"Brandon, this is what you'd look like if you were sick at drums"
lolol
JD is the future. His playing is so fun and exciting. You can tell he’s really just being himself.
I love him, can't get enough of his playing. Just need MORE of reactions of him!!
Wait so is she.
I’ve listened to quite a few reactions to these two and yours was by far one of the best. Give yourself more credit: you’re not just a *drum* teacher, you’re a full-blow *music* teacher, and a good teacher in general. Not only did you react to DOMi’s insane playing as well, you also took the time to teach us something about their playing, their musical background, the music industry, jazz itself, etc.
Thank you! That comment made my day
@@JunkdrummerTV You're welcome! It's us who have to thank you for your explainers. ;)
And you know what, I'm giving you another challenge… How about you react to something a wee bit different (but still on the jazzy spectrum): Clown Core. It's a project not at all (*cough*) made up of Louis Cole (from Knower) and his friend Sam Gendel. You might want to check songs such as Hell or Existence, especially the videoclip versions (they're a whole thing in and of themselves).
Louis Cole and Sput from Snarky Puppy mentor the both of these two escaped government projects.
As well as mike Mitchell of Stanley Clarke and cleon edwards of Erykah Badu
DOMi is just like 20 as well. Have multiple degrees with highest honors from the Conservatory in Nancy (yeah she’s French lol). She graduated from Berklee this year too
This "if the amen break could improvise" vibe you mentioned is actually the main idea of a style called Breakcore which is probably the biggest influence for JD's drumming on this particular cut at least.
If you hear a track by Squarepusher you'll find that what he's doing with programmed beats and samples is basically what JD does on real drums.
THANK YOU. was wondering why i love JD's drumming so damn much, being a breakcore listener and all.
100% Hard Normal Daddy is the birthplace programming it is hard enough, but playing it. wow
now you HAVE to react to jd’s zildjian live
Incredible performance! Infact why not that whole series so far!! 🤣
@@Duckvan79 fair, once I watched his Zildgian video I started watching the rest LOL good stuff
I have watched that video over 10 times its great
"can we do 230" ....... oh lord , that kid
JD Beck does a great real-life Aphex Twin impersonation.
Things you don’t hear everyday. That dude has an amazing left hand! lol
“There is always purpose behind everything you’re hearing”..... that’s such a beautiful way to describe music in general!
This Kid has the BEST breakbeat programmed but still organic feel.
Yes, was looking forward to this video! I think JD is one of the drummers of tomorrow, but you can tell that he learned from the drummers from yesterday and today (I've seen a video of this duo opening their set with Giant Steps). He's already so incredibly mature with his playing, I'm so excited what we get to hear from these cats in the future. DOMi is just a little older, like 19 or 20. Really digging this duo.
Thank you so much for this video! JD and DOMi are coming out with an album soon and I can't wait. They're good friends with Thundercat, Anderson Paak, and Louis Cole so we might see some features from them who knows.
Check out a vid on kenny beats channel, jd domi n thundercat play towards the end
@@Drabee i saw that stream live haha, i'm a big kenny beats fan and tbh he put me on to JD and DOMi
Looking forward tot that Album. Totally addicted...
I asked domi about maybe covering a clowncore song or album and she said she and jd beck are doing a live show with them in LA
The song "Skate" by "Silk Sonic" (Bruno Mars/Anderson Paak's project) features JD Beck on it.
Thank you - i know zero about music, but this conversation is Still, very interesting!
And, I Do love JD and Domi - have know about them for awhile...❤
I love that the song they are playing is called "U can sniff my butt" but Nord didnt want to put that as the title so its just called "Sniff" JD and Domi are young and weird and immature but they are already grown past most musicians.
DOMi went to Berklee and graduated this year, and JD Beck just graduated from high school. I found them through KennyBeats' Twitch Streams. Super inspirational duo
I really enjoyed your review. Thank you.
Listened to several drummers react to JD. This one is the best so far. Steve actually goes into the meat of what's going on, rather than endless surprise smirks and smiles at JD's supreme talent.
Nice, been waiting for this. So impressed by the both of them, have big hopes for their coming album.
6:02 While he doesn't seem to reference it in interviews, a lot of commenters bring up that what he plays is basically drum & bass or jungle.
I'll go even more specific; he plays drumfunk. It's an obscure microgenre of minimalistic drum & bass producers who cut-up and rearrange breakbeats in 170+ bpm, making sure it sounds as organic and naturalistic as possible. Like an extended drumsolo. Like the song 'Ghost Notes' by Paradox.
