If they had animated the whole movie instead of just the opening and a few segments, it would have been much better. They could even have revamped the series to have animation and voices like these and it would have been really good. Idk if you realize this, but fat Albert is effectively supposed to be based on a “slum” area in the city, where public funding is low, people are poor, and crime is rife. In the 60s and 70s black kids regularly hung out in places like junkyards because they had nothing better to do till dinner time and would often be run off for “vagrancy” and “loitering” if they tried to hang out in the nice areas of town. Many episodes center on fat Albert’s gang dealing with crimes and uncivil behavior common to slums, such as sexual harassment, parental abuse, vandalism, thievery, brawling, poor hygiene, and in one episode murder. They did a good job at dressing the “slum” up as a respectable, but underfunded community to get past the censors, but it was supposed to be hinting at the vulgar reality kids were dealing with.
I think his hair was already revealed years before the movie adaptation was thought of yet. Like, when "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" (the show this movie is based on) was still a TV show.
The movie's animated part is probably better than the show's animation edit: 3 years later, i realized what the difference between tv budget and movie budget is.
The original fat albert’s animation was very limited and the style was kinda strange due to the fact that all of the people of color were depicted in the show to be sort of off looking, more than most cartoons at least. The style used in this movie is beautiful and it’s so expressive too. Honestly, I don’t think this show is ever coming back due to obvious circumstances, but the animation in this movie was brilliant and it’s a fine conclusion.
I love how much more expressive they made each of the characters in the animation, we were seriously robbed of a good reboot of the series. It could have been really funny and enjoyable while still updating the mature dilemma's the original tried to tackle.

While its nice to give Russell a subplot, I found this whole thing pointless. I think Russell's story really should have been about him convincing Danielle to stay on the show and give Albert another chance. It would have been very heartfelt and give Russell some mature and admirable moments.
I never realized they made original animation. I'm conflicted. The animation is fantastic and they could make a whole new series in this style, but I imagined them doing these scenes with the original animations.
