      @@HowToGYST. We all are learning as we go and adjusting to life is the frog task, this idea works for me, I make a note the night before what my task is for the next day, and yet things come up and it might not happen but never bothers me if I do not get it done now that I have an energy limiting illness. ( ME/CFS).

  • @misswittank9224

    The one bit of decluttering advice I have heard on RUclips but would caveat is "you can get rid of it, you have your memories". When you get to perimenopause or go through a period of poor mental health, sometimes you can't remember what you did earlier that day! So I will take a quick photo before decluttering some items as that will usually be sufficient to prompt the memory of the event or person it related to.

    • @meisjeViv
      @meisjeViv 10 месяцев назад +3

      This has struck me as off as well! How good are these people's memories?! Of course there's types of reminders like photos that take less room, but I am not going to remember most things without some sort of memory prompt... And I'm not even 35 yet. When decluttering mementos it comes with acceptance that I'll likely forget the event it is connected to. Usually I don't mind forgetting it and then I can let go. But the 'your memories exist in your mind, not in your stuff' is just not true, not that black and white.

      @wannaduckfin 10 месяцев назад +3

      I never did it bc I know I have to have clear surfaces to work well. So I do some tidying first. Then I am ready to declutter. I've decluttered my whole house this way. I get smallish piles and get them to Salvation Army right away. That is motivating!

    • @meisjeViv
      @meisjeViv 10 месяцев назад +3

      Then again, for me it was perfectly timed, I had a ton of time and energy to spare when I got my hands on her book and the 'everything all at once' worked wonderfully for me then. I have since gotten other things to occupy my life :p so now I break the categories up in much smaller categories and fit the different strategies to my current lifestyle. I still love the strategy of collecting all like items together (just for most people at most moments it is way more feasible to do 'pens' and then 'watercolors', 'socks', 't-shirts' instead of 'all stationary, tools and miscellaneous bits and bobs' and 'all clothes including outdoor apparel' as one big ass category 😬)

    I agree with keeping the wavering thing, because for me, if I keep something I'm not sure about, I'll end up getting sick of it finally and out it goes. But I have to be ready or it gives me a lot of anxiety.

    • @meisjeViv
      @meisjeViv 10 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed, it's much easier to declutter something later that you labelled 'maybe' before. I actually quite like combining the boxing it up idea with the maybes, put my not-sures out of the way but not out of my life yet. Then I can revisit the box later with the idea that I'll probably not want anything from it anymore, but that's all right if I change my mind to 'keep' on some of the items :)

    “Eat a live frog every morning, and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” This quote is usually attributed to Mark Twain, though actually spoken by the French author Nicolas Chamfort (1741-1794). It really means (to me) that get the worst done first, not necessarily "in the morning", but rather the first thing when you are ready to get to work whatever time that might be, if you are applying it to work productivity. However, I think it also means if something bad happens to you, then the rest of the day can only get better.

      Some of us need to ease ourselves in. 😉

    • @Shetooktothewoods
      @Shetooktothewoods 10 месяцев назад +2

      That was my thought. “Eat the frog” is to do with getting the most detestable thing out of the way so you don’t end up doing all the other things while it slides off the day’s agenda. Still a hideous way to begin a day, though.

  • @olivemaycards
    @olivemaycards 10 месяцев назад +2

    I know some people who will quit something the moment they “break the chain” - if they miss one day of a 365 project they’re done. You have to know yourself. I do better if I do something every day than trying to do it once a week. A variant of “eating the frog” is to realize that the dreaded task will cause you dread and distress every time you face it, so doing it right now will get the dread over and done with. Doesn’t have to be in the morning. If I need to make a difficult phone call it helps to just start dialing right now before I can think about how dread-full it will be.

  • @jennyjenkins877

      ME/CFS here, with the same defrosting period. Honestly, there are days when I choose between eating and doing the dishes because I only have the energy for one. I won’t be eating the proverbial 🐸 unless it’s a relatively energetic day.

    • @Nanatracie
      @Nanatracie 10 месяцев назад

      @@Shetooktothewoods sounds like your energy level is worse than mine so must be so hard for you. I can normally function for about 3 to 4 hours a day but come 1 in afternoon my day is done and can be showered and back in bed by 3ish. I've learnt that I have to have a somewhat easy meal at lunch time as just can't do it later then I'd just snack on junk. Decluttering my whole home has been a godsend 😊
