A how to video for headlight replacement on a 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse / Allure. Headlamp replacement # H11. I replaced my OEM headlights with aftermarket blue tinted ones because one went out...they're lasting pretty good and shine bright so far. Subscribe for more 1st gen LaCrosse videos! Хобби
Single mom over here thanks so much bud! Did it all on my own!
Listening to the remix, scratching, desecration of ‘Back in Black’ being played on a loop was equally as bad as performing the headlight removal. That said, I appreciate you taking the effort to demonstrate the removal.
Good video although, but the music just frigging kills it
Listening to the music, I felt like hanging myself with dental floss.
Helping my brother change the bulb. A mechanic gave up on it. You perfectly described the fasteners that needed removal and I appreciate the hint that it sounds like something is breaking. It did. Had to take the side light out and pry the headlight out enough for that big plastic cap to clear the adjuster. Thanks.
Tons of help! Thank you very much for sharing this video. I almost had the entire headlight out but it didnt feel right so i came to look up a video and realized i didnt need to take the whole headlight out. Saved me lots of time. Thanks again
Never changed a bulb so difficult. It’s the tightest fit. What a pain in the arse.
I just replaced my low beams yesterday on my 2006 LeCrosse. I simply removed the entire head lamp assembly from the vehicle. You have to unhook the two power lines, but it took all about 10 min each side.
Exactly...
I don't what that was I just watched..
Thank you. You made it so I didn't have to take it in to the shop and in turn save me a lot of money around the perfect time of year.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I have been dreading having to do this on my car because I knew how difficult it was. Couldn't have happened at a worse time. My right headlight went out yesterday when driving back from Toronto-Pearson last night. 401 was jammed thanks to a bad accident that closed it for several hours (in addition to usual Friday afternoon traffic), so I had to take surface streets all the way through Brampton to Guelph back to the 401. I tried to take Hwy-7, but I Kept getting lost and stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic (esp. Campbellville Rd) which was also trying to avoid 401. The dark backroads didn't reflect much. I got hot from behind outside Brampton, and I nearly got killed by a truck when trying to do a 3-point turn. Finally took Steeles to Guelph and then Wellington to Hespeler back to the 401 near Milton. All told it took me 6 hours get from Pearson to Sarnia, and that after a 9-hour flight from Germany. The US border guard in Port Huron gave me a verbal warning about it but let me go. I was hoping it was just a fuse but it wasn't, so I looked up your video and got it done today. THANKS
Winter really sucks, too cold outside. so I took my 07' Buick Allure to the Dealer. It took two guys to replace it, cause you have to hold the plastic piece between the headlights out of the way. This guy didn't pull the plug out in the centre either with the fork or upholstery tool. On the corner, there is a guide pin on the right hand side, if you watch carefully, you can see it near where the bolt is removed. You have to lift it up and clear that pin to to remove the light assembly, DON'T PULL ON IT!!. Then you can gently rock it out to change the bulb. Makes it lot easier believe me. Your going to need a upholstery tool, otherwise if you break the plastic plug, there about $10 each. After a couple times of changing headlight on 07' Buick Allure you have to replace the little rubber donut with plug in the center for the hood support. The 08' is little different, but pretty much the same thing. If you find this information helpful, let me know.Take care
I appreciate your video. I was able to replace the bulb with ease thanks to you.
Thank you this helped me alot. I had no idea that piece of metal slides out. I almost took my car to the shop...so you saved me a lot of money.
I replaced the driver's side entire headlamp unit since the one in it already was too far gone to restore. I replaced it and did as you did here but I had to have an extra set of hands to hold back the bumper fascia while I gently and slowly set the headlight in and made sure it was secured. I did restore both of my headlamp lenses as best as I could and they came out 98.9% good! This video helped me immensely! I ironically have the same exact year car and color only mine being the super with the V8. 🫡🫡🫡
You only have to loosen the middle bolt, not all three. At least in the '05. The middle bolt and white plastic part are two retaining pins that hold in the lamp assembly, as well as the two black, plastic push pins. You can take the whole assembly out once you remove them.
nice job 👍👍 saludos 🇲🇽
Any other vehicle I have ever owned or been asked to help with was so much simpler to replace bulbs on, whatever possessed the designers to make this into an insane task is beyond me.
