Really appreciate the breakdown on these. I managed to get these, and the needle nose, which are incredible to use. For the normal msrp i could see spending a few bucks more for the knipex but for $7.50 its worth it to try them out. Thanks for the great videos
Not in stock at my Lowe’s, in stock at one not too far away but no way to know if they’re on clearance there, for $7 it’s a steal, at $17 really good, at $30 maybe not, like you said another $20 and you’ve got the Knipex, nice review!
@ I ordered them through your Amazon affiliate link 🍻 at $17 pretty good with free shipping, supposedly in stock at another Lowe’s nearby but not worth the time and gas to save $10 IF it’s even on clearance there
What you pay for in Knipex is the quality steel and heat treating on the jaws. Project Farm has done tests with Corbras and the hands down bite harder and last longer than the competition.
Not seen these from Wiha. I have a set from Armeg which just have a piston in place of the linkage on the Wiha and close against that, no spring opening though like the Gearwrench. The Armeg look to be the same as the set from Husky and a Hautmec set on Amazon.
I've been doing construction work and automobile repairs since the 80s. I bought and just about every manufacturer out there. Up until about 7 years ago when I found Knipex. I was completely blown away. I have not tried the Whia pliers. But I won't be because why would I try to take something that cannot be beaten. I would much rather spend a little bit more money one time then make the mistakes I've been making for the last three to four decades. I also have the quick set Knipex, not the auto set that you have. I'm not all that impressed with it(the flashy red paint around the button almost immediately came off😂). The regular Cobras are good enough.
@MORGANSMaintenance Yeah, it’s difficult for me to buy anything other than Knipex for water pump pliers. If I had seen the Wihas for $7, I definitely would’ve picked them up though.
A little background wiha pliers are almost all made in Vietnam. Try do what wiha does with the cech republic but not nearly good or bad. I've had a handful of power cuts needle nose ect and there fine. Even vessel and fujia have a Vietnam plant for the armor line and some cheaper models.
i once bought some Wiha round nose pliers thinking I was getting something made in Germany and got a product labeled Made in SROV. Took me a while to figure out what that meant. They were ok made for the price, but definitely not German precision feeling. After that it kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. Many German brands are not actually made in Germany; lots are made in Czechia, Poland, China, Taiwan, etc. Maybe I'm just biased because I don't think of Vietnam when I think about nice tools, even if they are "Made to DIN standards".
Yes and made in Germany doesn’t always mean good even with Knipex.Knipex have some pliers that are worse than cheaper competitors (long nose pliers, locking pliers, some wire striping pliers etc.).
@@thomasbrown9402 imIt seems to be the case with a lot of tool manufacturers. I’ve had some tools made in all sorts of places that are great to use and complete garbage. That’s why I forget to mention the country of origin a lot, I rarely look at it. I will try a tool wherever it’s made if I think it’s useful. I will say there is a better chance of a tool being great or garbage sometimes based on where it is made, but not 100%. So it is definitely worth looking at if you are between two tools.
BTW... The KNIPEX plastic jaw covers will work with the Crescent 6" auto adjust pliers; so if you a are home DIY and need to occasionally work on a plumbing fixture and not mar it then here's a quick work around.
I have the Crescent, which appears to have an identical mechanism to the GearWrench; honestly, I don't like them, because of the manual finagling that's needed, often even if you're going back to the same size. I used mine on a sink cleanout, and they were a PITA; these Wiha look much better, and for that price, I'll likely pick some up when I see them. It may not be worth a special trip. but I'll pick them up sooner or later. The Crescent will go into an overflow bag or drawer, unlikely to get much use.
@@OnusBones that’s where my Gearwrench are 😂… but once you go Knipex it’s hard to use something else. For the price the Gearwrench and Cresent probably aren’t bad overall if it’s all you want to spend… but definitely better options out there
@@MORGANSMaintenance I'd rather have the Milwaukee channel-locks that everyone hates; at least I can set them to a size and they stay there; fine for cleanouts and toilet bolts.
At that price it would buy a pair or 2 of each for kicks. I got the bolt biter set from gearwrench on a hd special for 20ish dollars one day. It came with the screwdrivers thoes pliers and the sockets. The pliers are medium garbage 🗑 but enough to put into my work mechanics box but not enough to use. I think a regular pair of cobras might just be the best option for people instead of spending up another 20ish dollars. If a pair of knipex auto adjustment came cheap enough sure!
All of the Knipex knockoffs just make them (Knipex) look that much more impressive. 😂 But at $17 they’ve discounted it just enough that you could get one and a regular cobra for about the price of the adjustable cobras. That does seem about right.
I've been using the Wiha pair about a year. The rubber clip pisses me off and always gets in the way. Knipex auto adjust is the best. Knipex has more torque in my hand.
Those Wihas look like a cheap knock-off made by a drunken machinist apprentice. Knipex is so much more elegant that it's hilarious. As for Gearwrench I practically stopped using self adjusting feature, because this sliding mechanism allows me to adjust it with one hand mostly. I'm glad that you made this review.
Nope…you nailed it…Knipex wins hands down (pun unintended)…but I too would have bought them for $7.50 😂😂😂
$17.50 isn’t bad either… but if I went $30, I’d pay more for Knipex
