After my dad retired he started raising chickens from the egg on. When they hatched they saw him as a parent and the stray dog he had a normal. Dad, dog, and chickens all left out in the morning for what area they would be working. No fences just all doing their thing
Nest box conundrums. I switched to community nesting because the chickens insisted on laying together, so don't fight them on it, encourage it. My favorite nest boxes are 55 gal plactic drums cut in half with a U shaped cutout for entry/exit. You could not pay me to switch back to single nests. Your girls will thank you for the company they have while providing lots of space to maneuver inside the community nest box. Chicken nerd from PA spreading word for the ladies happiness!
I'm in the debating stage, considering whether my busy work life would hinder my ability to properly bring chickens to my property or not. You shared more information in this 47-minute lecture than I've collected in countless hours of web researching. Thank you for sharing. Excellent video, excellent instructor.
Thanks so much for taking time to watch, think through the process, and consider what your land is able to sustain. Really appreciate the feedback and am glad the information was helpful to you.
I’ve got three chickens Charlie’s angels all girls older the rooster is done with them. He went back next-door every morning. I let them out after sleeping perch. They run around close to 4 acres on their own trees, fruit trees, piles of mulch from tree trimmers and live their best life. They work all day long, spread that stuff around all over the yard and walk back in their party area and I shut the door and let them out in the morning and do it all over again, also have lots of millipedes spreading around lots of Milla Poo !
@@permaculturefxI’m new to everything. Could you tell me why you use cracked corn in your fermenting feed? I’m in 10a zone in Florida and I’ve always heard corn heats them up.
Great info for beginner chicken keepers. It would be helpful when people are asking questions if you could either give them a microphone or repeat the question for the listeners - we can't hear them asking the questions. Thanks
As a multi generational farmer, wearing the same clothes does not work, animals are much smarter than that. Only reason we wear the same clothes is cos that what we got, wear them till they wear out and then get some more, not because its for visual for animals 😂. You're over thinking it bud
Thank you, so much valuable information packed in this video. Great job.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
