This car is so different to the Elantra sedan because it's the European designed Hyundai i30, I think it will probably be the most competitive product in the class just based on that fact.
Crack Knuckles I really like the front, but the rear will take getting used to. I much prefer the sleek sloped roofline of the current generation GT. But this interior looks so much more upscale.
I'm 100% sold on both Elantra sports, sedan & hatch! the lease on my '15 Lancer SE is up next summer and I'm probably going to go with the hatch if it's cheaper than sedan. it better come with that Infiniti sound system including the sub and that siiick exhaust!!!!!
I passed on a 2015 Elantra GT 2 years ago. I really liked the layout, the fact that it was a manual, and the room inside. The problem was power. Glad to see they have fixed it with the turbo. This should do great! Kinda wish I had waited now...
Nice first look, Sofyan! I really love the new exterior styling of this vehicle! I would have really wished Hyundai used a rear design reminiscent of the current generation Elantra sedan, since in my eyes the sedan has one of the nicest rear ends in its class. The interior also looks fairly attractive, but I will definitely have to get used to that floating infotainment system design. Keep up the great work, Sofyan! I cannot wait until I can review this vehicle! Also, I cannot wait until you get your hands on one of these vehicles as a test car! ;-) -DriveAndBeDriven "The Quest To Record The Best!"
Thanks for the video. I noticed an inaccuracy at 0:30 you mentioned this car is based on the new 2018 Elantra. I was under the impression that it was based on a totally different platform, just with the Elantra GT badge in the states. (i30 elsewhere) At 2:28 you mentioned that Hyundai could have slapped the same interior from the Elantra but they revamped it when in fact they just are just selling an i30 in the states. Sorry to be a stickler. Looking forward to a driving review of that 1.6L turbo model. I'm a 2010 Elantra touring owner (which I learned is also an i30)
Thank you for clarifying that! Our mistake, while we have heard of the i30, we forgot that they technically have different chassis codes. Hyundai did tell us the two cars share a few things, mainly the engine, transmission, and suspension components, but it is its own vehicle at the same time. We'll be sure to clarify that in our full review!
I'm looking at this, civic hatch, Golf or mazda3 as my next car. The Elantra seems to one up all of them in terms of looks, refinement, power, space and the luxurious feeling
Nice! Love your videos and reviews. If the Kia Stinger is at the show could you show more of it. Like maybe trunk and backseat room. And any info on it. Thanks!
I was all set to buy an Elantra Sport sedan, but then they went and revealed this thing. Though as I look it over, I still like some of the Sedan's features better. I prefer the flat bottom steering wheel and the single dual exit muffler. The wheels look better too. Though the GT is tempting with the cargo room and that nice pano sunroof. Decisions, decisions...
I'd love to see the D-shaped steering wheel in the GT as they have it in the Elantra Sport. I'm serious though...Hyundai has freaking UP'd their damn game! I was looking at getting the Elantra Sport but I think the GT Sport, with that Pano roof, is now my first choice!
civic boys getting envious now. Anyway, sure, the new civic turbo has increased hp to 205ps but they had the tune and increase the boost by a lot considering the previous one was already at 18psi. This elantra turbo is still very much safe at a much lower psi and can still be tuned and have it's psi boosted and by the time hyundai does that it will outpower the "tuned" civic turbo.
Justin Kelly it will be.... but I want it to come out sooner rather than later.... the engine is already out (same V6 TT in the KIA Stinger).... just waiting
Sanj Hyundai is good at using the same engine for everything lol. The 1.6T is in 6+ models between Hyundai and Kia and the 3.3T is in 3+ right now but it is rumored to be in the G70 and I am sure coupe etc.
You can make it look as good as you want, at the end of the day, its still a hyundai. See how big and centered they make that hazard light button? Its because youll be using it a lot.
Hi, Soyfan. Like ur reviews along with AoA reviews. U guys are best reviewers. Any guess on ETA for full review of Elantra GT Sport? Seems like would be a cheap fun beater car for doing chores and groceries in relative comfort.
adayexpired seems like we will get the full review soon, he posted photos of it on his Instagram a couple weeks ago, but, he got the 7DCT, not the manual.
Gt base engine is 162 2.0liter (carryover) and has optional 201hp 1.6turbo GTsport version . Sedan has 2.0 litre aktinson engine 148hp and a sport version with same 201hp 1.6turbo. hope that helps :)
I'm a bit apprehensive with this car having Hyundai's dry dual clutch transmission. It seems like it has had the same failures with the transmission control module (TCM) as Ford's PowerShift has had. When the TCM failed in my 2012 Ford Focus, the shift forks kept cycling to engage different synchronizer rings, the transmission wouldn't engage reverse, and then the car stalled in gear. Thankfully the failure was when I was filling up for fuel at Costco. There is actually a class action lawsuit against Hyundai now, and the company was forced to recall the Tucson for the TCM issues. www.carcomplaints.com/news/2016/hyundai-dual-clutch-transmission-dct-lawsuit.shtml
I think the red stitching is nice. I wish the red vents were optional though. Still better than the KIA Forte 5 SX with the ORANGE leather panels (YUCK!). It's essentially a restyled Forte5 SX with an independent rear. Hope the suspension and handling has been retuned. They have very stiff competition in a market that already doesn't sell well (thanks to the SUV / crossover boom). The price is going to be the deciding factor in its success. Even in the sport trim it's a warm hatch at best like a Mazda 3 2.5 GT. Not quite Ford Focus ST, VW GTI territory. And you can get those more powerful cars in base trims in the LOW $20ks USD after incentives. BTW The VW GTI technically has an available "panoramic" sunroof but not really. It's much smaller.
release it right now so honda will feel their civic hatchback has a competition and they will lower the price....i like the body style of this hyundai but to be safe im more inclined in getting the civic for the honda reliability
Hmm. I get that's it's supposed to be somewhat sporty, but is it really that necessary if it raises the cost? Does it not raise the cost that much when compared to a regular auto or cvt?
It gets better fuel economy compared to a regular auto and its more sporty than a CVT, that's why Ford and VW use it in many of their cars, now Hyundai/Kia are getting to use them in their turbocharged cars. Only real downside is the repair cost but that's what the warranty is for.
OMG pano roof!!!! But that infotainment screen looks hideous... looks like it blocks part of the vents... why can't there be a perfect hatch... civic engine reliability and safety features, Mazda3 handling and design, plus elantra GT space and pano roof, and I'll be happy as a clam
I know my opinion doesn't matter I like the entire car accept the display inside, I feel like knobs around takes the entire essence of a floating display, I feel like Mazda made there's look better
Hyundai should be less expensive to repair and has better reliability for the long term than VW that is for sure.. Will be tough call against the Civic Hatchback though.
Can't wait till to you do an actully full review on this car. They should of kept the original name badge "i30" it has meaning to it, it truly identifies the car . The whole GT thing is played out and lame hahaha
Kia and Hyundai are starting to have the worst screen placement ever. Almost ruins the whole design. The exterior is fugly. I really want to like this, but I like the Cruze, 3, and Corolla hatchbacks more in the design department. The power sounds decent though.