Robert Slackware Yeah, this bullshit is done on purpose to make you take it somewhere and pay a ton of money for a shop to fix it.
@Robert Slackware haha! i unplugged my abs. problem solved.
I walked up to the parts counter at the local GM dealer and placed two busted plastic body panel plugs on the counter. "I just replaced the low beam bulbs on a 2008 Lacrosse" is what I told them. A roll of very understanding laughter followed from them. They told me that according to the GM book, mechanics should be charging over $300 to do the replacement. The shop manual calls for the entire front bumper cover to be removed to do this job. It's ridiculous.
IKRRR 😩
Excella video. Helped me do this job in 1/4 the time it would have. Thanks.
Thanks. a bit of a struggle but got it done!!
I just bought one of these and man changing anything out from a turn signal, horns, or the headlight itself is a real pain in the ass. I learned a trick though, you remove the plasic push pin between the hi-beam light and grille for alittle more room. Once you get the hang of it its not too difficult.
I needed this...Complicated but can be done.
the old days are gone replacing headlights - brights - all directional & running & brake lights - it just cost me $74.11 to replace left & right right rear lights on 2006 LaCrosse
Thanks for this video - it really helped me
Thanks man
Thanks you have an excellent video! Well done! I have changed my low beam headlight on my 2006 Buick Allure 4 times now and despite the recall from GM which we had where they replace the low beam module the damn low beams only seem to last about four months which is silly. The only change I would suggest to your video would be to wear rubber gloves when you handle the H11 bulb because if you touch the glass on the bulb you will cause it to go out faster. The bulb glass must be perfectly clean as it is in the package. There are a few ways to change the bulb but your approach is the best and the fastest. Thanks!
Thanks! You saved me some bucks!
great vid! really helped me out
Thank you so much, man. Sure as shit wasn't paying $300 to replace a couple $15 bulbs, and I also sure as shit wasn't taking off the front bumper again. You saved me a lot of trouble.
My mom's husband and I were fucking staring at the back housing for the bulb like wtf? Why did they do this? I said looks like we'll have to unhook everything to change on bulb. Luckily I found your video and we figured it out a lot quicker than two numb nuts about to take apart the entire front end.
Thanks.
9 months ago I we (mainly my mom's husband) changed the passenger bulb and just a little shy of a year, I was able to change my driver side bulb thanks to this video. Big ups to me because I've never done that by myself before and I've got blood on my hands as my victory scars.
total pain in the ass job. thanks GM.
Thanks
Thanks Frank worked great and I am terrible with cars
Thanks, I successfully changed my light bulb.
Wow that was a pain in the ass!! Way to go GM!!! Thanks for the video!
That was such a pain in the ass to get that cover out.
Thank you so much for the video. 🤗
Just a tip for those who don;t know, do not touch the bulb with bare fingers, the bulb will fail sooner than rated.
Cool. Thanks. Very informative.
Nice video. Very helpful. I had to disconnect my park light in the corner to get the circular cover out. Other than that, it was not a bad job.
Ty very much sir. I personally found out that you only have to remove the middle screw of the 3 you remove at the beginning. The other two do not give you any more room and are just a waste of time (imo). Either way, ty once again!! ;)
Great tip! middle bracket is all i needed to remove and I had the headlamp out and changed in 15 min (only one pinched finger).
Remember, remove the H11 bulb counterclockwise
I liked the contrast and Teaching quality, the music makes me anxious and angry and in the end contributes complete lose of self control. Thanks for the pick me down Mike
Big help keep up the good work.
very helpful. thanks
Thank you my brother!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing
Curious question, not criticism...shouldn't you be worried about touching the actual bulb with your bare skin? The reason being that dirt and oils found on the hands and fingers can compromise the integrity of the bulb (glass itself) in a reaction to the heat produced by the bulb itself.
