Whilst these were incredible men, and I don't want to take anything away from them; let's put the numbers into perspective, the turnover was huge. 20 planes would last until 4pm in the afternoon. the USA contribution was much less than one half of a days worth of pilots, in a battle which lasted for months.

@@kazeveready4915 2 years and 4 months to be more accurate.Going into Europe in 1940 nearly lost us the war, thankfully the Germans failed to capitalise on the opportunity. This video is about American volunteers who served in the Battle of Britain, several of whom were killed in action. By the time the USA entered the war, 6.700 Americans had volunteered to serve in the RCAF or RAF and 3 "Eagle" Squadrons were eventually formed in the UK - they eventually transferred to the USAAF in 1942. I've never heard or seen any claim the we were spared invasion due to US efforts.

As the saying goes - the Americans might have been neutral, but they were neutral on our side. As for them not joining in directly for another two years, it's likely the war would have gone on for more than two years after 1945 if they had not joined in, and with a somewhat different outcome too. Thanks to the American volunteers, and to all the pilots of all the other countries who flew with us. You're a good bunch.
