I know chess has slid in the direction of speed chess these days, but I love the 14-game long time-period games. It's cool to see both players testing the other's preparation in various lines.
Me too. I really appreciate having the time to really think through a position. In speed formats GMs often blitz through 15 moves of theory and I have no idea what happened.

It's really nice having someone explain the depth of the preparation and mindgames in such a high stakes game. It's also feels weirdly human to see this players play this insane levels of chess just to commit like 2 inaccuracies and cost them the game.
i tuned into the stream of that game to witness a furious battle of 2 empty chairs. truly fascinating how 2 pieces of furniture were able to aquire gm status before levy.
Today's stare is more pensive, more thoughtful than usual and the look of a true philosopher who knows the bounds of his own mind in and off the chess board. 8/10 stare.
He's trying to figure out how to get Frank to listen to anything he says.

Ding probably avoided the Nimzo because he was worried about Nepo's preparation. That might be a good practical decision.

I'm not the first person to say "wow, you're fast with these." I woke up and tuned in to the twitch stream and saw Ding and Nepo shaking hands. There was still a lot of good commentary, but it's neat to be able to catch up so quickly.

I already regret not watching Anish's live commentary for this game
He was convinced that Ian made a mistake playing the game between Ding and himself. Because as Levy said Ding had no problems during that other game. He thought that the line wasn't that critical and that Nepo had better options. After that all three comentators told storys of GMs like Anand mixing up preperation and blundering in the opening. It was pretty funny.