JD Beck does the exact same thing from the other direction. He often goes out of his way to make his organic drumset sound as synthetic as possible, with those heavily "gated" snares. And then plays these 170+ bpm broken beats.
I really appreciate your commentary. Really interesting and something most reactions don't have on this level.
Lovely to hear you speak while the video is playing. Only people who have rythm can speak clearly together with the music. And you can hear both... love it
"If the amen break could improvise, that's what that would sound like"
I know next to nothing about drums, but when I heard this song for the first time that's exactly what I thought!
You should do a reaction to King Krule's drummer George Bass, their npr tiny desk is a great example of his skill
Mental drummer. Had the pleasure of seeing them a couple times. Pure energy. :)
my god i couldnt agree more, guy is a beast
This is the best reaction on YT. I needed someone to give me a deeper understanding. Thanks. Instant Sub.
so glad to see this. i was one of the many who asked for this! thank you!
Falling in love with music, always discovering tunes, man.
Love your passion and commentary dude! Keep up the content!
I've been waiting for this one for a minute
Awesome review!! Entertaining and educational !
loved this video. thanks!
Liked, Subscribed and Added to my personal library collection. I can listen to innovators All. Day. Long, but hearing this kind of informed analysis is the REAL education I need!
Thank you!!
Way to drop these kids some props. They are hope for the future.
Very interesting views and analysis. Thank you! I agree that "the kids are alright."
@Junkdrummer TV I got to say I love this guy, a very cool cat. I'm talking about you. Such a truly refreshing take on the future of Jazz.
I love all kinds of music from pop to folk to rock to Penderecki to fusion. These two right now have captured my attention big time. They've got something special going on. Also since you mentioned young drummers with natural talent maybe see a young drummer named Yoyoka doing her cover of _YYZ_ by Rush (a one take shot with no cuts that really showcases her skills). She also just co-wrote her first original composition, _Sparkling,_ with musians who have previously played with Prince and Dream Theater. At age 12. She is recognized as a serious up and comer by many well known musicians.
Back in the day, just to also call it Drum 'n Bass, late 80's early 90's :)
i already loved JD, i love this dude explaining his genius more!
damn man that was a really good review. Best one i've heard !
Thank you very much!
Perrin Moss from Hiatus Kaiyote
Awesome, love all your vids whatever genre. Looking forward to another jimmy the rev sullivan almost easy studio video.🤘🤘🤘
Soonly
Thank you for noticing domi’s talent as well. Theyre both so so talented
Agree with your thoughts on jazz moving forward. Thanks
Ok, that was great. Thank you.
You GOTTA check out the Zildjian live with JD Beck. Absolutely MENTAL
This teachers lovin it 😊
Nice episode! I just subscribed to your channel.
Great review
Wow. These kids are talented.
I'm about to see these two open for Polyphia. I'm gonna have to sell every instrument I own by the end of the concert.
If you never heard the amen break, you’ve literally never listened to hip hop
Or literally any Drum n bass song
Oh yes, man you talk out of my heart....grew up with those cheesy record functionaries
At ~ 6:05, he mentions a term - does he say, "the amen break"???
He mentions a lot of musicians I've never heard of - quite interesting...
Their amazing. Jd is like squarepusher /aphex beats come to life (as close as possible)
I don't know what you mean, but I've read the same of what another person has said about JD's style.
Domi also playing pedal board for bass line
Appreciate the content so i bought a tank top. Hopefully you see a couple pennies of that sale haha.
Nice!
OOOOOH FINALLY
niiiiiiiiiice, I love this DnB Jojo Mayer like style
First thing I thought about when I heard him play was Jojo.
I have a feeling JD Beck is inspired by Aphex Twin and Squarepusher...
amazing reaction!
nice to hear some deeper thoughts + insights, rather than the usual "sit there and react saying nothing"
We don't do that mess round here.
How about a reaction to Matt Horn from The Word Alive performing Hounds of Anubis. There are two great videos out there, one being a live video where drums are isolated and one where he seems to be playing at home. The latter would probably be a good starting point so you can hear the whole musical range of the song. Cheers!
amazing!!! you should react to Dan mayo
6:31 I hear more Squarepusher and Tony Williams when I hear JD Beck.