Just wondering if it's, in your opinion, a "best case scenario" to NOT touch the bulb versus a "critical step", or perhaps a complete "non-factor". Thanks in advance for any response.
I don't know much about these little 55w lamps but I used to do electrician work in a theatre and if you touch one of those lamps they can fail quite violently (granted they handle more than 13 times the current these do at 750w). While I doubt these things get hot enough to actually explode from something like that I always choose to behave as though they will, better safe than sorry.
Up in some little cubicle in GM land, there's a little nerdy shirt and tie gleefully giggling about how he managed to screw every DIY'er and save the company a fraction of a cent per unit. And make it all out of plastic, guaranteed to break if twisted the wrong way, or to be destroyed in a 5 mph collision. I love my '51 Chevy truck. I HATE my wife's 2006 Buick Lacrosse!
What a pain in the azz this was just to replace a headlight bulb. As usual, lesson learned after the fact.I did the bulb change pretty much like you did and still bear the scars on the tops of my hands (lol)! I went on-line to AlldataDIY and they recommend loosening the bumper fascia and pulling it away to get the headlight out.
Great video and very helpful. One question.....who, in the BLUE HELL, did that to Back In Black?!
the black bar (the middle 10mm blot), lift that up a little to be able to wiggle the light housing to able you to gain some room to remove the access light cap....after that just get in.
What's up DIY Frank! Haha. Thanks for the video. I just got a call from the GF. I have to do this tomorrow on her 2006.
+Frank Jr. The funny part here is that I'm named after my father so my name is Frank Jr. too!
+DIY Frank I GoPro'd me doing this on my GF's 2006. Thanks for the help.
was hoping you were going to do the side where the battery is blocking everything...
When I did that side the battery (at least on the 2008 model) wasn't really blocking the back of the headlight assembly as much as the unibody support was. If you push the headlight assembly forward enough you can get just enough room to fit your hand back there, just follow the same procedure as the other side that I showed.
Yup your right. this was a two person job for me. my dad used a big scew driver to push come of the plastic back so I could fit my hand in the the 3 inches of space.... the hardest part was getting the light back in its offical sitting spot..
Thanks for the help! This is a stupid design for the headlight assembly! The access point should be on top where you don't have to remove the assembly! No wonder GM is going out of business!
Una saab 2006 muy seguido se apagan las luces bajas demantecas dicen qhe es defecto de fabrica como arreglo las luces
why didn't you just remove a couple of the plastic rivets holding the grill down? You could have just easily pulled the assembly out to replace the bulb, instead of trying to do it through the tiny space behind the light.
I'm a girl and it took me 10 minutes. Didn't even have to wear gloves. This guy makes it look hard. It is so simple if you have half a brain.
Yes, ma'am. Another YT video clip shows that it helps to pull the assembly forward much further (about an inch) -- and not to have such fat "mitts" as DIY Frank has -- in order to have more room to manipulate the bulb and its big black cover.
I just did one on my car I just got it was a pain in the ass I spent like a hour and a half on it and I had to take off the turn signal light to avoid breaking it from to cover that screws on it it was kinda my fault too I dint watch any videos on it
Thumbs up for the demo, nice work, didn't care for sound mix. Rock to the beat of the Macarena? Even though originality is good, no one should mess with Rock.
Where did you get your b-pillar covers? Can you show a video of the thickness of them? Looking to get some gloss black ones.
Sure! I'll be making a cabin air filter replacement video next week and I'll show you then. Bought mine from a seller on ebay for $36 last year. They held up pretty well but one side got a decent chip from being frozen and me scraping my windows to get ice off during the winter. The plus side is that they have a 3 year warranty so I will be getting it replaced soon.
Haha cool, but I guess I won't be needing it anymore. The car got totaled last week. Appreciate it though!
