Dare was formed in 1985 by Darren Wharton after Thin Lizzy had broken up. 2009 saw the release of Dare's sixth studio album 'Arc Of The Dawn' and from which "Emerald" is taken.
This version is so bloody damn great that I get goosebump. This version is on my setlist as a troubadoure I can tell you. So Great! I'm also a singer, guitarist and a songwriter in a Heavy Metal band called Nordic Mist. And we have a metal song named Highlander, very much inspired from Gary Moore and Phil Lynotts original version of thos song. Such a bloody great song!!!!🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
I think the same that you. He is a keyboard player, and these people have in their minds almost always great melodies, worse also with his voice, it is a whole special harmonic ensemble. Maybe they don't pay attention to live shows; I have seen him several times and they go down a little bit when listening to disk, but as soon as I can: I've been looping their songs for years.
DARE made my life in happy moments and gave me comfort during my darkest hours. The most wonderful music that exists on this planet. I love you Darren ....
Few remember that Daren was in Thin Lizzy first as a studio musician for them when they used keyboards once and a while on the odd tune, and then as a full member the last few years.
This is one of my favorite songs from Thin Lizzy. 1988 covered by Gary Moore too. I like all 3 versions, because a good song stays a good song, however someone else plays it.
Have recently found this fabullos group on RUclips, and finding them soo outstanding. Once listened, the music and lyrics stays forever in your heart and soul. 👌😀😚
Jesus........................How good was that! Just cruising the Tube and thought I'd look up Brian Cox, the 'everyday mans scientist'. I was curious to find out his musical background. I ended up here to find out he was in an band with ex Lizzy member, Darren W. also a keyboard player. How cool. Great version of a classic Lizzy tune.............
Wonderful Darren your a great musician I feel the passion dude , a proper nice guy too I met you at The Apollo in Manchester a few times , keep doing what you do, Carl
"Emerald" Down from the glen came the marching men With their shields and their swords To fight the fight they believed to be right Overthrow the overlords To the town where there was plenty They brought plunder, swords and flame When they left the town was empty Children would never play again From their graves I heard the fallen Above the battle cry By that bridge near the border There were many more to die Then onward over the mountain And outward towards the sea They had come to claim the Emerald Without it they could not leave
DARE.. as to Ose in French... or There..ICI ?. or OZ the magician and his fix... and it's great fun hearing and seeing in multidimensions :-D on the M. Road..939
Too bad Thin Lizzy didn't let Daren take over lead vocals when Phil sadly passed. They might of stayed almost as big as ever. Wouldn't of been the same obviously but damn Daren has pipes, who knew.
Very few Coversongs exist that i like more than the Original ... Hendrix 'All along the Watchtower' ... and defenitive this one ! Phil was amazing but this is ...
Oh, ,,Dare,,... my eternal, everlasting love... Your songs are so passionate, sensual, gorgeous, stunning !!! ❤❤❤❤❤😊

Great song and great solo 3:10
Great band and I love Daren's voice, can never understand why they aren't more popular in the UK.
Because the majority are sheep, they have no taste and listen to shite.
They are xx

Because UK music press basically only likes public school kids with long greasy hair who can't play guitars or keyboards.
@@janet_bristow U.K. music business seems to be more keen on rap or unmelodious rants than quality well written meaningful pieces.
One of Lynotts finest rockers, a show stopper for Lizzie, with Robertson & Gorham. Beautifully Redone as a Celtic ballad..
fabulous song, love it, great voice.
if you have heart and soul................you can feel the rithm :)
DARE made my life in happy moments and gave me comfort during my darkest hours. The most wonderful music that exists on this planet. I love you Darren ....

Brian Cox isn't on this track though, he'd left by the time this album was recorded.

"Emerald"
Down from the glen came the marching men
With their shields and their swords
To fight the fight they believed to be right
Overthrow the overlords
To the town where there was plenty
They brought plunder, swords and flame
When they left the town was empty
Children would never play again
From their graves I heard the fallen
Above the battle cry
By that bridge near the border
There were many more to die
Then onward over the mountain
And outward towards the sea
They had come to claim the Emerald
Without it they could not leave

If I didn't already know and love the Lizzy version so much I'd probably have a better opinion of this but can't shake the original out my head.
Understandable, I am sure Darren had a heavy heart, towards his former bandmate when Dare covered this.
Very few Coversongs exist that i like more than the Original ... Hendrix 'All along the Watchtower' ... and defenitive this one ! Phil was amazing but this is ...
