kong fans)
Listen im not saying kong was an underbog at all but I know He should have won that fight hands down, but because Kong wasn’t the money maker for the movie and legal actions we couldn’t see him win
Even Zimzilla is a friend of mine but I disagree with him on this video, besides I don't consider King Kong as Kaiju because he's just overgrown ape, hell even O'shea Jackson Jr thinks Kong is too basic
@MataNui. well if you look at Godzilla and Gamera they're example of Kaiju because unlike real life Dinosaurs they don't fire radiation beam out of their mouths, while for Gamera turtles in real life don't have fangs and they can't fly unlike Gamera, so that's why I don't consider King Kong as Kaiju because he doesn't have any bizarre parts all over him nor any ability
@@skyylerkingery98 If kong isn't a kaiju cause he's a big gorilla then rodan isn't a kaiju and neither is kumonga as both are just a giant pterosaur and a giant spider. I always felt like Godzilla is more popular than King Kong . Godzilla in my perspective is always use ,to be the one that people imagine what a true kaiju is, a walking force of nature destroying everything in its way. Meanwhile King Kong I don’t see him representing Kaiju’s as much. There’s also one thing that might make people upset and it’s that King Kong is just boring on paper compared to Godzilla. Kaiju means strange or mysterious beast which King Kong fits perfectly into. Most kids? when GvK was coming out most people in my highschool preferred King Kong.
