"I want to be a kinder, gentler person. I want to be... a stronger person." This line is one of my favorites in any fiction. There's a plethora of examples in media where strength is equated to power, respect and the "no fucks given" philosophy. That a man's worth comes from his ability to be "better" than his fellow men. Vinland challenges that perspective, proposing that true strength comes from your ability to care for others and create. To be able to leave the Earth in a better state than you found it, even if you contributed to it's ruin in the past, it's never too late to start making amends.
it made me feel hope for the first time in a very long time, i had always felt as though i could never undo what i had done in the past, and that is entirely true, what i have done will always remain a fact, but proving that i can do everything in my power to make it better is what truly matters. creating instead of destroying, caring instead of hating. it takes so much more strength to truly care for the world and people around you. who i was doesn't define who i am. maybe for others around me, but i know it's not true of myself. making amends and moving on is so much better than giving up and giving in. only wished i had realized it sooner.
I’m still very early on in reading it, but I also appreciate how Hell’s Paradise has a similar theme of men NOT having to be unthinking, unfeeling vessels of anger and violence. Vinland Saga is a masterpiece and it's such a shame to see people get filtered by the slower pace and less action of the 2nd season. The whole point of the story from the very first chapter is "fighting is bad". It's a story about humanity.
I've been thinking this since I was little. "Hate" is such a strong negative emotion and to harbour that throughout your every day will just make you feel more negative as a result. For the people that wrong you, channel that strong emotion into gratitude for the people that have stuck around with you, and pride in yourself for not letting a hater get the best of you.
I honestly think Vinland saga isn't just a fight/action show, it really sells the story with believable characters and their even smallest interactions. Great anime
Mackay fans be like "You have no enemies? Alas, you have been a coward in the fight." My brother in christ I've achieved the peace all true warriors strive for
I must say, I always like that this channel backs up some of the lessons with actual academic papers. …. although the sheer number of academic papers that are about or relevant to memes is surprising.
I love this anime/manga it’s my favorite for its writing and characters and what it teaches it’s viewers is very special. It’s awesome to see the series getting its due love from people now, not without its hate but if people go into it expecting an action anime they will be very disappointed as the main focal point is through the characters and writing as Makoto Yukimura has implied. The philosophies in how someone can change and be a “true warrior” through loving and appreciating life rather than squandering it by killing and hating is something truly special.
This meme is literally my role model. *_*Violence is never the answer. We can all get what we want, as long as nobody has to get hurt, physically, mentally, or emotionally.*_*
Vinland saga literally changed my life, I believed everything that hates you, that others hate, you have to hate too, no its different, life is too beautiful for us to be hating, there's no benefit in having enemies, I completely shifted and rocketed in my life because of this anime and line "I have no enemies"
I feel like a lot of good anime start off as shonen. Shonen is easier to market, so authors purposely dumb down the first few bits to introduce people to the manga and/or anime, and once it acquires a following, that’s when things hit the fan. Like Attack on Titan. It started off as a shonen, but nobody could have predicted it would turn into the complex story it is, even for manga readers.
Miyamoto Musashi: the most skilled swordsman of all time who also had no enemies. Fight not because you hate those before you, but because you love those behind you.
Man, I think it's just beautiful. This type of memes shows us that there are or just might be people who love each other, shows us irrational (in today's world) and peaceful type of human being. To be honest I watch these memes with big smile, because I seriously want to live like these people in these memes XD
I'll just leave this here. Since Vinland saga is a work of art and art is subject for interpretation, I think I will give my own here. I have no enemies is an ideal imo. It's something you may know is unobtainable. It just seems so unlikely especially the way we are now. Warring in comment sections like the disagreements we brook here will somehow affect us personally. For my personal journey I think adapting some form of pacifism is useful. I mean if say I was attacked of course I will defend myself. If someone attacks someone near and dear to me I will then try and pursue justice. But I will not actively seek out conflict nor hurt others who aren't even involved. I think having no enemies entails not making any more than what you already have. I may be rambling here but I can say that while I don't have any enemies per se. I can be more mindful of how I deal with people so I won't make more enemies.
When people say they have no enemies, I see many people take it the wrong way. They think “I have no enemies” means that said person doesn’t have anyone who hates them. Which is definitely not true. Just because someone hates you, doesn’t mean you have to hate them back.
Charles McKay's quote acknowledges the unavoidable fact that there will always be someone out there who does not share your worldview, who doesn't care for peace and tranquility, who will make themselves your enemy whether you want them to or not, and who will not settle for any version of defeat that falls short of their own destruction. It's a terrible truth, but it is the truth.
A lot of people don't realize that "You have no enemies, there is no one it's okay to hurt" is Thors message to a 6-year old child It's supposed to be simplified, extreme and not applicable to every single nuance in life because a child isn't ready for that yet
That's so stupid because people are just gonna hurt you. It's literally just turn the other cheek which is the dumbest part of Christianity. Turn the other cheek may seem like it's about forgiveness but that's not true. Turn the other cheek is about submission to evil as what it actually is is what would you do if you are slapped turn the other cheek and offer it to the slapper if somebody were to rob you and take your coat give them your shirt too etc. It's literally telling you to play a good rousing game of front hand back hand.
@@saiyanfang1047 These christians values are logical for the characters in the setting. The whole point of the story from the very first chapter is "fighting is bad". It's a story about humanity.
Yeah that segment of adult Thorfinn hallucinating the people he unalived is just a masterpiece
Don't worry they'll return during the baltic war arc because fighting good