Thanks!! just did my 05 lacross. pair done in about 15mins. frustrating, yes...
and most of all, thank you for turning down the music while talking. I came here to watch a headlight video, not listen to a cover song of ac/dc
A loud rock vid in the background is an annoying distraction that otherwise compromises your good work
Came back today to re-check this video before I go out to change my wife's bulb. Good video, Frank, but I'll make one suggestion for future videos. Maybe place your camera on a tripod with a full view of the full area of what you're working on and then when you point out things that are going to be removed/worked on, we can still see it when you move to the next step or item. My mind doesn't move as fast as your hands and camera (since you already know what's going to happen or what you just did, you've got an advantage), and as you're moving the camera to the next step, I'm still trying to figure out what you just pointed to and said about it. I guess some people are a little quicker on the uptake than I am, but I had to back it up and freeze it a dozen times as I was attempting to make a diagram of all the things to be done and the order they came in. Not criticizing you, just letting you know that not everybody is familiar with the bolts and parts, so it takes a second to see and comprehend what you're looking at. The way you move the camera to focus on the next thing in your mind is tough to follow that fast. Otherwise, thanks for the help and for posting this. Lee

Ok thanks for the tips,, very useful.., However, I found it better to remove the parking lamp from its socket to help getting that dome lid out of there. I love my buick but this is very poor engineering... it should be much more simpler. Plus I had to do this in a snow storm and low windchills.
Have an 06 and of all things I hate changing headlights the most. Easier to pull the plastic back and remove the whole headlamp. Other than this I like the car.
...I had to stop a 1:13 , damn, if I wanted to go to a gawddamn concert , I would. ..nothing to learn here !
The bulbs on mine burn out every 1 1/2 - 2 years, terrible !
thanks for the video , now come change mine lol
Dude it's a great video but get rid of the music!!!!
First I got to say if you do any more videos just cut out the music it makes it difficult to hear you and it's sort of annoying also what was the purpose of lifting the two release rods if you can't remove the headlight housing and it didn't seem to make it any easier to get at the cover or the bulb? Seems like a pretty horrible design... Looks like the bumper cover encapsulates the headlamp housing so that you can't remove it or pull It Forward enough to get your hand in there to get the bulb out easily but you did it with your big ham hock hand so congratulations brother. Thanks for the video but somebody butchered AC/DC.
Consequently I just did this on the passenger side for a friend of mine but I had to go down into the wheel well to access it from inside the wheel well I just reached my hand up in there.
Generous Motors sure makes some JUNK.
I think it took me 30 minutes to change both lamps in a friends Lacrosse, I won't do it again. The car looks nice but mechanically its Garbage, really poor or lack of engineering.
I can change the lamps in my BMW's and Dodge Grand Caravan in minutes without gutting anything.
This is so easy even a cave man could do it..,.
Your ac/dc music was so annoying I had to find another helpful video
Yet another reason to hate the Buick Lacrosse. Ridiculous design.
Thanks for taking the time to create this video. The music was horrible though. No music would be much, much, better.
Thanks for the upload. Your music is very irritating however.
Hahahahahahahahahha but thank you anyway!!!!!
you dont have to take any hardware out to replace this bulb make it easy on yourself.
Or you just take a hammer and bust out all the useless plastic behind it. That’s all I did and it worked perfect. I can change them both now in 10 seconds.
Thanks for the helpful video. I hate the band and esp this song tho.
Why not take the grill assembly loose? It takes about 2 minutes more and you have a lot more room to work. Pass on this how-to.
Music loud, cannot hear you talking
Damn, why all that screaming music!
Great video for us do it yourself people. BUT the music has to go. Absolutely annoying and distracting
well that was of no help at all.
noisy music and dizzy video, GOD.
Thanks for showing us how to do it but you can do without the music, IT SUCKS !!!
Yeah it's difficult if you do all that nonsense, just remove the whole headlight assembly...
Needed better music
Nothing wrong with AC/DC but the music is a little too much.
Nerve-aggravating music only adds to the aggravation. Why do people find it necessary to have heavy hard rock as part of their video, when I have a hard enough time trying to concentrate? Why the rock music?
Jesus!!! The FREAKING MUSIC! HOW FUCKING IRRITATING!
GOOD VID OTHER THAN THAT!
OmG What is with the annoying music?!
Who can watch this?
no offense but you make a video and you don't seem to be sure of what you're doing
