You know it’d be awesome if this is foreshadowing Gohan using his studies to figure out something about Saipan transformations that brings him to a new level of power. Like a level beyond beast. It would justify his “not training for years to focus on research” if it actually had a hugely relevant impact later in the story
Considerably beast is supposed to be an evolution of his mystic form, he’s consistently reached new forms past the cell saga despite his dissolution of transitioning into the main character during that time. Within the manga, whis mentions his beast form is not either of a diety energy nor a saiyan one but one of its own entirely. Respectably it can be referred to as the super saiyan form of mystic gohan almost. Though it’s not directly referred to as such it’s almost clearly an example of it considering in chapter 103 he was able to stand toe to toe with goku as well as a controlled state broly.
Not quite on the same level, but in the Xenoverse timeline it's explicitly stated that Gohan writing a book about ki control is what causes it to become commonplace to humans about a 100 years later. In a sense he makes it so humanity can fend for themselves eventually.

From an external narrative writing perspective, yes it is forever a pity how Gohan gets sidelined and the series just becomes The Goku Power Hour. From an internal world perspective though, it's wonderful that he just gets to live the life he always wanted. He may have had the heart of a hero, but he never wanted to be a fighter, only a scholar And now he gets to live his dream and be happy.

As someone who considers ‘The Cell Arc’ to be one of the best Dragon Ball storylines ever made it’s super disappointing to me how Gohan goes from being to defeat Perfect Cell at only 11 years old and yet as a grown man he was bested by heavy Namekian clothing AND was barely able to survive against Freiza when he did better on Namek itself, tbh I blame Chi Chi more than anyone else especially for how he’s turned out as an adult

I have a feeling that Sai-ants is gonna be a narrative device to push Gohan to further dabble in the field of transformation. Something like this prolly: - Gohan finding out about Sai-ants, making him curious if there's other earth creature that can also tranform and whether Human actually have the capability but just never been discovered before. - Then DBSSH happened, Gohan got Beast mode - Gohan try to find out about what is beast mode excatly - Beast mode turn out to be something that came from his human side (to finally fulfill all his yap about achieving form that derive from his human heritage) This can be the way to make Gohan go in line with his DBO counter part, but instead of just writing about Ki he also write about transformation and how to achieve it.
To be fair, Xenoverse has their own canon on that (before DB Super was written). Xenoverse taking place in the far future so a lot of stories we're seeing is either flashbacks or Trunks going into the past. Gohan was researching Ki energy specifically so humanity could stop being skeptical about Ki energy (Hercule didn't help to be fair). Eventaully got proven and he even got a Nobel peace prize. So all humans basically learn to fly and use Ki. Also Goku and Vegeta's kids and decendents effectively after a few hundred years turn most of the planet into Hyrbids and apparently, it doesn't matter how diluted the Saiyan gene gets, you can transform into SSJ. The human race becomes somewhat of a warrior race now with all the Saiyan Hybrids running about.

This new look is the best Gohan has looked since he was a teen. He’s by far my favorite character, someone who is more than a fighter. I can’t wait for the story to finally return him to the main light.
The Piccolo/Gohan arc is definitely the best one to have emerged from DB. Love the relationship these two have. Definitely a teacher/student or father/son vibe.

You know it’d be awesome if this is foreshadowing Gohan using his studies to figure out something about Saipan transformations that brings him to a new level of power. Like a level beyond beast. It would justify his “not training for years to focus on research” if it actually had a hugely relevant impact later in the story
Considerably beast is supposed to be an evolution of his mystic form, he’s consistently reached new forms past the cell saga despite his dissolution of transitioning into the main character during that time. Within the manga, whis mentions his beast form is not either of a diety energy nor a saiyan one but one of its own entirely. Respectably it can be referred to as the super saiyan form of mystic gohan almost. Though it’s not directly referred to as such it’s almost clearly an example of it considering in chapter 103 he was able to stand toe to toe with goku as well as a controlled state broly.
Not quite on the same level, but in the Xenoverse timeline it's explicitly stated that Gohan writing a book about ki control is what causes it to become commonplace to humans about a 100 years later. In a sense he makes it so humanity can fend for themselves eventually.

From an external narrative writing perspective, yes it is forever a pity how Gohan gets sidelined and the series just becomes The Goku Power Hour.
From an internal world perspective though, it's wonderful that he just gets to live the life he always wanted. He may have had the heart of a hero, but he never wanted to be a fighter, only a scholar And now he gets to live his dream and be happy.

Yeah I agree. As much as I wonder what the franchise would have been like had Toriyama passed on the torch to Gohan, I'm honestly glad he didn't in the end. Gohan deserves every bit of the happy ending that he got instead of the fate that originally awaited him in Future Trunk's timeline.Not only that, but Goku had simply become too much of an icon at that point. Nobody, not even his own sons could have replaced him without some backlash happening.

Piccolo initially wanted to use Gohan as a mere minion in his global conquest, yet over time gradually formed a bond of friendship with the young half-Saiyan. Some might argue that Piccolo has only grown softer in taking care of Gohan's daughter, yet it seems apparent that neither Piccolo or Gohan will pull any punches when their friends and loved ones are threatened.

As someone who considers ‘The Cell Arc’ to be one of the best Dragon Ball storylines ever made it’s super disappointing to me how Gohan goes from being to defeat Perfect Cell at only 11 years old and yet as a grown man he was bested by heavy Namekian clothing AND was barely able to survive against Freiza when he did better on Namek itself, tbh I blame Chi Chi more than anyone else especially for how he’s turned out as an adult
Doesn't really matter because Gohan never liked fighting, regardless of Chi Chi's influence. He always had a more gentle nature and he ends up being way stronger than he ever was as a kid with his Beast form.

I have a feeling that Sai-ants is gonna be a narrative device to push Gohan to further dabble in the field of transformation. Something like this prolly:
- Gohan finding out about Sai-ants, making him curious if there's other earth creature that can also tranform and whether Human actually have the capability but just never been discovered before.
- Then DBSSH happened, Gohan got Beast mode
- Gohan try to find out about what is beast mode excatly
- Beast mode turn out to be something that came from his human side (to finally fulfill all his yap about achieving form that derive from his human heritage)
This can be the way to make Gohan go in line with his DBO counter part, but instead of just writing about Ki he also write about transformation and how to achieve it.
To be fair, Xenoverse has their own canon on that (before DB Super was written). Xenoverse taking place in the far future so a lot of stories we're seeing is either flashbacks or Trunks going into the past.
Gohan was researching Ki energy specifically so humanity could stop being skeptical about Ki energy (Hercule didn't help to be fair). Eventaully got proven and he even got a Nobel peace prize. So all humans basically learn to fly and use Ki. Also Goku and Vegeta's kids and decendents effectively after a few hundred years turn most of the planet into Hyrbids and apparently, it doesn't matter how diluted the Saiyan gene gets, you can transform into SSJ. The human race becomes somewhat of a warrior race now with all the Saiyan Hybrids running about.
