Received mine a day ago. The Chrono version. Here is my owners review.... The sunburst blue is stunning it changes from dark blue navy to spots of black to a bright steel blue. All hands line up well. The large second hand sweeps similar to a mechanical chrono, as this is a mecha-quartz. A Seiko VK63 ? The watch is rated for 50 meters water resistance. That is marked in very small print at the bottom of the dial. Little glare despite the flat crystal so very legible. The lume is only mediocre and the hands have less coats than the markers. The sub dials are seconds at the 6' O clock , 24 hour time at the three O'clock (not a second time zone) and a Chono stop watch 1 hour totalizer at the 9' O clock. The sweep second hand is a true flyback. The chrono pushers are a positive click , the top is start stop the bottom a reset. I haven't tried splits. The Crown is awesome and in a well detailed onion style Flieger type. The triangle shaped 12 O"clock marker is also a Flieger theme. This is a WWII Flieger Type A Pilots watch style. The small plane at the bottom of the dial is a 4 engine Boeing 707, which we all now the connection of it to Pan Am. They need it on the non Chrono version as well. The Pan Am logo on the case back is very crisp and well done. The crystal appears to have no AR coating. Now to the hmmmm issues. First it appears to wear a bit large even with curved down lugs, it is 42mm though. The strap is also obviously a Flieger Style including the Pan Am logo applied faux rivets.
Here is the negative for me at least.
The strap is not high quaility leather it appears to have a coating ? It tapers from 20mm at the lugs down to 16mm and appears dainty and undersized for the head of the watch. It is STIFF AS A BOARD ! It's a tad uncomfortable. The backside of the strap has the Pan Am logo on one side and written out on the other including "Worlds Most Experienced Airline" in very small font.
Its worth preserving this strap ! So I purchased a 2 piece nylon Nato strap on Amazon in "Steel Blue" . The dial is not a true Navy Blue or PanAm Blue is a striking sunburst of its own color . They did not include quick release spring bars on the Timex strap, but I think because it's very thick and rigid. The box is Pan Am Logo'd and has art work in a 50's 60's world travelers them , its awesome. Keep it ! The pillow is also a nice soft velour .
I recommend the Chrono version for a few reasons , first it a chrono and works , the sub dials are recessed and add a cool 3d dimension particularly by contrasting at times with the sunburst effect. The logo fits perfectly in the six O'Clock sub register dial and dosen't appear cheap and just applied. And the little B 707 ! Thats very cool. But don't worry it blends in with the minute track so its not cartoonish and in your face or in the way. Its there if you study the dial. Oh The sweep second hand has a arrow tip similar to other Timex Explorers.
The watch dial is not overly cluttered and its easy to read the time at a glance as well as the sub dials and small date only window at 4 O"Clock.
It looks like Timex on their USA web site sold out in the first day , so I was lucky to get mine. I keep looking at this watch on my wrist, not because of what it is technically with complications
but because this dial is " alive" with a kaleidoscope of color and 3D effects !!! If they restock this is a MUST buy , either version. It is a true aviation themed and Pan Am geeks grail watch.

I received mine today They are in stock still trying to figure out how to work the Chronograph. The instructions are a bit difficult to follow. It's a nice watch, as others have said. The leather is a bit tough and has to be broken in. I have a small wrist, so it is a tad large and may take to getting used to. The sweep secondhand stops every four hours I thought I kept turning it off.

Hey Chris, I really like this watch. I am a Aviation Geek. I work for Airlines (Baggage) "Watch Geeks get the planes out on time." There was a TV Show about ten years ago "PanAm". At the time they produced "Swag" Bags. etc. with the logo. I meant to get something but put it off. Now combining Watches with the PanAm logo I am not going to miss it this time.

I love this watch, it's on my purchase list. It's so nostalgic, I actually have flown on Pan Am several times before its demise. I'm a big fan of Timex and own several. Constantly get emails and offers from their website. I know some people classify Timex as a cheap watch company. However, in my opinion they make watches for the average consumer. They have many beautiful watches that don't break the bank. And their website has about 330 watches. I find them fun to wear and especially love their Snoopy and Peanut gallery watches. My everyday watch is a Timex, which keeps excellent time, which I've had for over a year without a clitch. To me Timex, takes me back to my childhood. I'm glad they're still around and making watches.

Both look great. Can this be a sign that Pan-American is putting it name , logo and brand out there prior to a comeback? Will this elevate Timex to another level? After all "it takes a locking and keeps on ticking". And, with all its ups and downs... it still ticking.

Interesting as Delta bought Pan Am in 1991. Not sure how Pan Am is collaborating with Timex when the company is no longer in business?

    • @dgrantreiter
      @dgrantreiter 2 года назад +1

Pan Am does not exist as a airline , but the logo and trademark is owned by 1 or a few people. So that must be who Timex had to work with do this collaboration. Hence thats what is meant by saying collaborating with "Pan Am" Its misleading but easier than saying collaborating with the current owners of the branding. Certainly better to sell the watches...

Already sold out and it doesn't look like they are making any more. Glad I got the Chrono. I guess ebay will be selling them for triple the price. I like them both, but I decided on the chrono because the time only didn't have the plane on the bottom. I love the nostalgia of Pan Am.

I really regret not buying a Brietling Pan Am chrono at a huge discount that had been stinking up my Ads window for years, this was pre pandemic, it lasted one month after they opened back up....by then it was practically vintage🤣🤣 This is kinda cool at £200 ish?

Great Video ! Is this the Pan Am Shuttle ? The Shuttle version should be in Titanium (Ti) with a NATO/EDC watchband ! Is this the NEW moon watch with a Velcro watchband ? Also include a Pan Am Shuttle reservation to the LEO CSS to make the connection to the moon ! tjl

@@georgegiesbrecht8224 I own the watch its on my wrist as I type this. the 3 Chrono sub dials are 3 'O'clock 24 time.
6 O'clock perpetual seconds and 9 O'clock 1 hour totalizer for the chrono stop watch in 1 minute increments
sorry you are in disbelief but I'm looking at it on my wrist. I also know how to read chronos complications and aviation watch slide rules, been using both types since 1973 My watch says its 11:57 am EST right now and the 24 hour sub dial reads 1 tic or just about to touch the 12 o' clock mark. At 1pm 1300H it will read the next mark for 13 . Each hour increment is not "numbered" only 24, 6, 12, 18. The other hours are just indicated and understood by relationship to the numbered markers.