3:17 when you know Hyundai isn't playing around....
That pano roof is nice, don't know why no other competitors offer it...
Good to see Hyundai's styling maturing a bit. This looks really good
I really like the front end ...
AntsAfan301 - Has a Lexus look as well.
Jrion were you on one of those Chevy commercials?
YES, I've been waiting for this! The 1.6L turbo engine in the GT is perfect. Might have to consider upgrading from my '14 GT.
Ezero8 exactly what I wanted. The veloster turbo engine in my car lol i own a 14 GT as well.
Crack Knuckles I really like the front, but the rear will take getting used to. I much prefer the sleek sloped roofline of the current generation GT. But this interior looks so much more upscale.
Ezero8 it needs the 2.0 t
My favorite car company. They actually know how to build good looking cars that have a good price-performance ratio.
I drive the 2016 GT , great car , reliable , well equipped and powerful . Hyundai has been improving since 2004 .
I passed on a 2015 Elantra GT 2 years ago. I really liked the layout, the fact that it was a manual, and the room inside. The problem was power. Glad to see they have fixed it with the turbo. This should do great! Kinda wish I had waited now...
Looks really nice and performance oriented.. Can't wait until I test drive one! Thank you for your video!
i wish they have made the cabin nicer like the mazda 3.
The camera guy never highlights what you're saying as you say it...
haha ikr, feels like he was half asleep!
thought I was the only one...theres like a 5 sec lag
Nice car I'm excited about more hatchbacks in the US!
Very nice. Would buy that if I didn't have 10 kids.
Pull out game weak bruh
I love that we get the i30 over here. It's one of their nicest vehicles. I wish the rear fogs and cornering lamps came with it though.
That front end is Beautiful. Hyundais are really getting sexier.
Nice first look, Sofyan! I really love the new exterior styling of this vehicle! Redline Reviews please do the full review on this...its almost 2018 gosh
love the front end and the front end

