      In japan this is the most truck(key truck) popular used ! I have Daihatsu hijet 2014 buying direct from japan and ship to turks and Caicos! This one have a power stering/ air conditioning . I buying 4 years ago and the regulation of japan is nothing to compare usa and canada. Every 2 years the japan security transportation need to
      have full inspection et fixeveeverything form bumper to bumper , in my case the kei truck arrive in new condition at 60 k miles . And the only things a need to do is change the oil motor with synthétique one that s it
      And i use everyday and put some 20$ every 3-4 weeks .. at the end of the day ! I m not in accordance with the guy he post the fist video on youtube

I obey the speed limit, which is 100 km/h, but I can't afford to go lower than that, everyone else is so aggressive it would get very dangerous. Even if they're not allowed for public road use, they've been imported for private use on farms and such even before they're 25 years old. They typically have to be modified to not be able to exceed 25MPH and of course they don't get tags for normal road use. I recommend getting one with 4WD, power takeoffs, and/or a dump bed if you're going the ag route. Definitely skip the automatics, unless you know you're getting a conventional type (CVTs will not hold up to heavy off-road use for long).

    Pallet of blocks its done. Youll have to sup it up with better suspension and a bigger engine in order to actually tow more weight enough to actually do anything with lol. You use this to carry some water here and there maybe a few bales of hey or something other things that dont weight alot. In order to do anything bigger you'll just have to use your normal giant truck might as well because this doesn't have electric motor some may uave electric but these are usually just a tiny gas engine like a 3 cylinder. They're a novelty! A funny one 😂

Most of those are built more like a micro SUV on the inside, so they tend to have the bonus features in them too. it's significantly easier to register a van body too, as they can't be beeped by the laws in states like PA that ban micro*trucks*.

    All those reasons are exactly why they're perfect for where I live. Example: the speed limit is 45km/hr (28mph not kidding), most of these trucks are right hand drive so that's us. Being the smallest(and isolated)island nation in the world means we have probably the most expensive shipping freight charges in the world. So the smaller the car(and engine)the better, fuel economy, cheaper tyres, parts etc.

      Here’s the thing. I don’t have a preference for manuals. Matter of fact, I’ve only been driving manual for a little over a year. None of my daily drivers are manual. These are just *so hard* to come by with automatics. They were not optioned frequently. That’s why you hardly see them. They’re rare.

    Dont buy one from a guy like this. These go for $400-1000 in Japan and you can fly there, buy one, arrange shipping and fly back for less than these guys sell them for. I had one in Japan for $600, and didn't bring it back because of US restrictions. Your state will usually allow you to register but then revoke the registration when they find out it's a kei truck. These have to be registered as an "underspeed vehicle", restricted to 35MPH and no highway or state road use.

    The number one reason not to buy a kei anything, is that you are totally inexperienced, at working on mechanical devices and cars. There are very few mechanics who know how to work on them, and they are strange little beasts with complex vacuum driven emmissions systems. If you don’t know how to gap a spark plug, or check your timing, stay away. Because you will need to work on it yourself. And they are not simple to figure out.

    • @reaperreaper5098
      @reaperreaper5098 10 месяцев назад

      10 grand is the upper end of a Kei, whereas a new Maverick (one of, if not the cheapest trucks currently by a large margin) has an MSRP starting at 22.5K.
      Assuming you're lucky enough to find a Mav near MSRP, you're spending over double. But that's compared to the upper end of the Kei market. Many go for 7-8K, so 3 times the price of a Kei. Entry level Keis go for around 3K, so one could buy 7 kei trucks and still have enough left over for a nice dinner for what Ford thinks their not so mini truck is worth.

    • @LuwiigiMaster
      @LuwiigiMaster 10 месяцев назад

      @@reaperreaper5098 counterpoint - you get hit by one of these millions of lunatics behind the wheel of a suburban or super duty. Assuming you survive the accident, insurance will laugh at your insurance claim because you have a 30 year old kei car. If they crash into your Maverick, you will get compensation to have it repaired, not to mention Ford still makes these, so even if the damage is unfixable, they can always get you a new one.

    • @reaperreaper5098
      @reaperreaper5098 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@LuwiigiMaster You get hit in anything larger than the Maverick, your odds aren't great either.
      Your insurance claim argument also doesn't really hold up great. First, it's their job to try to pay you as little as possible, age is irrelevant. Second, insurers base pay out on value of the car/truck. After a few short years, a new car's value drops like a rock. The value of a Kei doesn't really fall, since they're already comparatively cheap. It's far more feasible to not got royally screwed on insurance with an old Kei than it is a new car. Plus, while some parts are not easy to source (a problem you'll face with most new vehicles, btw), the the common failure points have a strong aftermarket. It's also significantly easier to work on a Kei than a new vehicle.
      Your counterpoint only works in a perfect world. In reality, the "pros" of a new vehicle from an accident or insurance perspective don't really hold up that well.
      Also, I only picked the Maverick as the new truck representative because it's cheap compared to everything else. It's not overly capable, beating out the typical Kei in top speed, acceleration, and towing capacity (neither are good options for towing). Keis however, can hit payload capacities of 1800-1900lbs, as opposed to the Maverick's 1500. The Maverick's best MPG rating is 30, a Kei in its stock config will be somewhere in the 30-45 range when maintained.
      This is ignoring that your initial argument of price was just flat out wrong. A Kei is substancially cheaper than even the cheapest new truck, and if you're actually concerned about accidents (or the other negatives listed in the short), there's another (better) alternative to a Kei: buy an older truck that fits your needs.