After reading both the manga and watching the anime I can confirm that the qoute "I have no enemies" is the deepest qoute in Vinland saga.
Great anime

Vinland Saga is the only manga to ever make me cry and I’ve read a lot of seinen. Beautiful story.
"I have no enemies" mfs go real quiet when you hit them with "so pedos are youre allies"

Vinland saga literally changed my life, I believed everything that hates you, that others hate, you have to hate too, no its different, life is too beautiful for us to be hating, there's no benefit in having enemies, I completely shifted and rocketed in my life because of this anime and line

I've read the manga and I must say, thorfinn character development is one of the best I've seen thus far in shonen and seinen.
Might also be in writing but I would say there are more hidden gem waiting to discover out there
I feel like a lot of good anime start off as shonen.
I have no enemies
"You can go about life helping others instead of killing them" damn, why did noone tell me this sooner
I waited until the anime caught up to this panel because I'm not reading ahead til this season ends, and it was so worth it
Finally somebody made a video about that, I've started seeing this everywhere and was confused as hell
Most shounen is about wanting to be a strong person. Vinland saga is about wanting to be a person of strength.
Vinland saga is probably the best manga I’ve read in my entire life, Thorkell is truly the best girl

So happy that Peakland Saga is getting more recognition🗿
Charles McKay's quote acknowledges the unavoidable fact that there will always be someone out there who does not share your worldview, who doesn't care for peace and tranquility, who will make themselves your enemy whether you want them to or not, and who will not settle for any version of defeat that falls short of their own destruction. It's a terrible truth, but it is the truth.
A lot of people don't realize that "You have no enemies, there is no one it's okay to hurt" is Thors message to a 6-year old child
It's supposed to be simplified, extreme and not applicable to every single nuance in life because a child isn't ready for that yet
Oh wise wenli, please bless us with your wisdom
That's so stupid because people are just gonna hurt you. It's literally just turn the other cheek which is the dumbest part of Christianity. Turn the other cheek may seem like it's about forgiveness but that's not true. Turn the other cheek is about submission to evil as what it actually is is what would you do if you are slapped turn the other cheek and offer it to the slapper if somebody were to rob you and take your coat give them your shirt too etc. It's literally telling you to play a good rousing game of front hand back hand.
@@saiyanfang1047 These christians values are logical for the characters in the setting. Thors (Thorfinn's dad) was alive during the period known as the Christianization of Denmark (which was during Canute's ancestors reign). Even if you find it "naive" is something chronologically correct for a character to suddenly adopt such philosophy, and in the story is used by the author to explain Thorfinn's motivation to flee to Vinland. It's not about applying this to your daily life basis, is about how it makes sense for these characters to feel this way.
@@ardenorcrush649 Yeah it's logical. I wasn't talking about how it's dumb that they have christian beliefs. Just how dumb turn the other cheek is as a concept.