No prob. Looking forward to the review. Thanks for the information re: engine/trans and suspension.
+Rob: What 2.0 turbo model?
oops. had that wrong, meant 1.6L turbo. made the edit. thanks for catching it.
Actually, I was hoping you were right and I was the mistaken one :)
I'm looking at this, civic hatch, Golf or mazda3 as my next car. The Elantra seems to one up all of them in terms of looks, refinement, power, space and the luxurious feeling
Big points for the Pano roof.
Can you please do a review on the 2017 Hyundai Elantra sport.
Nice! Love your videos and reviews. If the Kia Stinger is at the show could you show more of it. Like maybe trunk and backseat room. And any info on it. Thanks!
It needed an upgraded stereo with sub-woofer. I have a 17 GT. I also would like a camera for lane changes.
Wish they went with the flat bottom steering wheel. It just makes the car seem more sportier. I'm a big hatchback fan so I'm all for this!
wow... the old elantra GT was such an eye sore... but this is something i would highly consider as a young buyer!!!
finally something i want to own from hyundai
dang, that looks better than my speed 3!
Would love to see you actually do a review of this in manual form.
In Australia this is called the i30 sr.
Finally been waiting for a cheaper GTI alternative ...something with 200+hp and a dual clutch, wish they would offer the Civic Si with a Dct also
I'd love to see the D-shaped steering wheel in the GT as they have it in the Elantra Sport.
Wow front and end nice!
finally a new look
Looks great, but I wonder if it will be reliable
this car looks great.
Nice! Are you going to review the elantra sport??
Yes! Just waiting for Hyundai to send us one. Hopefully soon! :)
Great! Haha thanks, keep up the great work :)
It would be awesome if you guys did a review of BOTH the Elantra AND GT Sports at the same time!!! Is that something you guys can do?!?!?!
Any idea when the newest edition to the genesis coupe will be coming to market?
Will be under the Genesis brand most likely.
Hmm, finally something that might compete with the GTI DSG. I'm interested.
You can make it look as good as you want, at the end of the day, its still a hyundai. See how big and centered they make that hazard light button? Its because youll be using it a lot.
any news about new hyundai veloster at the auto show?
I love the front, but the back isn't my #1 for the class. Guess I'm gonna go for the civic hatch
Does the SPORT have the multi-link rear suspension?
I have a 2012 Elantra Touring SE. I think it's better than the GT because it has way more cargo room , head room, better visibliity, etc.
Came here after your Elantra Sport video. makes no sense to me why they don't have a flat bottomed steering wheel for this too...
Im actually considering this car over GTI.. well done Hyundai..
How much can we expect this thing to cost? Around $20,000?
Are you going to review the 2017 Mazda 3 hatchback grand sport manual transmission?
We just reviewed that same specification but in a sedan body style. The video went live about 2 days ago :)
looks great
Is it going to come with an lsd in the front end?
Hi, Soyfan. Like ur reviews along with AoA reviews. U guys are best reviewers. Any guess on ETA for full review of Elantra GT Sport?

Interesting design
Hi..! Do you know if the Elantra Type N Hatch came to US..? Thanks
BoN Luis hopefully for 2019 or 2020 model
If it offered a diesel in the states, it could have Golf label on the liftgate because this looks a lot like that vehicle.
Is this gonna beat the Civic hatch?
Elantra Sport anytime soon bud?
I can't wait!!!!!
does this guy's lawnmower run on ginger ale?
is the 162 hp for the gt only? or is the sedan getting that bump in power?
Gt base engine is 162 2.0liter (carryover) and has optional 201hp 1.6turbo GTsport version . Sedan has 2.0 litre aktinson engine 148hp and a sport version with same 201hp 1.6turbo. hope that helps :)

I like the exterior look. But as far as interior goes, Mazda 3 is definitely one of the best.
a little bit shorter and might trade in my Veloster.
I think the red stitching is nice. I wish the red vents were optional though. Still better than the KIA Forte 5 SX with the ORANGE leather panels (YUCK!). It's essentially a restyled Forte5 SX with an independent rear. Hope the suspension and handling has been retuned.

