- Aidan, Gaynor and Sophie watch Chris Stapleton's performance of the national anthem at the Super Bowl. They also take a look at his live performance of Tennessee Whiskey.
As an Englishman, when you understand the meaning and the history of "The Star Spangled Banner" that performance takes on a whole another meaning and you can see why people get so emotional about it... Chris made that rendition about the song rather than about himself.

The coach was crying because of the national anthem itself. He does not forget how precious the freedoms we have in the USA are. He spoke about his tears after the game. He wasn't the only one crying either. start with a "1" and add about 8 zeros to the end of it.
I loved the all-woman flyover.
That was historical! Chris Stapleton brought emotion and "meaning" to the song. People actually "felt" the lyrics! People were whooping and cheering, others were swaying and crying. I have never seen anything like this!
I've been at a country festival for 3 days and they played this exact video over the speakers and on the big screens with a flyover from our local air force base and it was something I can't explain. That entire field went silent, hats came off, grown men cried, and it was the biggest eruption of applause of the entire event at the end.

Not bad for a man with severe stage fright! He was well respected as a songwriter in Nashville and it was his wife who convinced him to sing. She is the one singing with him in the video. Great reaction!!
I'm not sure where you heard that from, but he doesn't have stage fright, he was lead singer for the "steeldrivers" before his solo career . he's spent the last 15 years on stage.

As a retired U.S. combat vet, serving 20 yrs with the Air Force, in Iraq three times, Kuwait, Okinawa, Diego Garcia, Philippines (where I live full time now), and many other places, the flag IS the symbol, period! I thank you for taking such an interest, and for showing such a respectful attitude! Even tho U.S. citizens, and UK citizens have many differences, we have far more in common!

Chris has a very smooth, rich, relaxing and soulful voice.
I'll grant the guy has a powerful voice but I just don't hear what all the hype is over. Honestly, you could stomp on a cats tail and it sound just the same.

His wife really has such a beautiful voice, and could easily have her own career if she desired too… I think she just prefers to sing backup for him on his tour. She does however did a remake of the song “You are my sunshine” with him singing back up, that y’all should check out!

You would be surprised how many Americans keep interrupting the national anthem to insert their comments when doing a reaction video to Chris Stapleton singing at the super bowl. Thanks for not interrupting and showing such respect. Love the flag in the background. As far as the coach crying, a lot of people get emotional when they listen to the national anthem especially when the singer’s voice reaches into your soul.
Not to mention being in the Super Bowl for the first time.

I'm a 69 year old lady in North Carolina and I can honestly state that I've NEVER heard it sing better BY ANY ONE‼ There are a lot of us Americans who feel that his performance did more to promote peace & unity in the USA than the majority of the politicians in Washington, DC‼☮ ❤ 🎶

I read that the coach had been fired as an asst. coach a couple years before from the other team, for him to be there as a head coach hearing the national anthem was a overload of emotion.

The lady is Morgane Stapleton, his wife. She has a beautiful voice also. Gaynor, let me know if you ever are in Nashville & I will try to get tickets for the Grand Ole Opry. Chris plays the Opry several times every year. I live just south of Nashville & have seen him live. He is amazing. I also love TN Whiskey but he has several songs that are even better. The studio recordings buff out this tiny scratchiness in his voice that is just beautiful. That's his wife, Morgane, singing backup. They have 5 kids together. I love it when they do "You Are My Sunshine" together. Another good one is "I Hope You Dance" from the St. Jude's Radiothon.
Also "More of You" from the Tiny Desk concert.
We Kentuckians love to claim Chris Stapleton. Him using his VIP power to help with the flood victims in Eastern KY was phenomenal and a true testament to his character and love of humanity.
The coach on the sideline who was crying said that he always had imagined since he was young of standing in the Super Bowl singing the National Anthem. So he was emotional when it actually happened in this Super Bowl. 😢

As an American I obviously love our national anthem. I really wish other countries either had better anthems than they do or portrayed them differently. The American anthem has literally become a weird like universal pop song sand in a thousand different ways. People thought Jimmy Hendrix playing it with an electric guitar just 50 years ago thought it was sacrilegious. Step up your anthem game world lol

Just watched your video. Stapleton did a very moving rendition of that song, almost as if he were there. He's mad great singer, guitar player and songwriter. He wrote the song Adele covered "If It Hadn't Been for Love" when he was with a Bluegrass band called the Steeldrivers. He kills it, too.

I will always stand, even if it's someone else singing it. Our history is far from perfect, but will always honor those that serve, and have served to give all of us the right to express our opinions. Chris Stapleton rules!! And that's his wife!

Around 2:10 approx. I loved how he poured in extra gorgeous notes descending. Prior to that he sang Low. Than sang High then going back down is where part of his magic is. His Range is fabulous. His short voice accented jabs that captured everyone.
The game was great too. That QB Mahomes is probably the greatest ever

Hard time breathing and "something" in my eyes. This song is the most emotional song for Americans and Chris did it a lot of justice. It is as sad as it is inspirational, telling the story of our resolve and the people before us who had given their lives for our freedoms. Yhe number 1 GW said it best, The American people would rather die on their feet, than live in servitude, on their knees.
Gaynor looks like she does what most of us "Yanks" do, batting eyelashes holding back tears during this rendition.

Chris is ALWAYS better live. Been to two concerts and the reaction videos are best to live performances. There are a lot of his live performances on you tube. The woman is his wife Morgane, mother of their five children!
The lady singing with Chris is his wife Morgane. And in my opinion Chris Stapleton is one of the few singers who always sounds better live, because it seems he always puts more of himself and more energy into singing in front of his fans. His studio recordings are technically very good, but they don't have the grit and rawness of his lives.

Whitney is always #1 from back in the 90's such power in her voice.. but Chris is my # 2 of all time.... he sang it with soul... just amazing.. I've been watching Super Bowls for probably 40 yrs now... you cannot come close to Whitney and Chris.

That lady is his wife!
Something fundamentally unique about the star spangled banner, in comparison to other national anthems, is the versatility of the lyrics. With the help of the versatility of the lyrics and sheer number of times an American has heard that song and the ceremonial way in which we constantly use it, leaves so much room for artist expression and emotion and it literally never sounds or carries the same weight twice.
I can't tell you how many times I've rolled my eyes at pop singers and such who are actively singing for American idol or the voice. It feels weightless. It's pretty common to have members of the armed forces sing as well. Sometimes very poorly. What matters is the song and the delivery, not the performance.
The star spangled banner is good but I gotta admit that the russian National Anthem sounds much better
His wife Morgan is his harmony singer. She is also a great Nashville songwriter who has written several popular songs performed by others. Also Chris is a song writer who's songs have been hits for others. The all woman flyover was the Navy doing a tribute to 70 years of female aviators in the US Navy. The lady in Tennessee Whiskey is Chris's wife so I would hope she enjoyed singing with him lol. That concert was in Austin Texas I believe