I love how this intimidated teacher sums it up to, “James Brown with a great left hand”, and EDM gatekeepers say, “he’s just doing what Sqarepusher was already doing”. But I love how no one mentions the fact that Sqarepusher couldn’t actually perform live. Every time he tried, he failed miserably. Which is why he went back to performing digitally every time he failed at playing in an analog context. Then Soulwax came along. So in the end, you’re saying JD Beck was inspired by DJ’s? You’re right
He sounds like he might be inspired by drum and bass tecno. Those breaks jam.
A while back my coworker told me about his son's friend that said to him that he didn't like music with instruments in it. These two are restoring my faith in the youth.
Does the guy only listen to choir music? How can someone not like music with instruments
@@koifish528 Apparently he only liked trap music
@@danneu8 What a strange guy
Hey Steve check out Alien Weaponry the cimbels are down drums are level just the way you like any song thier from New Zealand they sing in native launuage of Moari they touch your soul.
Look up Stepario siberiano, you wont get disappointed, that guy is one of the best on youtube rightnow
epic
shoutout brandon
Imagine having that Dexterity
I'd like to see a reaction to Marcus Gilmore. His Zildjian Live is great
As a Musician you just know that look
JD didn't listen to James Brown. He started with Tony Williams videos, watched all those then went backwards through all the jazz drummers. Added that to Dilla beats, that is the funk influence.
Nobody is doing what JD is doing not even this drummer...not in his wildest dreams🤣🤣🤣🤣
He definitely needs to look up Louis Cole
He's only gotten crazier tightness and really plays around with his kit. 2-3 snares, loose splashes on the heads.
I think it's time you reacted to Aquiles Priester. I recommend anything from the temple of shadows. He has some play throughs on his channel, but I think you should check out his version of through the fire and flames by Dragonforce.
oh yeah, and don't forget Igor Cavalera AND Eloy Casagrande, both of which I've been asking you to analyse for a year now I think. Come on maaaan notice us senpai
@@PsicodeliaAlternativa Oh yeah no wonder Eloy is so great, he was taught by Aquiles. Igor is really good aswell but I think Eloy is better. Not by a lot but i think he's better.
@@SeandaleDingle he sure is better imo too but also imo igor gave us heavier sounds, the same heaviness I get from listening to vinnie paul play
@@PsicodeliaAlternativa I remember seeing a video of Vinnie play and his snare sounded like a gun is was just so heavy. Vinnie was pretty damn good it's a shame him and Dime ar dead they were great musicians.
Please react to Roger Taylor moments live from the Hammersmith odeon 1975 love his drumming
This was awesome
Check out Chris turner next
Tomorrow
React to Matt Greiner from August Burns Red playing Paramount
First time viewer here . You look like Les Stroud . Has that been said before?
I wish I was that cool
In my humble opinion, he sounds "just" jungle/drum and bass style than anything else
If you are this good you get free instruments.
people like these videos for the dummer boy but lets all be honest here, they keybord girl is the true star of this duo, she plays bass also at the same time by the way. she is REALLY amazing, the dummer boy is fine but her....holy shit
you might be smoking too much weed. they're both amazing
I mean they're both amazing. The reason jd gets all the attention is because he has a distinct style. Domi does too but she sounds pretty in line with most great keyboardists. Regardless, they both deserve attention.
@@JaredAfrica i am indeed. this home office thingis killing my stash
React to Brandon Saller of Atreyu
did he mention blast beats? blast beats
*break beats
You know he’s a good guy when he calls them cats
React to Slipknot's Jay Weinberg Killpop video on Zildjian Cymbals RUclips Channel
I did a Jay video. Please check it out!!
It's breakbeat drumming.

Sure they can!!
You are a teacher, but you cannot set up your microphone correctly to be proper gain...
You are a commenter and can't set up for proper English
good drummer, but way too many notes and fills, somethimes less is more
Yeah, keyword on sometimes. This isn’t rock, it’s mainly modern jazz, but even JD and domi don’t know what genre their music is. Regardless, it is incredibly original, initiative, and unique. Putting a fat rock beat, while great in most situations, would dismantle everything that makes their music amazing. JD is a world class musician, who makes a musical choice on every single note.
@@professoralexburnerofstone they know exactly what genre their music is. They’re going off of what J Dilla was doing with the mpc. It’s hip hop, which is heavily influenced by jazz. It’s difficult for me to believe that any musician wouldn’t know where they’re coming from