I really don't like it compared to the old one, the old one was way sportier and way better looking than the new one.
The looks are better on the old one however almost every aspect of this one is better in terms of any performance. I have a mildly modded 2013 :)
Thought I was looking at a Mazda3 from the thumbnail.
In other parts of the world it is called the i30
No flat bottom alcanterra wheel? WTF?
At first glance, thought it was a Mazda 3 hatch
Independent rear?
Yes, the Sport trim will have an IRS
release it right now so honda will feel their civic hatchback has a competition and they will lower the price....i like the body style of this hyundai but to be safe im more inclined in getting the civic for the honda reliability
Did he say dual clutch?! Isn't this thing front wheel drive?
Yes? That's not uncommon at all lol
Yummy Hershey There are quite a few front wheel drive cars with dual clutch transmissions
Hmm. I get that's it's supposed to be somewhat sporty, but is it really that necessary if it raises the cost? Does it not raise the cost that much when compared to a regular auto or cvt?
makes it more sporty and makes it more fuel efficient since they do not want to use CVT's. a plus in my books !

Great!!!
I have the 2016 elantra gt very good car and it drive very well stop putting down hyundai they have come a long way since I had my 2006 elantra
I know my opinion doesn't matter I like the entire car accept the display inside, I feel like knobs around takes the entire essence of a floating display, I feel like Mazda made there's look better
looks like the rs7 grille
so every car company is doing that wide tiger nose
Looks really nice but this seems very similar to an Audi A3 which you can get used for way cheaper and more powerful engine.
But wich do u think will be more reliable and cheaper to repair……..
Yo Hyundai lowkey stole the mazda 3 design.
Shelvin. P I don't see the resemblance. looks like a hyundai to me.
and interior
Hyundai should be less expensive to repair and has better reliability for the long term than VW that is for sure.. Will be tough call against the Civic Hatchback though.
Congrats Hyundai... all your sedans and hatches can easily be lost in a Chick-Fil-la parking lot...
Why do Hyundai keep putting crappy cheap looking wipers on US spec cars? European ones get nice smooth and modern looking wipers...
This is very Mazda-esque.
What a weird looking interior. I still think the Mazda 3 has the classiest interior in the class.
Typical kdm knocking off design cues.
Basically a focus's headlamps, with a mazda3 rear end and overall shape.
1st Person!!!!!
Pinkpolo85 1st Reply!!!
tbh imo the Elantra sport sedan looks better...
Can't wait till to you do an actully full review on this car. They should of kept the original name badge "i30" it has meaning to it, it truly identifies the car . The whole GT thing is played out and lame hahaha
front looks great but that interior is hideous!
Kia and Hyundai are starting to have the worst screen placement ever. Almost ruins the whole design. The exterior is fugly. I really want to like this, but I like the Cruze, 3, and Corolla hatchbacks more in the design department. The power sounds decent though.
+Joshua R
Looks are subjective. I like plain classic design as opposed to overboard design like Cruze, 3 and Corolla. I prefer classic and clean design hence, big fan of Sonata clean interior design and VW interior design.
Again, the looks are subjective meaning each to own.
Honda Type R
yark the Back of the car is yuck
I'd pass and take a Mazda3 hatch. Horse reliability comparing to Kia and Hyundai.
Hyundai/Kia has been rated top quality in build quality last year according to the Consumer Report. Plus, you get better NVH meaning no noise of road and wind. Mazda 3 is notorious for road and wind noises, not to mention poor infotainment, and lack of Android Auto and CarPlay.

The only positive about Mazda is the looks, even then they will be faded very quickly, and hardly practical for daily driving either.
you did the impossible, used reliability and hyundai in the same sentence. Clever use of Mazda to pull that off.
Malik Brother Consumer Report is just a paid advertiser. They add fancy titles to false facts. If they were built good last year, doesn't mean they will be strong in 5 years because all those reports are NEW. Kia/Hyundai were never above average reliability ratings unlike Toyota/Honda/Mazda. But less of those stories with a Toyota/Mazda.
Also, what kind of an idiot would look at CarPlay over reliable long lasting engines/transmissions???
I've driven the new Hyundais at work. They build them better. Nothing rattles.
Sooroosh Karomatullo it sounds like you purchased your car used. A little much to blame the manufacture when you don't know what the previous owners did to it. Hell it could have been, and probably was a rental car after it was new.
Base is $17,500
Looks more "Kia" than "Hyundai." The interior is a Mazda knock off, which is a BMW knock off... It also is lacking the new "superstructure" that they spent a ton of money advertising for on the sedan. Hyundai just went with a cheaper Euro spec platform. The sedan is the better looking vehicle in my mind.
Love it minus the red stitching and accents...
